USA: 59yo Man Killed 4 SIblings Who Were Visiting To Sell The House They Inherited From Their 95yo Mom Who Passed Days Ago In Long Island. He Killed Himself Afterward. He Lived In House Entire Life.

UPDATE 8/26/24 at 4:47pm: Added video below. I corrected the title to this post. He's 59yo not 60 and their mom just passed away days ago not last year as I original stated that the news reported yesterday. The shooter was grieving his mom's very recent death who he lived with his entire 59 years and then his siblings were going to immediately sell their family home. I can hear them basically saying to him, "It's 4 against 1. You have no choice but to move out." That sounds pretty cold hearted. They had no sympathy for him. They just wanted their inheritance in cash. They probably never gave a crap about their mother too. They should have tried to help him transition emotionally and financially. Well, that's what I'm feeling. Just awful. Now they're all dead for their greed and cold heartedness.

I know what he did was wrong. I don't condone his reaction in any way. But I can't help but feel his anguish of losing his mom and then being kicked out of the only home he's known his entire life. I cried for months after my grandmother died and same when my cats died too. I can't imagine the grief I would feel losing my mom who I'm very close to and taking care of as she ages. He obviously was the primary caregiver to his mom during her old age. She passed away at 95yo. (emphasis mine)

SYOSSET, Long Island (WABC) -- Five people were found dead at a home on Long Island, officials say.

Police responded to the home on Wyoming Court in Syosset just before noon on Sunday.

As a crime scene unit processes the grim scene, neighbors wonder how the quiet cul-de-sac could be shattered by something so violent.

"I've been here for almost 50 years, so it's terrible to hear something like this," said Gary Duchnowski.

A few heard the gunfire, and police arrived just before noon to find one man dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound on the lawn. The other four victims were found inside the home.

"At first I heard it was a murder suicide, and that's pretty bad. And then I heard four people murdered and then a suicide, so it was something you don't hear very often, let alone something in your own town," said Mike Steffens.

As Nassau County Homicide Squad headed into what is expected to be a long night, neighbors were putting some of the pieces together.

Some neighbors knew the mother and son who lived in the home for decades - but everything changed last week when the 95-year-old woman died.

"The mother who owned the house recently passed away. Family was in, and from what I understand is there was possibly a dispute," said Corey Margulefsky.

In fact, neighbors say a real estate agent arrived to help the family in town take the next steps to list the house, but it was already a crime scene.

One neighbor told Eyewitness News that the idea of losing the house was just too hard for the son, who had lived there all his life.

LiveNOW from FOX published August 25, 2024: New York murder-suicide: 5 dead on Long Island.

The Nassau County Police Department is investigating an apparent murder-suicide on Long Island that killed five people on Sunday, officials said. It happened at a home located at 76 Wyoming Ct. in Syosset. Detectives found a man outside the house who sustained an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Officials said that four other victims were discovered inside the house dead. A Nassau County Police Medic then pronounced all five victims dead. Police have not shared the ages of the victims, their relationship with the gunman, or a possible motive in the shooting. One couple in the neighborhood told FOX 5 NY's Kendall Green that the man behind the shooting was in his 60s and recently lost his mom who was in her 90s. They said that the two of them had been living in the neighborhood for years, and he took her death really hard. They said he was distraught, but of course they didn't see it going this far. The five victims have not been identified. The investigation remains ongoing.

SYOSSET, N.Y. – Five people were killed Sunday in an apparent murder-suicide on Long Island, a source told CBS News New York.

The Nassau County Police Department said officers were sent to a home on Wyoming Avenue in Syosset just before noon for a report of shots fired.

When they arrived on the scene, officers found a man outside the home who had suffered an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said. According to police, four other victims were found inside the home.

All five people were pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Neighbors say alleged gunman killed siblings days after mother's death

Neighbors told CBS News New York's Derick Waller the man found dead outside the home had lived there with his mother his entire life. They also said the man had mental health issues and occasional public outbursts.

"I know how he screams when he would have an episode," neighbor Wendy Paisler said.

According to neighbors, the man's 95-year-old mother died a few days ago, and he and his siblings were trying to figure out what to do with the house. Neighbors said they saw the alleged gunman's siblings, who were in town for the mother's funeral, walk into the home Sunday.

"He just snapped, I think, because ... his mom left the house, and the four siblings ... they were gonna sell the house. And he's lived there his whole life and he really needed support, emotional support. And I think he just, he snapped," Paisler said.

Police have not yet revealed a motive or confirmed the victims' names, but they did say the shooting was isolated and there is no danger to the community.

"They got to do something about those guns. Everybody has them," one neighbor said.

"Very sad for his family, and even for him. You've got to look at it and go, he was petrified, I think. From what the neighbors say, he sounded petrified from being out on the street," Paisler said.

The investigation is ongoing. The Nassau County Police Department is planning to hold a press conference Monday.
