The only thing weirder than the Birthers are the anti-Birthers, who blame the Birthers for being conspiracy theorists yet actively feed the conspiracy by refusing to call for President Obama to release his birth certificate.
The state official in Hawaii who manages such things has reiterated that there is indeed an original birth certificate on file which would confirm President Obama's having been born in Hawaii and that she has seen it, but state law won't allow her to release it unless the president authorizes it.
So what's the problem here? Release the original and let's be done with this madness.
I realize there are some faith-based Obama supporters who believe without seeing, but the rest of us in the reality-based world are starting to get that strange feeling we got when Mark Sanford tried to convince us that he was away from his family on Father's Day, hiking the Appalachian trail in order to clear his head and write a book.
During the last campaign, John McCain faced similar questions and promptly responded by releasing his original birth certificate. That's how normal people with nothing to hide handle these things.

The nation's growing foreclosure rates may now be caused more by unemployment rather than subprime mortgages, according to a news release from realtytrac.com.
Realtytrac believes the shift is occurring for two reasons:
•Some states previously experiencing high foreclosure rates have seen those rates decrease.
•Some states with previously low levels of foreclosures are seeing an increase.

"As unemployment rates increase in different parts of the country," wrote James J. Saccacio, chief executive officer of Realtytrac in a news release, "it's very likely that we'll see similar patterns develop elsewhere."
There were 55 foreclosures in Jackson this May, according to realtytrac.com, a nearly 31 percent increase from May 2008 when 42 homes went into foreclosure.
"Cities in California, Florida, Nevada and Arizona continued to document the nation's highest foreclosure rates in the first half of 2009," the news release states.
But more than 20 percent of the cities showing above average foreclosure rates are in Oregon, Idaho, Utah, Arkansas, Illinois and South Carolina. Realtytrac officials believe that data means the majority of recent foreclosures are now related to growing unemployment instead of subprime or adjustable rate loans, the release states.

“On our last call we told you economic conditions for the second quarter would be slightly worse than the first and UPS performance would reflect those conditions. And that’s what happened. The results we announced today are a clear indication of the tough economic environment. As you’re aware, the rates of decline of some key economic indicators, like GDP and industrial production, have slowed. Other indicators, like manufacturing and service sector indices, are exhibiting signs of improvement. Most forecasters are saying that we may be at the bottom. Whether or not we’re at the bottom is not the main issue; what is important is how long we remain here and what type of recovery we will have. Remember, all these indicators are still well into negative territory, illustrating the challenges that lie ahead. We will continue to manage the Company under the assumption that the economy will stay at this level until definitive signs of improvement materialize.
That message was repeated several times in other comments. The company remains optimistic about the economy eventually improving but at this point in time doesn’t see any indication that’s happening. The company has reduced headcount and indicated that unless business picks up, further reductions are likely.
Their message was carefully worded, but I think pretty clear that they don’t see all that much improvement in the economy. Given that their business gives them as good a real time view of overall business activity as you’re likely to find, their observations would seem to indicate an economy that hasn’t recovered much at all yet.

While President Obama seeks peace and reconciliation—through “beer diplomacy”—with the Cambridge, Mass. police department in the wake of the Gates/Crowley affair, Vice President Biden today sought to ENGENDER GOOD WILL with law enforcement by doling out nearly $1 billion to pay for more cops.
“One of the places that has been hardest hit – most essential for the wellbeing of our citizens and their safety – has been law enforcement. We can’t achieve though the goal of a stronger community without stronger police forces,” Biden said before an audience that included law enforcement officers in Philadelphia.
As part of the $787 stimulus package pushed through Congress earlier this year, the federally run Community Oriented Policing Services program (COPS) will be able to help state and local law enforcement by giving them enough money to pay for nearly 4700 police officers over the next three years. The $1 billion it will cost is only a fraction of the $8.3 billion that was requested by those agencies, but Biden says the grants will go a long way in making communities safe.
“I think it is the right thing to do, I think it is the necessary thing to do and I think it is a moral obligation we have. We ask you to go out and defend us – you’re entitled to be equipped to be able to defend us,” he said.

