Email Communication I Received From a Concerned Citizen Regarding Our Healthcare Dilemma

I received an email from a reader yesterday that I would like to share with all of you. I like and totally agree with many of the points they brought up that desperately need to be addressed. I have also included my response below.

As people we deserve only what the good Lord wishes to give us. There is no guarantee of fairness nor should there be. Regarding healthcare specifically, the only way to make health care affordable is to 1) Make the med schools start accepting and processing more students, they have intentionally kept the population of doctors low as to stimulate a shortage and thus higher prices and more prestige; 2) Open the US drug market to more foreign competitors, the same drugs sold in Canada under similar standards are far less expensive and 3) Get congress out of healthcare.

Your healthcare is your choice and thus you can take your business wherever you wish. If you and all Americans did this instead of letting insurance companies and soon the government dictate your healthcare then the free market concept would force the cost of healthcare down. None of these will "cure" the problem on its own, but all three together would definitely get us on the right track. By the way, I have first hand knowledge of the schools limiting admittance as I scored in the 97th percentile on my MCAT, had a 4.0 GPA on my graduate courses and did not even get an interview. Don't judge the sea by looking at the surface, there are no waves just 5 feet below the surface.

Government run healthcare has always been available to every un-insured U.S. CITIZEN. This government run program is called MEDICAID and MEDICARE. These two programs are already $10 TRILLION dollars in the hole.

The reason why un-insured citizens end up in emergency rooms across America is because they are NOT able to get an appointment to see a doctor in a timely manner and because there is NO government medical center/clinic in their urban or rural community. If a person is in a car accident or has been shot the ambulence is going to drive them to the nearest hospital. The injured will either have private health insurance coverage or a Medicaid or Medicare card. What can be done about this? How can you prevent the injury? You can't. Life happens. The government is going to have to cover the cost for the medicare/medicaid patient! Yes it's more expensive. Unless, you instruct the ambulence to drive the injured patient to the nearest government run medical facility. But what if they are unconscious? Then have the ambulence rush the injured patient to the nearest PRIVATE hospital. Once the patient has been stabilized, preferrably within 24 hours transfer them to the nearest PUBLIC medical hospital or medical facility! This will REDUCE and CONTROL COST tremendously. Please note this idea will NOT WORK if the government does not invest in and build PUBLIC medical hospitals or medical centers across the country!

If this or any administration wanted to genuinely make a difference to help the poor, sick and needy they would build, open and FULLY FUND a medical center/clinic in every urban and rural community across America! These government run facilities would provide FREE preventative healthcare to all U.S. citizens who are not insured or are under-insured. This would also provide JOBS for medical personnel like yourself. The government could offer incentive to doctors for their service in these medical facilities such as for every year of service the government will FORGIVE a portion of your student loans. The same could apply for nurses.

This urgent dilemma could be handled IMMEDIATELY without delay put tons of people to work from the architects, construction workers, to adminstration, doctors and nurses etc. etc. This AREA needs to be FIXED FIRST! This is what is BROKEN!

By the way, I am totally against President Obama Healthcare reform bill. I don't want socialized government healthcare for all of us. Let's get real here! The new Healthcare reform bill President Obama is proposing and trying to RUSH through Congress is NOT going to SOLVE the problem. This bill is going to make matters WORSE. In fact, it is going to EXPAND government beauracracy where more of our taxpayer money will go towards paying more government agencies! There is NO SAVINGS involved here!

I also do not support all of the wasteful spending the Obama administration and this democratically ruled congress has done at our expense. Just a reminder of how much the Obama administration and the Democratically ruled Congress has spent thus far: $787 BILLION Stimulus Bill + $410 BILLION Omibus Bill + $525 BILLION Give Act = $1.722 T-R-I-L-L-I-O-N not million and not billion but TRILLION. Plus who knows how many other crappy bills they have passed AT OUR EXPENSE + the TRILLIONS of taxpayer dollars used for BANKSTER and AUTO BAILOUTS since President Obama has taken office. So PLEASE Citizens need to STOP MAKING EXCUSES FOR President Obama he spent all of this money with the STROKE OF HIS PEN and on HIS WATCH!
