FAIRFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio - Police have made an arrest after a shooting that left one person dead and a second injured at a local Walmart Thursday night.

Officers arrested 32-year-old Anthony Brown of Hamilton, Ohio. They found him at the Fairfield Inn in Middletown overnight, hours after the incident took place. Police say Brown jumped out of a first-floor window, dropped a gun and was arrested.

The shooting happened just before 8 p.m. at the Walmart on Princeton Road in Fairfield Township.

Before arriving at the store, officers were told by dispatch that two people were shot and the suspect left the store.

Witnesses said the suspect attempted to steal items from the electronics section but a shopper intervened. The suspect was able to pull away and run toward the front of the store where another shopper tried to stop him.

That's when the suspect pulled out a handgun and shot and killed that shopper, according to police.

Another person who was in the area was also struck by a bullet and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Police have not released the names of the victims.

The suspect's car was found by Hamilton PD but the suspect wasn't inside. Detectives are interviewing a passenger who was in the car as well as other witnesses.