The left hates an independent black person - a man like Clarence Thomas - probably as much or more than they hate the most inveterate white racist. A special place of contempt is reserved for a black person with the temerity to break the chains and leave the Democratic plantation to march off on his own, expressing views at variance with officially sanctioned African-American positions.
If you are a black person, there is ONLY ONE acceptable political view, and if you don't happen to share it, you are seen as a treacherous ingrate, one to be scorned with disgust and disdain for your shocking lack of appreciation for the generous largess bestowed to you by altruistic liberals, programs that you MUST acknowledge - through the forfeiture of your right to think for yourself - as having made your success possible.
This racial arrogance was in full display recently when California senator Barbara Boxer embarrassed herself by expressing absolute incredulity about how the climate-bill views of black Chamber of Commerce leader Harry Alford could possibly be in conflict with the official views of the NAACP.
Why were views of the NAACP relevant on a climate bill, of all things? Because Alford was a black man, and everyone knows that the views of all black men surely fall completely in line with the views of the NAACP - on everything, not just race. Everybody should understand that these are the rules, least of all a black man.
Dripping with condescension, the patronizing Boxer could not contain her disbelief that Alford could actually have views that conflicted with the designated black position as determined by the black establishment and by Democratic handlers. And for Alford, a black man, to challenge this beneficent liberal as he did, expressing his resentment and outrage - well, a slave refusing to clean the cotton gin could not have brought on more consternation.
Like Harry Alford, Clarence Thomas insisted on being treated as a liberated black man, a man free to break loose from the constraints imposed on him by patronizing liberalism. And the liberal establishment has never forgotten, nor forgiven.

In fact, the liberal media is STILL BASHING former President George W. Bush. Does DUBYAH ring a bell to any of you? Dallas County officials spar over 'black hole' comment

A special meeting about Dallas County traffic tickets turned tense and bizarre this afternoon.
County commissioners were discussing problems with the central collections office that is used to process traffic ticket payments and handle other paperwork normally done by the JP Courts.
Commissioner Kenneth Mayfield, who is white, said it seemed that central collections "has become a black hole" because paperwork reportedly has become lost in the office.
Commissioner John Wiley Price, who is black, interrupted him with a loud "Excuse me!" He then corrected his colleague, saying the office has become a "white hole."
That prompted Judge Thomas Jones, who is black, to demand an apology from Mayfield for his racially insensitive analogy.
Mayfield shot back that it was a figure of speech and a science term. A black hole, according to Webster's, is perhaps "the invisible remains of a collapsed star, with an intense gravitational field from which neither light nor matter can escape." [I can't believe anybody would be forced to explain this at all!!!]
Other county officials quickly interceded to break it up and get the meeting back on track. TV news cameras were rolling, after all.

AINSLEY EARHARDT, FOX NEWS CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): Before you buy into Barack Obama's universal health care plan, you might want to hear about a little known medical program key members of his administration started on Chicago's South Side. It's called the Urban Health Initiative, and it's been stirring up quite a controversy in the Windy City.
The program began in 2006 as the brainchild of first lady Michelle Obama when she was the VP at the University of Chicago Medical Center.
Its mission? To provide quality care to the area's poor and streamline the hospital's E.R. by directing non-emergency cases to nearby clinics. Despite numerous phone calls and e-mails to the medical center, we were denied interviews with any of the program's employees, but we did talk to a former student at the university's medical school who was familiar with the initiative.
EARHARDT: To get that investment, Michelle Obama, along with close friend and future Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett, hired — you guessed it — Obama spin doctor David Axelrod. He began to wage the initiative's PR Campaign. It worked. The good press surrounding the program helped the hospital win $23 million (government) grant. And even today, the initiative continues to be the beneficiary of government funding. It received $190,000 from the omnibus spending bill, which is on top of the more than $50 million in tax breaks the hospital is given every year.
But now, critics are asking whether redirecting patients helps the poor or the hospital's bottom line.
(on camera): The program certainly provides the university physicians here a convenient way to focus on their wealthy patients and pushed the uninsured out the door.
(voice-over): Last year, 12-year-old Dontae Adams was attacked by a pit bull. His motherimmediately took him to the university's emergency room. However, the staff was more interested in her insurance provider, she says, than they were in treating her soon. After learning she has Medicaid, Dontae was promptly redirected to a hospital an hour away.
The incident caught the attention of the American College of Emergency Physicians early in 2009. They issued a scathing press release, criticizing the Urban Health Initiative, saying, quote, "This is a dangerous precedent that could have catastrophic effects in poor neighborhoods across the country."
A few months later, a 78-year-old Medicare patient died in the waiting room after nurses failed to register him for almost four hours.
Unfortunately, these experiences are far from uncommon. The Chicago Tribune reported that 32 percent of patients redirected from the university's E.R. are poor or uninsured. And people we interviewed outside local clinics said the university would be the last emergency room they would visit.

