.@MayorOfLA's FY22-23 HOMELESSNESS BUDGET: $1,163,077,204 🏠
— Kenneth Mejia, CPA (@kennethmejiaLA) April 25, 2022
HIGHLIGHTS:
• $71M for Encampment Sweeps
• $8M for LAPD
• $32M for LAHSA
• $415M for Prop HHH PSH
• $130M for Homekey PSH
• $255M for Homekey Rnd 2@heidimarstonLA, Exec Director of @LAHomeless, resigned today.
We are coming for those in power who fail to address the root causes of homelessness and helping our unhoused neighbors get the housing and services that they need.
— Kenneth Mejia, CPA (@kennethmejiaLA) April 25, 2022
As City Controller, we will also provide detailed itemized spending so people can match the budget with actuals.
It is UNACCEPTABLE that Angelenos have no idea how their money is being actually spent in addressing homelessness (only getting a budget). This is why it's important to have a CPA and an outsider w/ accounting and auditing experience to dig into the books & CALL OUT THE CITY!

Back to Homelessness Budget:
— Kenneth Mejia, CPA (@kennethmejiaLA) April 25, 2022
What's part of $71M for Homeless Encampment Sweeps?
• CARE/CARE+: 303 positions to staff 22 CARE+ and 5 CARE teams
• CARE+ Expansion 2nd Shift: 11 positions
• CARE/CARE+ Program Support: 3 positions
• CARE Vehicles
Do sweeps end homelessness?🤔
Also part of the $1.16B budget is $8M for "CIRCLE: 24/7" : Homelessness Crisis Response Pilot:
— Kenneth Mejia, CPA (@kennethmejiaLA) April 25, 2022
A 24/7, community-based response and alternative to police for nonviolent emergencies involving people experiencing homelessness. Urban Alchemy has been contracted for CIRCLE.
What's interesting is that the @MayorOfLA mentioned that the LAPD receives a call every 4 minutes regarding someone experiencing homelessness.
— Kenneth Mejia, CPA (@kennethmejiaLA) April 25, 2022
Why do we only allocate $8M for alternatives to police (who have a $3.2B budget) for homelessness when they get a call every 4 minutes?
There should be $0 spent on sweeps because there shouldn’t be encampments allowed in the first place. We should have set up safe camping and parking locations years ago. Then that money could have been spent on addiction+mental health treatment instead of letting 5 a day die
— Venice Is Dying (@DyingVenice) April 25, 2022
Agree, w/ safe camping/parking is located unincorporated areas of LA County, not immediately close to residences, schools, parks, beaches or businesses. Should have porta potties, showers, trash services,EMTs & security on site, crisis teams,Narcan, service provider & bus access.

Every dollar we invest from HHH into housing is leveraged 4-5 times by state, federal and private dollars. This is a good investment and should continue, not end because the cost per unit is high says @MayorOfLA. We hope to continue housing production with @UnitedToHouseLA
— Move LA Transit (@MoveLATransit) April 13, 2022
$1 billion of Prop HHH’s total spending will go to “soft costs,” non-construction activities such as development fees, financing, consultants public outreach. City Controller Ron Galperin said an unusually high 35 to 40% of the spending was on “soft costshttps://t.co/Tf0ZB9F0x6
— Nick Capet | Political Accountability Historian (@justpersnickety) July 6, 2021
When does the feckless spending stop? Correct me if I'm wrong here, but @MayorOfLA just requested an additional $1Billion, on top of an already approved measure HHH ($1.2Billion). https://t.co/KtRfoGc2kz

Holy shit!!! $830k per unit!!! Worse than we could’ve even imagined. pic.twitter.com/YNFsWLynwe

No wonder @mikebonin withdrew from re-election. Unrelenting mental depression or an 8% approval rating would only get worse as government mismanagement turns on politicians. @MikeBoninLA got out in time to enjoy a six figure pension for decades to come. Feel better Mike.

#LA spending up to $837,000 to house a single #homeless person while its Councilmembers are paid the highest salaries of any council nationwide. https://t.co/DicAzOTMhr

Garcetti doesn’t think it’s his problem to solve. That should tell you everything. He only sees himself as Santa Claus for developers looting the taxpayer of $1.2 billion HHH funds to build million dollar condos for homeless people.

Housing is a right, not a privilege.
— MayorOfLA (@MayorOfLA) March 1, 2022
HHH provides Angelenos in need with a home to call their own and resources to be able to stay afloat.
By the end of this year, HHH will have produced 2,507 more units ready for tenants to move in.
HHH works. pic.twitter.com/E0ouvTPzNV
Just more money laundering by the political class
— Trimfeast (@TrimFeast) March 1, 2022
🚨👇 THIS IS SARCASM TO GARCETTI'S OBSCENE STATEMENT 👇🚨Cool only 57,493 to go just to meet TODAY’s demand. As the controller has been pointing out for 3 years now, HHH is NOT working. LA’s politicians need to start operating in reality. Your willful denial of shelter and treatment is killing people. https://t.co/pSGjQzmXkT

Cool. I'd like a house in Pacific Palisades. Near Feinstein's. Ocean view a plus. 🤣
— John Ballew (@JohnBallew17) March 1, 2022
So I can quit work and you’ll give me a house?? Who pays for it? That’s awesome!
— The Yellow King (@TwitasticOne) March 1, 2022
If housing is a right I shall cease paying rent immediately. You don't pay for something that is your right. The Landlord has zero chance of evicting me as I have the Mayor of Los Angeles on my side stating clearly this is my right!! Bravo Mayor! thank you!! @PropertyMgrLA
— John Koenig PhD (@sid_sycamore) March 1, 2022
No one should be forced to pay rent, in a fair and just society you deserve equal land as Ted Turner and the 10 largest landholders.
— William L. Berggren (@sunmoonbuffalo) March 2, 2022
Exactly right! I'm hoping @PropertyMgrLA recognize this fact and that they will connect with @MayorOfLA and support their tenants not paying any more rent. All the people in our building are meeting tonight to agree to withhold rent. It is our right!
— John Koenig PhD (@sid_sycamore) March 2, 2022
No they own the building and you gave the landlord pseudo ownership of your land as long as you choose to live there. You should be given a free lease on a 2000 square foot lot and a free trailer as compensation for your rights being violated. No one should be forced to pay rent.
