Mother allegedly shot her children's father to death as he picked them up from daycare

STARKE, Fla. (WKRC) - A mother allegedly shot the father of her children to death while the patriarch was picking the children up from daycare.

According to an arrest report obtained by Law&Crime, officers arrived to Auntie Lili's Daycare on Friday to respond to a report of a shooting and an armed woman. Upon arriving, first responders found the victim, Christopher Jones, in the doorway of the daycare "bleeding profusely from what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds," per the document.

Authorities reviewed the daycare's security cameras and learned that the suspect, identified as 34-year-old Mindy Osteen, approached Jones' vehicle shortly after he placed the children and their belongings into the car, per the document. Osteen reportedly followed Jones as he sat down in the driver's seat and reached into her backpack.

"Mindy walks directly up to Christopher and fires 3 shots as she backs up slightly," the document read. "She then walks back up to Christopher and fires 2 more shots."

Osteen allegedly fired an additional time at Jones as he attempted to run away. Jones ran into the daycare and attempted to take cover, but became stuck behind a doorway, at which point Osteen fired three more bullets at him. The children were allegedly screaming from inside Jones' vehicle, having seen the entire ordeal unfold.

"Please let the monster die," Osteen reportedly said. "You got to die Chris..."

Osteen allegedly walked around the property and looked through Jones' car, and was doing so when deputies arrived. Jones reportedly told deputies that Osteen had shot him, and she approached authorities without question.

"I'm right here y'all, I done it in self defense," she allegedly said.

Jones was taken to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

Mindy was charged with premeditated first degree murder, two counts of aggravated child abuse, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and grand theft of a firearm.