Missing from President Barack Obama's health care program pitch last night was the likelihood that increased government control will also mean increased fraud, corruption and abuse of the system.
Last night, millions of Americans watched President Barack Obama sell his national health care plan on nationwide television. The reporters during the televised question and answer portion of Obama's performance attempted to appear unbiased, but their tone and demeanor was a marked difference from the attack approach they use on conservative politicians. And not one reporter asked about the potential for fraud and corruption in such a huge financial endeavor.
With the Obama Administration and Democrat leaders in both houses of the US Congress desperately pushing a major overhaul -- many say government takeover -- of US health care, a report obtained by the National Association of Chiefs of Police's Fraud & White Collar Crime Committee sheds light on the fraud and corruption already existing in government medical programs. And one can only imagine the amount of corruption that will occur with total government control of the medicine.
According to Steven Malanga of the Manhattan Institute, experts estimate that "abuses of Medicaid (alone) eat up at least 10 percent of the program’s total cost nationwide -- a waste of $30 billion a year. Unscrupulous doctors billing for over 24 hours per day of procedures, phony companies invoicing for phantom services, pharmacists filling prescriptions for dead patients, home health-care companies demanding payment for treating clients actually in the hospital -- on and on the rip-offs go."
The cheating is brazen because scam artists have figured out that years of lax oversight have made Medicaid easy plunder, according to Malanga.

Has GAO identified any problems with the current process for reviewing and paying Medicare claims that would make the program more vulnerable to fraudulent claims? Is there any reason the US federal agency which administers Medicare, Medicaid, and the Children's Health Insurance Program cannot include penalties in its Medicare Administrative Contractor contracts for paying improper or fraudulent claims that they are aware of?

I received an email from a reader yesterday that I would like to share with all of you. I like and totally agree with many of the points they brought up that desperately need to be addressed. I have also included my response below.

By the way, I have first hand knowledge of the schools limiting admittance as I scored in the 97th percentile on my MCAT, had a 4.0 GPA on my graduate courses and did not even get an interview. Don't judge the sea by looking at the surface, there are no waves just 5 feet below the surface.

This would also provide JOBS for medical personnel like yourself. The government could offer incentive to doctors for their service in these medical facilities such as for every year of service the government will FORGIVE a portion of your student loans. The same could apply for nurses.

Many Americans thought the Bush/Cheney administration pulled a HUGE HEIST through Haliburton getting the oil contract in Iraq as a result of the war. YET I have NOT ONCE heard one liberal democrat mention the GOLDMAN SACHS HEIST that was just played on us by BOTH SIDES!!! Their tentacles are wrapped around Washington politicians so tightly they've lost the blood flow to their HEARTS. Causing our politicians to lose any CONSCIENCE they had when they decided to SERVE the people. Now it's OBVIOUS they are SERVING the Banksters, mainly GOLDMAN SACHS!

