In the midst of political wrangling over a tactic Arizona Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs used to fill top executive branch decisions, a Republican feuding with Hobbs was briefly appointed as acting governor.

In a Wednesday post on X, Arizona Treasurer Kimberly Yee announced that the order of succession in Arizona had reached down to her.

“I have been notified that I will be serving as Acting Governor beginning later this evening until mid-morning tomorrow,” a release posted with her tweet said.

Yee quickly referenced an ongoing drama over who can lead Arizona’s various departments.

“While I am pleased to step into this role, I will refrain from naming directors to the 13 agencies that currently have vacancies and will not call the Arizona Legislature into session to confirm them. That being said, I do hope when the Governor returns to Arizona, she will promptly name qualified directors to these important state agencies and remove the legal uncertainty that exists for all of the regulatory actions taken by the agencies.

“I expect to see a swift resolution to this matter, so we can get back to getting the work done for Arizona taxpayers. The people of Arizona deserve leaders who follow the rule of law,” she wrote.

Hobbs was in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday after a trip to Taiwan, according to the Arizona Republic.

The Arizona Capitol Times said Secretary of State Adrian Fontes was scheduled to leave Arizona Wednesday night, triggering Yee’s stint as acting governor because Attorney General Kris Mayes is also out of the state.

Yee’s temporary ascension came after she put her foot down on appointments made by Hobbs. Yee barred two people Hobbs named as “executive deputy directors” from sitting on the State Board of Investment.

Yee called their status “murky” and said Hobbs was “thumbing her nose at the law.”

Without Senate-confirmed individuals heading agencies “then we really do have some rogue people sitting in top positions, making executive decisions, and who are not elected, for a very long time,” she said.

“We expect Treasurer Yee to stop playing political games,” said Christian Slater, a press aide for Hobbs.

Yee’s action stems from a series of maneuvers involving the people Hobbs appointed to serve as directors of various state agencies. Thirteen Hobbs nominees have not been confirmed, in some cases with the Committee on Director Nominations saying they should not be confirmed.

Although they could remain in office for a year as interim directors, Hobbs decided on another gambit. She withdrew the nominations and then made Ben Henderson, interim director of the Department of Administration, the interim director of other agencies.

He then named “executive deputy directors” who would actually run the agencies. Such positions do not exist under state law.

Yee blew the whistle on the tactic.

“We received legal counsel that this is an area that would not be abiding by the law which requires the director of an agency to sit as members of the board legally,” she said.
First of all it is not a conspiracy "theory" when actual news is being reported. She did step down for more than 24 hours according to the message above by the Arizona Treasurer. It is a fact that this happened abruptly. Look at the article below from a far-Left biased reporter falsely reporting this is all rumor and conjecture from Fox News. What the reporter in the article below think that "unknown reason" means? Here the reporter lays out utter lies about their whereabouts and that it was all planned. (emphasis mine)

Fox News stirred up conspiracy theories online Thursday with a report on how state Treasurer Kimberly Yee was named acting governor after what Fox called the “mysterious disappearance of Gov. Katie Hobbs.”

The erroneous news report, later changed by Fox, followed a false rumor that went viral on social media earlier this week that Hobbs had been “indicted” by the state Senate on charges related to conspiring with a Mexican drug cartel.

Fox didn't attempt to explain why it called Hobbs' temporary absence from the state a "disappearance" in its report, which was headlined "Arizona governor mysteriously steps down for one day." A message seeking comment from Fox wasn't immediately returned.

Hobbs didn’t disappear. She was in Washington D.C. Wednesday for a meeting about border issues with Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas following a week-long visit to Taiwan, an important Arizona trade ally. She flew back to the state Thursday to meet with President Joe Biden, who arrived Wednesday night for a visit that promoted his campaign messages.

Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes was acting governor while Hobbs was out of state, but he left the state Wednesday for a pre-planned trip to Washington D.C., where he’ll meet with congressional staff and members “about the need for federal funding for elections,” said Fontes’ spokesman, Paul Smith-Leonard.

