ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – In August 2023, a family was shattered. A drive-by shooting claimed the life of 5-year-old Galilea Samaniego.

Five teens were arrested in the weeks that followed: Yahir Carballo, Alexander Barraza Venzor, Alan Ramirez, Jose Luis Ramirez and Sencheray Hernandez.

Prosecutors say they were reportedly targeting another teen who lived there, but they hit Galilea instead.

In court Monday, prosecutors played a ShotSpotter audio recording of the shooting.

All five teen suspects took plea deals in the case. They were all sentenced Monday. KOB 4 is not allowed to show them in court due to their age.

Carballo, Venzor and the Ramirez brothers all pleaded guilty to first-degree murder. Under their agreements, they faced sentences of up to 20 years in prison.

Hernandez pleaded guilty to lesser charges of conspiracy and car theft. She faced up to eight years in prison under her agreement. The Ramirez brothers were the first sentenced on Monday. They offered apologies in court.

“I am sorry for the pain I have caused to the families who have been a part of my actions. Today, I face the consequences of my actions that have caused loss of an innocent life while. also letting my emotions take over my actions,” said Jose Luis Ramirez.

“I sincerely apologize for my actions, and I regret all the pain and suffering I caused to you and all the families,” said Alan Ramirez.

Judge David Murphy sentenced both brothers to 20 years in prison. They will have to serve at least 85% of that sentence before they are eligible for release.

“After that 20 years to be served in Department of Corrections, you’ll come out with that period of probation and parole. Mr. Ramirez, I hope you use it as an opportunity to make something of your life at that point in time, but I’m sure you understand that the sentence has to be a serious one,” said Murphy.

Yahir Carballo received a 16-year sentence. He tried to shoot at the home, but his gun jammed. Alexander Barraza Venzor was sentenced to 12 years in prison. Sencheray Hernandez received 10 and a half years, but her sentence was suspended.
