The FBI is asking a U.S. court to reverse its order that it produce information from Seth Rich’s laptop computer.
If the court does not, the bureau wants 66 years to produce the information.
Rich was a Democratic National Committee staffer when he was killed on a street in Washington in mid-2016. No person has ever been arrested in connection to the murder.
U.S. District Judge Amos Mazzant, an Obama appointee, ruled in September that the bureau must hand over information from the computer to Brian Huddleston, a Texas man who filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request for the info.
The FBI’s assertion that the privacy interest Rich’s family members hold outweighed the public interest was rejected by Mazzant, who noted the bureau cited no relevant case law supporting the argument.
But the ruling was erroneous, U.S. lawyers said in a new filing.
The bureau shouldn’t have to produce the information because of FOIA exemptions for information that are compiled for law enforcement purposes and “could reasonably be expected to disclose the identity of a confidential source,” the lawyers said in a motion for reconsideration. Another exemption, which enables agencies to withhold information that would disclose law enforcement techniques also applies, they said.
“Given the Court’s findings that except for the information related to Seth Rich’s laptop withheld pursuant to Exemptions 6 and 7(C) based on privacy interests, the FBI properly withheld or redacted all other information responsive to Huddleston’s requests, the production order seems inconsistent with the rest of the order,” the motion stated.
The FBI, after claiming it never possessed Rich’s laptop or any information from it, acknowledged in 2020 that it had thousands of files from the computer.
The bureau “is currently working on getting the files from Seth Rich’s personal laptop into a format to be reviewed,” the government said at the time.
Information and material extracted from the computer were provided by a source to an FBI agent during a meeting on March 15, 2018, FBI records officer Michael Seidel said in a declaration. He said the files included photographs and documents, among other material.
In the new filing, government lawyers said the FBI never extracted the data, which it revealed as originating with a law enforcement agency. They said the information is on a compact disc containing images of the laptop.
“The FBI did not open an investigation into the murder of Seth Rich, nor did it provide investigative or technical assistance to any investigation into the murder of Seth Rich. As a result, the FBI has never extracted the data from the compact disc and never processed the information contained on the disc,” they said.
To produce the information, the FBI would have to convert information on the disc into pages and then review the pages to redact information per FOIA, according to the government.
If Mazzant upholds his order, the FBI wants a lengthy period of time to perform the work—66 years, or 500 pages a month.
“If the court overrules the FBI’s motion, the FBI wants to produce records at a rate of 500 pages per month. At that rate, it will take almost 67 years just to produce the documents, never mind the images and other files,” Ty Clevenger, a lawyer representing Huddleston, told The Epoch Times in an email.
“After dealing with the FBI for five years, I now assume that the FBI is lying to me unless and until it proves otherwise. The FBI is desperately trying to hide records about Seth Rich, and that begs the question of why.”
WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has suggested Rich leaked Democratic National Committee (DNC) files to WikiLeaks, but special counsel Robert Mueller said the real source was Russian hackers. Still, Mueller’s finding conflicts with statements from CrowdStrike, the firm hired to investigate how the DNC files were released.

WASHINGTON, DC- On July 10, 2016, Seth Rich, 27, a Democratic Party aide was shot twice in the back in Washington, D.C., eventually succumbing to his wounds. In over six years since that murder, more questions than answers remain. And now, the FBI, amid numerous questions about the integrity of the agency, has asked a judge to seal evidence from the probe for 66 years, according to Slay News.
Bizarre? Clearly.
Even more odd, the former “greatest investigatory agency in the world” has previously claimed the evidence they are seeking to hide…er suppress…doesn’t even exist, with the outlet reporting the FBI has failed to hand over evidence in the case despite a court order mandating the agency do so.
This past September, a U.S. District Judge for the Eastern District of Texas ordered the FBI to “produce the information it possesses related to Seth Rich’s laptop.” The order, issued by Judge Amos L. Mazzant gave the FBI 14 days to provide the evidence. The clearly rogue agency has refused to do so. That deadline expired on October 13 with the FBI not providing the information.
It wasn’t until after the deadline that the Biden administration, for unknown reasons, asked for additional time to provide the information.
It is also reported the FBI is withholding three reports produced by CrowdStrike in 2016 in reference to an alleged hack on servers belonging to the Democratic National Committee.
For those unfamiliar, CrowdStrike is a cybersecurity company based in Austin, Texas which “provides cloud workload and endpoint security, threat intelligence, and cyberattack response services.”
When Rich was shot, DC Metro Police initially classified the incident as a robbery, however it did not appear that any of Rich’s personal effects, including his phone, wallet or other personal items were taken during the incident, with all in his possession when police arrived.
What makes Rich’s death even more compelling is the possible ties to Hillary Clinton, who along with her husband Bill have seen a number of individuals tied to the couple end up dying under somewhat bizarre circumstances.
In this case, some individuals believe Rich was the source of leaked emails between Clinton and her campaign manager, John Podesta, which were obtained by WikiLeaks in the runup to the 2016 presidential election.
Rich’s shooting took place shortly after the emails were provided to WikiLeaks. Coincidence? You decide.
Despite requesting a 66-year delay on releasing information related to the Rich shooting, the FBI has long denied being in possession of any information or files related to his murder. Yet the FBI has since admitted they are withholding information on Rich’s death.
That led to Friday’s request by inept (and probably corrupt) FBI Director Christopher Wray, who asked for information related to the Rich investigation be sealed for 66 years. A reasonable person must ask, why?
According to The Epoch Times:

What exactly is the FBI trying to hide and why are they trying to hide it? Sounds pretty swampy to us.
I shared the following Twitter thread from MXMarineMomKendra (@MXMarineMomK) in September 2021 on my blog. Since then her Twitter account has been suspended. Fortunately my blog stores the text from the tweets so I'm able to share her information.
MXMarineMomKendra (@MXMarineMomK) writes, "Ok next up Awan, Debbie Wasserman Shultz, DNC Primary election fraud and John Podesta. The dots leading to Russian Collusion. Who started that lie of Russia hacks DNC server? John Podesta (but it was really a DNC staffer) Day they murder Seth Rich. Crowdstrike gets $ to lie.
Gateway Pundit reveals Abid Awan was at Obamas White House for a 7 hour meeting. Why is a I.T. tech briefing Obama for 7 hours? COULD it be over a DNC hack giving Wikileaks Julian Assange those damming emails? They had a very good reason to be worried.
Capitol police find Debbie Wasserman-Shultz laptop. There is email evidence of her ordering a MS-13 hit on the one who leaks those DNC emails. So who really leaks emails from DNC server? A DNC staffer who is upset about Primary voter fraud.
The DNC staffer supported Bernie and knew he won. The Head of DNC is Wasserman-Shultz and they use voter fraud and put Hillary as winner. The DNC staffer is Seth Rich. He downloads emails onto flashdrive and gives to wikileaks. Hillarys Campaign Mngr is steaming. Guess who he is!
John Podesta...yes that guy. He wants to make an example of whoever did this!! And they murder Seth Rich and later murder the two MS-13 guys they hire. The day Seth is murdered a big check from DNC to Crowdstrike is sent. Obviously to say it was a Russian hack.
Could you follow all of that? WAIT One more thing- Who becomes Head of FBI one week before 9/11? Robert Mueller. ๐payments to Crowdstrike they never examine DNC server. FBI doesn't examine server either. Crowdstrike Senior Executive Shawn Hayes was in FBI under Mueller."
Do you know who paid for the Dossier? Hillary Clinton, DNC, and Obama organization. More on that next time! The FBI was in contact with Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell's minor victim back in 2014, yet they did nothing.

Awan has been the lead suspect in an ongoing criminal probe into security breaches within the House of Representatives that was launched on Feb. 2. He allegedly doubled charged the U.S. House for IT equipment and may have exposed sensitive House members' information online. According to previous reports, Wasserman Schultz kept Awan on her payroll, even though he had been banned from House servers by Capitol Hill security.
Awan, who was hired in 2005, was reportedly in possession of an iPad used by then-DNC Chair Wasserman Schultz, a Florida representative, around the time that DNC emails were leaked to WikiLeaks.
Awan, three members of his family, and close friend Rao Abbas were House IT workers and are accused of stealing equipment from Democratic members’ offices without their knowledge and committing potentially illegal violations on the House IT network, including leaking sensitive information stored within the servers and personal devices of House members.
The Awan family — as well as friends — were alleged to have owed money to the terrorist group Hezbollah.
Reports have revealed that Awan was not only abusing the system for financial gain but also may have had access to top DNC leadership technology.
The Awans worked in 32 House member offices, all Democrats, including the office of Wasserman Schultz and members of the Homeland Security Committee, the Foreign Affairs Committee, and the Intelligence Committee. The tech team also worked in the office of the House Democratic Caucus.
House authorities began suspecting the Awan family and targeted them for investigation during their search for a secret server that was funneling congressional data off-site.
Capitol Police ordered Awan to no longer come near House servers during the investigation, but Schultz decided to get around that by keeping him on an “advisory position" and allowing him to work remotely.
Wasserman Schultz put in her resignation from her position of DNC chief in July 2016 after the DNC's IT system was hacked.
“The Awans had [members] in their pocket,” one IT staffer told The Daily Caller. “There are a lot of members who could go down over this.”
Shortly after an investigation had been launched, Awan moved abruptly from his Virginia rental home, and the rental's new tenant — a Marine Corps veteran — reported that "wireless routers, hard drives that look like they tried to destroy [sic], laptops, [and] a lot of brand new expensive toner" were left behind after Awan's departure.
“It was in the garage," the vet reported. "They recycled cabinets and lined them along the walls. They left in a huge hurry. It looks like government-issued equipment. We turned that stuff over.”
The Marine also stated that Awan attempted multiple times to recover the electronics from his former rental home but was unsuccessful.
On Sunday, the FBI were reportedly seizing hard drives from Awan's home.
