The death of two adults in Raynham Friday has been ruled a murder-suicide, officials said. Children in the home at the time were unharmed.
Police responded to a home at 134 Elm Street West in Raynham around 12:05 p.m. Aug. 8, Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn said in a statement.
Marie Hunt, 37, was found locked in a second floor bedroom with an apparent gunshot wound to her abdomen, the DA said. Mark Henshaw, 35, had an apparent gunshot wound to the head.
After an investigation, the state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled Hunt’s death a homicide and Henshaw’s death a suicide, Quinn announced Monday.
Both adults were found on the bed in the locked bedroom, and emergency services pronounced Hunt and Henshaw dead at the scene, the DA said.
Two children were at the home when police arrived and were unharmed, according to Quinn’s office. The two adults lived at the home together.
Hunt was a correction officer at Old Colony Correctional Center, according to her union. The Massachusetts Correction Officers Federated Union mourned her death in a post on Sunday.
“While words cannot capture the depth of this sorrow, we honor her memory with quiet reverence and deep respect,” the union wrote. “MCOFU stands firmly beside Marie’s children and family, offering our unwavering support and love. In grief, we find unity. In remembrance, we find strength.”
The Massachusetts State Police assigned to the DA’s office and Raynham police are investigating.

Authorities didn't share the ages of the children or describe their relationship to Hunt and Henshaw, but Hunt's brother, Justin Firsch, said they are 6 and 7, noting that Hunt is their mother.
A 911 call sent officers to the home about 12:05 p.m. Friday, according to the district attorney's office. There were no signs of forced entry inside.
Officers first found the two children, then forced their way into the locked bedroom upstairs, officials said. Henshaw had an apparent gunshot wound to his head, while Hunt had a gunshot wound in her abdomen.
Hunt was a prison guard in Bridgewater for seven or eight years, Firsch said. He added that he did not know Henshaw personally.
