Oliver Eugen Kretz made history over the weekend as the Philippines' first winner of the Man of the World pageant.

The Filipino-German model bested 27 other candidates in the 8th edition of the Manila-based pageant.

The competition was held at Palacio de Maynila last Saturday, June 6.

His runners-up include delegates from Ecuador, Chile, Mexico, and Malaysia.

"It's history for the Philippines to win Man of the World," Kretz said in a video on his Instagram page on Monday, June 8.

"I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all the supporters all around the world, especially the Filipino fans that are so passionate in terms of pageantry," he added.

"I enjoyed my journey in Man of the World. I enjoyed the brotherhood and the bonding. We all did our best and I'm also proud of them."

Aside from the Man of the World 2026 title, Kretz also topped the swimwear and beachwear competitions, and won the "press favorite" poll.

During the competition, the Philippine delegate and the rest of the Top 5 finalists were asked to give a title to a book if they were to write about their experience in Man of the World.

He picked the title "Journey to Growth and Purpose," saying he hopes to use his crown and platform to "raise awareness, inspire unity, and to encourage people to take action."

And in his "Statement to the World," Kretz spoke of his parents' separation, which made him think that "survival was my only option and that dreaming was no longer meant for me."

"As I grew older, I realized I was not alone. Many children in the Philippines are forced into survival because of corruption, while others across the world are robbed of their childhood because of the injustices of war, crisis, and conflict," he said.

"Humanity must be rooted in peace and integrity. Our future should never be shaped by greed, but by compassion and responsibility," he stressed. "I hope one day no child will be homeless or broken like me, because every child will finally have a future they can call their own."
