ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. -- A third suspect has been arrested for Monday's drive-by shooting and pursuit in Escambia County that ended with a jump off the Highway 90 bridge.

Terrance Lovelle Gross Jr., 19, was taken into custody Thursday near the border in Laredo, Texas, by the Webb County Sheriff's Office.

"Gross is believed to be the third suspect who jumped over the Hwy 90 bridge," the Escambia County Sheriff's Office said in a release Friday morning. "Gross has been arrested and will be extradited to Escambia County, where he will face charges associated with shooting a 70-year-old female."

In a Facebook post Thursday night, the Webb County Sheriff's office said they received information that Gross Jr. was traveling to Laredo. The Escambia County Sheriff's Office said in its release that he was heading to Mexico.

"Through a collaborative effort with Department of Homeland Security (HSI), Department of Public Safety (DPS), and other law enforcement agencies, a felony traffic stop was conducted on a white Dodge Ram at the intersection of Calle Del Norte and McPherson," the Webb County Sheriff's Office says.

Gross Jr. was the passenger in the vehicle. His father was driving. Deputies released the father after arresting Gross Jr.
WHY did the police release the suspect's father when he was aiding and abetting? WTH? The father should be arrested and charged with helping his son escape. Accessory after the fact. (emphasis mine)
Gross Jr.'s active warrants in Escambia County were:
  • attempted murder
  • leeing/eluding
  • weapon offense
He may face additional charges in Escambia County once extradited from Webb County Jail, according to the Escambia County Sheriff's Office. There's no word on his health condition at this time.

The incident happened Monday evening starting on Erress Boulevard in Montclair. A 70-year-old woman was critically injured in a drive-by shooting. She remains hospitalized.

The chase that followed ended on the Highway 90 bridge. Three suspects jumped off the bridge after a deputy PIT maneuver -- 19-year-old Jaquaris Ethridge was initially arrested, 22-year-old Trevion Moton died in the fall and the third suspect got away.

Sheriff K9 Streeter also jumped from the bridge going after a suspect, who's now believed to be Gross Jr.

"A couple days ago we got word he may have escaped the perimeter," Sheriff Simmons said. "We were going off that assumption, which led us to develop the partnership with Texas authorities and they were able to stop them for us."

Sheriff Simmons says deputies are looking into potential charges for Gross Jr.'s father, as well as others who may have helped Gross Jr. allude deputies for nearly five days.

"What we're looking at now is who may have helped him," Sheriff Simmons said. "The thought here is he escaped the perimeter and someone picked him up. He didn't walk out. ...We're gonna have those conversations about not just the father but what potential charges those who helped him could face."

Streeter suffered bruised ribs and other minor injuries in his jump from the bridge. He returned to normal work duty Friday.

"We got your guy, K-9 Streeter!" the Escambia County Sheriff's Office said Friday.

Ethridge, who remains in Escambia County Jail without bond, is charged with murder (in Moton's death), attempted murder, weapon offense and fleeing/eluding.
