Nearly three months after Nahomi Cittadini was found dead on the side of I-95, authorities have charged her boyfriend with second-degree murder.

Cittadini, 22, was discovered naked along the highway near Ives Dairy Road on the morning of Dec. 7.

Her boyfriend, Lorent Junior Pion, 29, initially told investigators that she had jumped out of his car during an argument and was hit by another vehicle.

But newly released evidence contradicts his story.

New evidence surfaces

According to Pion's arrest warrant, a Florida Department of Transportation worker reviewed traffic camera footage from that morning and saw a man repeatedly punching a woman before dragging her toward the highway.

"The victim crawled back to the emergency shoulder," the witness said. "The subject punched the victim and dragged her back to the far-right lane in the path of oncoming traffic."

The arrest warrant states that blood was found both inside and outside of Pion's vehicle.

Cittadini's mother, Maria Benitez, said Pion video-called Cittadini's father after the incident, showing him her phone, Apple Watch and purse.

"He had her belongings at his sister's house," Benitez said.

Facing murder charge

Pion, a convicted felon, was initially arrested for failing to stop at the scene and aggravated fleeing. He is now facing a second-degree murder charge and is expected to be transferred to Miami-Dade County.

Benitez, clutching a pink urn containing her daughter's ashes, said she is still seeking justice.

"I know that's not going to bring my daughter back, but at least she'll rest easier," she said. "He has to pay."

The arrest warrant also reveals that Pion and Cittadini had a violent history.

In August, they were involved in a physical altercation in Miami Beach, leading to a protective order against Pion.

The mother of Nahomi Valentina Cittadini, the 22-year-old woman found dead and naked on I-95 this Saturday, spoke with Noticias 23 and is asking for justice for her daughter.

According to María Teresa Benitez, Lorent Pion, 29, who is being investigated as a person of interest in the case , had beaten his daughter several times and that she, along with other women, had reported him to the police on several occasions.

"I still believe it's a lie. I even just texted her, and she hasn't responded, she hasn't called me. Why did he have to kill her? He was obsessed with her; she told him she didn't want to be with him anymore, and he showed up everywhere."

María Teresa says that her daughter went to New York and that Loret Pion appeared to her there, despite having a restraining order.

"He threatened her. He had a shackle on his foot, and he couldn't come near her. She had a restraining order against him," María Teresa said through tears.

The mother also said that last month she went to look for Nahomi and then heard a burst of bullets against the house , so she reported it to the police.

At about 6:00 a.m. Saturday, Miami-Dade police received calls reporting two people arguing on northbound I-95 near the Ives Dairy Road exit ramp . The Florida Highway Patrol responded and discovered the body of Nahomi Valentina on the side of the highway .

Police quickly located Lorent and a chase ensued. The man was finally captured after colliding with other cars in Miramar.

Lorent is under investigation, but so far faces no homicide charges.

Nahomi's family created a GoFundMe account to raise money to cover the young woman's funeral expenses , as she would have turned 23 later this month.
