Angry that a girl from his native place had turned down his proposal, a 17-year-old from Nalasopara stabbed the girl, also 17, at her Thane residence on Sunday.
The girl was taken to Kaushalya Hospital with injuries to her stomach and had to be operated upon.
The boy, a resident of Nalasopara, is a school dropout and works as a salesman. The police have arrested him and registered a case of attempted murder, said Balasaheb Patil, deputy commissioner of police, zone 5.
The girl is a Class 11 student. The boy visited her house on Sunday and when her parents left the room, stabbed her with a knife.
Patil said the boy had proposed to the girl earlier and she had turned him down. Both come from Vaibhavwadi in Konkan and the boy had allegedly threatened the girl during an earlier visit to their village. She had not told anyone about this.
Mangesh Sarade, the girl’s neighbour, said, “We heard the girl’s shouts and saw the boy running away. We caught him and took him to the police.”
