A group of men terrorized employees and customers of a food truck on Sunday in a disturbing on-camera attack that’s under investigation by police.
Tacos Los Poblanos said its Florence location on Avalon Boulevard will be closed until further notice after a large group of men vandalized its food truck and equipment van. Surveillance footage posted by the business showed the group using bats and throwing items at the business to vandalize it.
“They came out of nowhere,” said the owner’s daughter, who asked to conceal her identity out of fear for her family’s safety, “Out of nowhere, we look up and it’s about 30 men entering. They came in with the intention of creating chaos and harming people.”
The incident was reported shortly after midnight on Sunday, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Officers were called to the scene for a report of an assault with a deadly weapon.
The owner’s daughter said several employees were physically attacked by the assailants. She said one worker was so badly beaten with a bat that he had to be hospitalized.
“He has a family, he has a wife who is expecting,” she said. “So, this is devastating.”
LAPD has not released a detailed description of the individuals wanted in connection with the attack. The case remains under investigation.

Employees say suspects live-streamed the attack, which left one worker hospitalized and caused significant damage, on TikTok.
A taco truck described as a staple of the South Los Angeles community was hit by a group of suspects in a brazen late night attack that was entirely caught on camera.
Per the Los Angeles Police Department, several calls regarding an assault with a deadly weapon came in to dispatch around 12:10 a.m. Monday in the area of Slauson Avenue and Avalon Boulevard.
“One caller said there was a large group of suspects armed with bats and rocks,” an LAPD spokesperson told KTLA. “Another caller said they were breaking windows and assaulting employees at the location.”
Officers rushed to the scene; however, all of the suspects had fled the area by the time they arrived. No arrests have been made in connection with the incident in the 36 hours that have transpired since.
Multiple police reports were taken, including for robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and vandalism, according to LAPD.
While authorities did not immediately disclose further details on the attack, a report from L.A. TACO – an independent media outlet that covers “street-level news stories” across L.A. – indicates that a group of “almost 30 men” were involved in assaulting 13 workers at Tacos Los Poblanos, a family-run Tijuana-style taco truck located within a car wash parking lot.
A later statement from LAPD indicated there were “approximately 15 suspects described as male Hispanics” involved in the incident.
The statement elaborated that there were six total victims, five of whom were treated at the scene for complaints of pain.
“The Tijuana-style asada specialist, a staple in the South Los Angeles community for nearly 15 years, has never experienced an incident of this magnitude,” said L.A. TACO reporter Javier Cabral.
In addition, Tacos Los Poblanos took to social media to inform the public of the incident and show the damage the truck sustained, with harrowing video of the attack and aftermath included in the post.
“Unfortunately, our entire team was assaulted and one of our teammates had to be hospitalized,” the widely loved street vendor’s Instagram post reads. “For everybody, please be careful and keep an eye out for these people.”
“We never had problems with anyone…our team works extremely hard,” the post continued. “Many of our customers let us know that this was happening because the group of vandals were transmitting the event live on TikTok…This is absolutely devastating to us on so many levels.”
Speaking to KTLA 5’s Kimberly Cheng on Tuesday, a member of the family who owns the truck recounted the frightening experience and expressed belief that the attack, which occurred as the business was closing for the night, was random and unprovoked.
“They came running in and immediately started causing damage…they started breaking things, and you could see our employees take notice of what’s going on,” the family member, who asked to remain anonymous, said. “They reacted quickly [with] some of them running into the truck and trying to barricade themselves in. The female employees ran over to the fence and hopped the fence.”
“They smashed the windows, slashed the truck’s tires and our other van’s windows as well,” she continued. “Then they began to hit our employees.”
After the incident, the owners asked the employees whether they recognized the suspects from previous interactions or if they knew if some of them had a bad experience with the business in any way. The employees said “absolutely nothing,” according to store ownership.
Referring to the worker who was hospitalized, an employee told KTLA that they were struck in the head with a baseball bat.
“Why us? They didn’t even take money,” the employee lamented.
Store ownership said that some of the suspects were wearing soccer jerseys for Cruz Azul, a team in Mexico, and some were heard shouting things related to soccer; however, it is not known what exactly they were referring to. None of the workers have any affiliation to soccer teams, ownership added.
The social media post from Tacos Los Poblanos indicated that the location at Slauson and Avalon will be closed until further notice. Other trucks operated by the same company are open.
The cost to repair the damage was not immediately known.
Anyone with information on the attack or additional video footage is encouraged to contact the LAPD.