If a person is employed they usually pay a portion of the monthly healthcare expense. My personal health insurance totalled $50 before taxes taken from my monthly salary. When I attended my 4 yr university, healthcare was included in my tuition fee. Therefore, I could visit the on-campus medical clinic for my regular check-ups! When I graduated I joined my Alumni and ELECTED to participate in our Alumni group health insurance coverage! I would also like to mention that I had major surgery over 10 years ago. I was covered by Met Life that my employer chose as our carrier. ALL of my medical expenses including my hospital stay were covered by my insurance plan and I ONLY had to pay $500 out of pocket!
Let's get real here, if President Obama genuinely CARED about the poor, sick and needy then he would FIX medicare and medicaid PERIOD end of story! With ALL of the TRILLIONS he has been BLOWING, he could have OPENED a medical center in EVERY URBAN and RURAL community across America! Just with the $7 BILLION + the $12 BILLION he lost in both the Chrysler and GM bankruptcy, he could have fully funded these Medical Centers for at least 10 YEARS or more! The MAIN REASON why the poor, sick and needy keep showing up in emergency rooms across America is because they are NOT able to get an appointment at any government funded medical facility in a reasonable time. If it's not the appointment, it is most definitely because there is NOT a government funded medical facility in their local urban or rural community! Mr. President FIX THIS FIRST and you can solve the problem IMMEDIATELY!
One of my reader's shared a story with me regarding their father. This is a story about our government run Medicaid program here in the United States that is available to ALL UN-INSURED CITIZENS. He said that his father was having trouble breathing that was quite painful. He had no personal insurance coverage and had to call the government run medicaid program to schedule an appointment to see a doctor. His father was scheduled to wait 6 MONTHS in PAIN to see a doctor. Then his father had to wait another 3 MONTHS for a diagnosis. His father was diagnosed with lung cancer. After receiving his disagnosis his father had to WAIT almost ONE YEAR to have his lung surgically removed. In the meantime, his father's cancer spread! This is a TRUE STORY! NO I DON'T WANT GOVERNMENT RUN HEALTHCARE PERIOD END OF STORY! and NEITHER SHOULD YOU! Mr. President you NEED to FIX Medicare and Medicaid FIRST!

I pay almost $200 per month for full coverage AUTO INSURANCE. Is the government going to INSIST on paying for our AUTO INSURANCE COVERAGE TOO because it is too expensive? If you can't afford auto insurance, then you should NOT drive a car PERIOD! That is why we have PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION. Suck up your pride and take the bus, the metro train, ride a bike or walk. Where is the LOGIC in our government wanting to play big brother in an individuals financial decisions?
Do NOT listen to President Obama and the other democrats INSISTING that our TAXES will NOT increase. This government is really sly in every which way imaginable! The middle class and lower class will feel the pain of TAXATION by way of a national sales tax, a cigarette tax, an alcohol tax, a gasoline tax, a utility tax, an internet tax, a cell phone tax, etc. etc. etc. TRUST ME when I tell you that these new crooks are taking us ALL for a BIG RIDE! Here in California, our auto registration has gone up $150 per year. We are paying a higher utility tax, a higher gasoline tax, and newly added HIGHER sales tax 9.75%. Just take a good look at your bills and receipts and this is only at the state level. Although, President Obama passed a bill that has increased the national tobacco tax and alcohol tax.
In the end, when you add up the taxes already taken from your paycheck PLUS all the new additional taxes I mentioned above our government will be taking 50%+ from our HARD EARNED MONEY! Don't you think we, ALL OF US, need to hold them accountable how they have been and are spending the taxes they are WASTING?!?! YES YES and YES! Eventually the taxes we must pay will be equal to slavery. Every dollar that YOU worked hard to earn will be TAKEN AWAY by our government in the form of TAXATION leaving you a pittance to get by! That's NOT FREEDOM... That is SLAVERY!
Listen I don't have a problem paying MY SHARE of the taxes that are supposed to go to pay for the social services we all benefit from. I've often wondered what the color of the sky is in Janeane Garofalo's world, and after hearing her interview on BBC Radio Saturday, I'm convinced this woman lives on another planet.
After all, in her view: "The media in the States is much more to the right. I mean there is almost no liberal outlet for news commentary or editorializing."
This coming from a woman who used to host a program on the far-left-leaning Air America Radio, and is a frequent guest on Keith Olbermann's "Countdown" as well as Bill Maher's "Real Time."
Such idiocy made it all the more fitting that after she finished her chat with the BBC's Clive Anderson, Garofalo ended up cutting her comedy routine at the Latitude festival short due to the audience's seeming disinterest in her views.

