Abu Dhabi: Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has reaffirmed its continual provision of assistance and support to promote stability and development in Afghanistan.

The Kingdom has also expressed its great interest in development of cooperative relations with Afghanistan at various economic, cultural and investment fields and at the bilateral, regional and international levels.

The Kingdom’s stance was made clear in a speech delivered by Prince Dr.Turki bin Mohammad bin Saud Al Kabeer, Undersecretary of the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs for multi-lateral relations, before the regional political dialogue meeting on Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi.

Prince Dr. Turki bin Mohammed bin Saud Al Kabeer explained that the Kingdom has provided and committed to provide to the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan more than $475 million, in addition to in-kind assistance and other technical and academic aid.

He said, “The government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has been exerting great efforts to help and support the brotherly Afghan people and stand with them to overcome the difficulties they faced in the past years and has called in this context, all spectrums of the Afghan people to dialogue, as the sole path toward resolving the many difficulties and challenges.”

Prince Dr.Turki bin Mohammad bin Saud Al Kabeer explained that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has actively participated in international donors conferences for Afghanistan and expressed the support of the Saudi Government for the efforts of the Supreme Commission for Peace in Afghanistan.

He said, “The new president of the Commission Ambassador Salah-Al-Deen Rabbani visited the Kingdom at the head of a delegation of the Commission in July 2012 and presented an important presentation to the officials regarding perceptions by the government Afghanistan of the national reconciliation efforts in Afghanistan and the future steps to be followed under the transitional phase and completeness of the national Afghan forces’ takeover of security in the country.”

Turning to the economic side, he said that Saudi Arabia attaches great importance to developing cooperation with Afghanistan at different economic, cultural and investment fields and at the bilateral, regional and international levels.

He added that the Kingdom has provided and committed to provide to the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan more than $475 million, in addition to in-kind assistance and technical and academic aid.

“The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will continue to provide assistance and support to promote stability and development in Afghanistan,” he said.