State Attorney General Kris Mayes, next in the state’s line of succession, is also in Washington D.C. for “meetings” and will return Friday morning, said her spokesman, Richie Taylor.

That meant Yee, the treasurer, was acting governor for less than 24 hours.

State Republicans disavowed the widespread internet rumor of Hobbs’ “indictment” Monday, noting that the state Senate does not issue indictments.

Now stop and think for a moment, who is forcing their psycho far-Left Commie lunatic gender/pronoun totalitarian ideology on everybody? Hmm... they destroy a person's life for not agreeing with them, for speaking up against them, for pushing back and even have the person social media accounts suspended for not thinking like them. But we are somehow the "fascists"? They are even forcing their psycho far-Left sexual ideology on children as young as 3 in pre-K through 12th grade AND they are taking away parent's rights teaching children to hate their parents and to keep secrets from their parents. They believe a child has the mental capacity to understand puberty blockers will stunt the growth of their essential internal organs, in other words their bodies will not be fully developed, and sterlize them and a child is old enough to understand that cross sex hormones are irreversible and they will have their bodies altered their entire lives. Oh, and a child is old enough to understand the cross sex hormone side effects may cause them to commit suicide or become violent. BUT... we are somehow the "fascists"? (emphasis mine)
But somehow those who oppose her are the "fascists"? (emphasis mine)

Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs (D) reportedly reached out to Twitter in 2020 to censor users who criticized her 2017 posts uncovered by Breitbart News, in which she claimed former President Donald Trump had a “neo-nazi base.”

Days after the 2020 election, Breitbart News reported that Hobbs said Trump had a “neo-nazi base” while she was serving as a Democrat state senator in 2017. Hobbs’ tweet appeared to be a reaction to the false narrative that Trump praised neo-nazi rioters in Charlottesville.

“.@realDonaldTrump has made it abundantly clear he’s more interested in pandering to his neo-nazi base than being @POTUS for all Americans,” Hobbs posted at the time.

“The President is on the side of the freaking Nazis. Don’t just say stuff – DO SOMETHING,” she added.

“It took you a day and a half to figure this out? Also if you’re not condemning @POTUS for not condemning nazis, it’s just words,” she wrote in the tweets uncovered by Breitbart News.

Trump did, in fact, condemn the neo-Nazis on multiple occasions in the aftermath of the Charlottesville riots.

As Breitbart News detailed:
  • Aug. 12, 2017 Trump condemned “violence “on many sides” in Charlottesville after neo-Nazi and Antifa clashes
  • Aug. 14, 2017: Trump condemned “neo-Nazis, white supremacists, and other hate groups” in White House statement
  • Aug. 15, 2017: Trump condemned neo-Nazis “totally,” praised non-violent protesters “on both sides” of statue debate
On Thursday, Fox News revealed that Hobbs emailed Twitter in an attempt to censor critics who were upset with her posts about Trump and his base, relying on recently obtained emails.

As Fox News reported:
On Nov. 13, 2020, Hobbs emailed Twitter — using her official Arizona secretary of state email — asking the support team to take action against her online trolls.

Twitter asked for more information and for Hobbs to provide examples for her request, which Hobbs was unable to provide.
Hobbs’ request for Twitter to silence her critics came one day after Breitbart News published the report revealing her feelings about the Trump base.

In her response to Twitter, Hobbs claimed she was being harassed and abused by the “alt-right.”

“I am not sure I can provide the information you are asking for because I reported and then blocked multiple users at the same time,” Hobbs responded to Twitter. “The alt-right got a hold of a 3-year-old tweet on my account and have been sending harassing, abusive, and threatening tweets and direct messages for the last 2 days.”

AZCapitol’s Brian Anderson told Fox News the emails “leave no doubt that Katie Hobbs abused her position of power in government.”

“She violated the First Amendment rights of people across Arizona in order to suppress valid criticism and prop up her 2022 gubernatorial campaign,” Anderson said. “It’s imperative that further investigations be initiated to shine a light on just how far Hobbs’s unconstitutional censorship campaign went — and whether it continues today.”
