PHOENIX (AP) — A Chandler man accused in the 2009 death of his infant daughter has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and child abuse.
Maricopa County prosecutors say 27-year-old Brian Hopf entered his plea Tuesday. He's scheduled to be sentenced July 5.
Hopf originally was charged with first-degree murder and was found competent to stand trial two months ago.
Police say 3-week-old Isabella Hopf died in September 2009 at a Chandler-area hospital.
Doctors say the baby had serious injuries that included multiple skull fractures, brain swelling, broken ribs and other body trauma.
Investigators say Hopf told them he accidentally poked the child in the eye while giving her milk.
The girl's mother found the child unresponsive in her crib and took her to a hospital.
