UPDATE 4/8/25 at 7:05pm: It just came to me why the boyfriend chose to slice the neck of his girlfriend's 9yo niece she was babysitting instead of shooting her in the head like he did his girlfriend and her mom. Did he rape the little girl? or maybe the little girl knew something she wasn't suppose to know and he sliced her throat as a symbol to shut your mouth? The killer left the girlfriend's nephew alive at the home. Did his girlfriend catch him raping the little girl and he chose to kill them all to cover it up? The little girl was too risky for him to keep her alive. The poor nephew most likely has the answers since he witnessed the killings. Did the killer have an accomplice? The police are reporting cameras catch 2 cars driving into the area of vacant lot where the victim's and their car was burned and cameras show the killer leaving the area in his car. (emphasis mine)

DETROIT – An unimaginable scene unfolded on Detroit’s west side, a charred car and three lives taken.
The man suspected in this triple homicide, Edward Redding, 29, was arraigned Tuesday on a federal charge of felon in possession of a firearm.
This all stems from a horrific scene discovered early Sunday, which Detroit police are investigating as a triple homicide.
Three bodies were found inside a torched car, including Redding’s 44-year-old ex-girlfriend and her mother, both shot in the head in the back of the burned vehicle.
Redding’s ex-girlfriend’s 9-year-old niece was also found in the back seat, with her throat slashed.
Sources indicate that Redding’s ex-girlfriend had been babysitting at the time, but her nephew was unharmed in the home.
Court documents reveal that within 25 minutes of 911 calls, the Detroit Homicide Task Force was able to track a silver Saturn Vue to Redding.
When officers attempted to stop him, he fled southbound on I-75, driving on the shoulder and into oncoming traffic before exiting and running red lights in an effort to escape.
Redding ultimately lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a median.
Police say he attempted to run again but was arrested by troopers, who discovered a black Smith & Wesson .38-caliber revolver inside a brown bag on the front passenger-side floor.
Redding later admitted to seeing and touching the gun but claimed he ran because he was on parole and wanted to return the firearm, which was manufactured outside of Michigan, to its owner.
The 29-year-old convicted felon was out on parole for offenses dating back to 2010, including armed robbery, carjacking, and felony firearm possession.
Redding was sentenced to 11 to 22 years in prison and had served roughly 13 years.
Sources also indicate that Redding attempted to control his ex-girlfriend, whom he is suspected of killing, while he was behind bars, telling her where to be and what time to be there.
The 29-year-old was seen wearing a beige jumpsuit with chains around his ankles, waist, and wrists as he heard the charge against him in federal court on Tuesday (April 8).
Redding appeared to have an angry look on his face, but also looked zoned out at times.
He remains in custody and is due back in federal court on Thursday, April 10, 2025, to discuss bond conditions.
Though Redding has not been officially arraigned in connection with the triple homicide in Detroit, sources told Local 4 that he remains a suspect and the investigation is very active.
As Redding is in custody, Detroit police also have more time to work on their investigation without worrying about flight risk.
