HUNTSVILLE, Alabama — A father found dead following what Huntsville Police determined was a murder-suicide has been identified.
The man was identified by HPD as Dominic Kane-Tucker, 21, of Huntsville.
A HPD spokesperson said Wednesday that a joint investigation into a deadly house fire in the 1100 block of Retlaw Street has determined the incident was a murder suicide.
HPD said on August 5, just before 3 p.m., officers responded to 1115 Retlaw Street to assist the Huntsville Fire and Rescue with a fire. The department said that a firefighter discovered the bodies of a 21-year-old man and a 23-month-old child in a bedroom.
According to police, evidence at the scene, along with autopsy results from the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences, confirmed that both people had died of gunshot wounds. HPD said a gun was recovered from the scene and was determined to have been the weapon used.
The department said it urges anyone struggling with mental health to seek support.
“Help is available through local resources such as WellStone, the National Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988, or by speaking with trusted friends or family,” an HPD spokesperson said.