He gathered himself and went out from the city, where he sat under a tree and wept bitterly. Then he lifted his puzzled eyes to heaven while hunger was eating his inside, and he said, "Oh Lord, I went to the rich man and asked for employment, but he turned me away because of my shabbiness; I knocked at the school door, but was forbidden solace because I was empty- handed; I sought any occupation that would give me bread, but all to no avail. In desperation I asked alms, but They worshippers saw me and said "He is strong and lazy, and he should not beg."
"Oh Lord, it is Thy will that my mother gave birth unto me, and now the earth offers me back to You before the Ending."
His expression then changed. He arose and his eyes now glittered in determination. He fashioned a thick and heavy stick from the branch of the tree, and pointed it toward the city, shouting, "I asked for bread with all the strength of my voice, and was refused. The passing years rendered the youth a robber, killer and destroyer of souls; he crushed all who opposed him; he amassed fabulous wealth with which he won himself over to those in power. He was admired by colleagues, envied by other thieves, and feared by the multitudes.
His riches and false position prevailed upon the Emir to appoint him deputy in that city - the sad process pursued by unwise governors. Thefts were then legalized; oppression was supported by authority; crushing of the weak became commonplace; the throngs curried and praised.
Thus does the first touch of humanity's selfishness make criminals of the humble, and make killers of the sons of peace; thus does the early greed of humanity grow and strike back at humanity a thousand fold!

Do you really need us to answer that question? The story of one Potterphile's quest to change the world through charity.
Remember how the kids at Hogwarts assembled Dumbledore's Army to fight against the Dark Arts? Well, that's kind of happening in real life, too. Except this Dumbledore's Army is a registered nonprofit, a team of Harry Potter fans/missionaries that wants to eradicate poverty, illiteracy, and genocide. Seriously? "We are living in dark and difficult times, as Dumbledore says, and we have a choice between what is right and what is easy," says Andrew Slack, the founder of the real-life Dumbledore's Army, also known as the Harry Potter Alliance, which started in 2005 and counts more than 100,000 members across the globe. These Harry Potter-ites live by the motto "the weapon we have is love" (a.k.a., "Love is the most powerful form of magic," Slack says) and wear T shirts with the slogan WHAT WOULD DUMBLEDORE DO? Through blogs and YouTube videos, they've raised more than $15,000 in aid for Darfur and Burma and donated 14,000 books to children in need worldwide.
The Harry Potter Alliance's philosophy seeks to extract values from the Potter books (SPOILER ALERT! Good always triumphs over evil. Sorry, Lord Voldemort) and use that as a starting-off point for philanthropy. Slack says he tries to get Potter fans to understand the need for activism by making analogies between the book's plots and current events: wizard newspapers ignore the return of Lord Voldemort, while our media does not give due attention to the genocide in Darfur. Harry's teacher, Remus Lupin, faces social persecution because he is a werewolf, while people in our world are discriminated against on the basis of race, religion, or sexual orientation. The Dumbledore doctrine even supports gay marriage, and not just because Dumbledore was gay. "Equal marriage is both moral and essential," says the manifesto, which is posted on the site TheHPAlliance.org.
Thompson added that part of the appeal of the Harry Potter Alliance might lie in its similarity to role-playing games. "If we really want to be Harry Potter, we can't all go out and find a basilisk to slay," he explained. "But if you're thinking of ways you can be a Harry Potter-esque hero in the real world, one of the things that suggests itself is philanthropy. We can defeat metaphoric Voldemorts (dark forces) that way."

