I'd also like to make a correction. The LA DA mentioned the victim the suspect had an outstanding warrant out for his arrest was 16yo not an adult male. The authorities are asking for anyone who was his victim to please come forward. If families have missing loved ones who were last seen with him please come forward. The DA and LAPD said please don't worry about your legal status. They want every victim of his to get justice. (emphasis mine)

Anyone who may have been his victim needs to come forward to help keep this man behind bars. He may be a serial sexual predator. The 13yo boy's family says he just met this "coach" a few months ago and now the 13yo boy is dead after visiting the coach's home to do work to make money to buy himself a soccer jersey for his team. The man in custody, Mario Edgardo Garcia Aquino, 43, was arrested by LAPD detectives Wednesday morning on a warrant issued earlier that day in an unrelated sexual assault case that was investigated last year by the LA County Sheriff's Department.

"This individual has not been arrested or charged in connection with the Hernandez case," said LAPD Public Information Director Jennifer Forkish.

"Our investigation is ongoing," she said.

Garcia Aquino failed to make an initial court appearance at the Criminal Courts Building in downtown LA on Friday and was expected to appear Monday.

He was being held in LA County jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.

According to the criminal complaint in the 2024 investigation, Garcia Aquino faces a single count of assault with intent to commit another felony, which prosecutors allege was the attempted rape, sodomy or oral copulation of a man.

Records show the alleged assault took place in February 2024 and was investigated by the LA County Sheriff's Department's Special Victims Bureau.

Several law enforcement sources said the LA County District Attorney's Office reviewed the case in 2024 but did not file criminal charges for unknown reasons.

NBC LA requested a case memo from the DA's office, usually supplied on request, that would detail the office's decision in the case, but a spokesperson declined to provide it.

The DA's Office said late Friday it could not comment directly on the case, as it's an ongoing investigation.

OXNARD, Calif. - The body of a missing 13-year-old boy was found in Ventura County on Wednesday, the family confirmed to FOX 11. Relatives say that he was with his soccer coach just before they reported him missing.

Boy's body found in Oxnard

What we know: The Los Angeles Police Department and FBI were called out to an area near McGrath State Beach in Oxnard on Wednesday. When they got there, they found a boy's dead body.

The family confirmed to FOX 11 on Thursday that it was their son, Oscar Omar Hernandez, who was killed.

Teen goes missing

The backstory: Oscar was reported missing over the weekend, according to the LAPD. He was last seen near Lancaster.

Oscar's family told FOX 11 on Thursday that he was supposed to be with a man they described as his soccer coach on the day he went missing. Oscar played soccer regularly at Whitsett Park in North Hollywood.

Older brother Jose said he tried to call Oscar on Saturday, but the coach answered the phone, saying that Oscar couldn't come to the phone. The phone went dead after that.

Daniel Hernandez, Oscar's father, eventually got in touch with the coach, who said he had dropped Oscar off "near" their house. That's when the family called the police.
I hope the FBI and LAPD are asking for surveillance camera video around the area the coach claims to have dropped the boy off "near" the boy's house. I wonder what reason he gave for not dropping the boy off at his home? The coach told the family as reported in the NBCLA video news report above, that he couldn't remember exactly where he dropped the teen off. The coach couldn't remember if it was day or night when he dropped the teen off. That's suspicious as heck. I hope they look for surveillance camera video around the coach's home when the boy visited. Interview the coach's neighbors to ask if they saw the boy at his home. (emphasis mine)
LAPD, FBI investigating teen's death

What's next: The LAPD has called in the FBI to assist in the investigation. Officials confirmed to FOX 11 that they are talking to that soccer coach as a person of interest in the case.

What we don't know: Officials haven't yet said how the boy died or how he got to Oxnard.