RIYADH (AFP) — Saudi Arabia announced tough new legal penalties for human trafficking on Monday after years of foreign criticism that it made little effort to stop abuses.
The cabinet set punishments of up to 15 years in prison and a one million riyal (266,666 dollar) fine, the official SPA news agency reported.
It included under the definition of trafficking holding a person under control for sexual abuse, forced labour, involuntary begging, slavery or slavery-like practices, and enforced organ removal or medical experimentation.
The cabinet agreed that tougher penalties should apply where the offence was committed against a disabled person, a woman or spouse, or a child who was the victim of a parent or guardian.
The Saudi government has been criticised for years for lacking anti-trafficking laws, despite frequent cases of alleged abuse particularly among the kingdom's seven to 10 million foreign workers, most of whom perform low-wage, low-skilled jobs.
A US State Department report published this year gave the kingdom its lowest ranking, saying that often foreigners are recruited legally to work in the country "but some subsequently face conditions indicative of involuntary servitude, including restrictions on movement, withholding of passports, threats, physical or sexual abuse, and non-payment of wages".
"Women, primarily from Asian and African countries, are also believed to have been trafficked into Saudi Arabia for commercial sexual exploitation," the report said.
"In addition, Saudi Arabia is a destination country for Nigerian, Yemeni, Pakistani, Afghan, Chadian, and Sudanese children trafficked for involuntary servitude as forced beggars and street vendors."
Critics have also charged that under the kingdom's conservative brand of Islamic sharia law, women and children can suffer abuse by male relatives that amounts to trafficking.
Second Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Prince Nayef bin Abdul Aziz said after the cabinet meeting that the new law "embodies the principles of Islamic sharia law which prohibit attacks on the rights of another human being."
It enables the kingdom to "protect the rights of its citizens and residents under Islamic law," SPA quoted him as saying.

Last week a story which gained very little traction hit the financial newswires. The U.S. Treasury is working on an internal project informally called “Plan C” which seeks to deal with further problems in the economy before they occur. The anonymous report came out stating the administration is reluctant to commit any additional money especially to the level mentioned in the report. However this is a disturbing new development in our bailout nation since this is one of the first times that the U.S. Treasury will try to preemptively deal with a financial problem.
The issues with this Plan C is that it is setup to be a buffer on further deterioration in various loan categories but the big one is commercial real estate. The commercial real estate market is gigantic and many of those loans are still active: Click HERE to view chart!
Some $3.5 trillion in commercial real estate loans are out in the market. The problem is complicated because commercial real estate holders simply rollover their debt into new loans. That of course has changed since the economy and credit markets have shutdown and many of these properties are now severely underwater. The amount of maturing loans in commercial real estate will double in 2010 and will continue upward into 2010. The chart is very clear and this is only for debt in CMBS and not held by regional banks which is over $2 trillion. This is the next multi-trillion dollar bailout you have yet to hear about. In fact, while many are discussing a second half recovery higher up officials are already planning a bailout for the commercial real estate industry. The challenge with this bailout is you are asking a public with 26,000,000 unemployed and underemployed Americans to shoulder the debt of largely speculative plays. To many it is palatable to bailout the residential real estate market because the public can understand that (even if it may be wrong) or bailing out the 2 large U.S. automakers. Yet bailing out the commercial real estate market is going to be a political nightmare.
Of course the U.S. Treasury would like you to believe this is merely a precaution but most of the last precautions we have heard about have turned out to be TRILLIONS and TRILLIONS in full on commitments shouldered by the American public.

Thank you for recently joining thousands around the world who are petitioning our governments to take actions to save amphibians. I don't need to tell you that frogs, salamanders, and other amphibians are facing the most significant mass extinction since the dinosaurs.
I'm Jean-Michel Cousteau, and I am writing to you on behalf of Amphibian Ark, the global nonprofit organization that is coordinating the emergency rescue of the most threatened amphibian species.
I am joining Sir David Attenborough, Jeff Corwin, and thousands of zoos, aquaria, and conservation organizations to support Amphibian Ark in rallying our planet to avert this mass extinction.
I write this to you on the eve of Feb. 29, 2008, which is called Leap Day in the United States and, in this special "Year of the Frog," is being call the International Day of the Frog.
Our collective success will come down to the money that is raised – from companies, and governments, and individuals like you and me. I am heartened at hearing stories of grade school children asking their birthday party guests to make donations to Amphibian Ark in lieu of a gift; and a British Isles couple that asked for donations to Amphibian Ark instead of wedding presents.
This indeed is a cause where small donations can add up to the saving of an endangered species. The physical plan for rescuing the most critically threatened amphibians involves converting trailer-sized containers into breeding centers, and training people to oversee the species' return to healthy populations. The cost of saving an entire species under this plan is $100,000 – compared to other wildlife rescue, this is an amazingly efficient plan.
You are among the thousands who are the first to "jump in" to the amphibian issue. We are counting on you to multiply this number.
