UTLA is calling the school reopening proposal put forward by Gov. Newsom & CA Democrats....racist.
— Bill Melugin (@BillFOXLA) March 2, 2021
With recall pressure looming, seems as if Newsom is going to have to take UTLA head on, or he risks LA schools being closed until the fall & alienating a massive amount of parents. https://t.co/w2aliesxWF
TONIGHT: Some black parents in South LA are outraged after hearing UTLA's president say that wealthy parents are behind push to reopen LA schools, & that reopening now is racist. They tell me she does not speak for them & they're holding a reopening rally on Sat. in Watts @FOXLA pic.twitter.com/zdNeNYve0N

Lamar Freeman has been a coach of LA Rampage, a youth football team in Watts, since 2011. He says every parent he talks to wants their kids back in school & UTLA's comments "sounded like an excuse". He says prior to Zoom learning, his team had 80% honor roll rate. Now 20% @FOXLA pic.twitter.com/sZo80wpSW1

We reached out to UTLA for a response to some of the blowback to President Cecily Myart-Cruz's comments last night. They told us that Pew Research polling results mirror what she said, that white parents are primarily behind the reopening push. Full story 10pm on @FOXLA pic.twitter.com/pDDhaNAP0Y

NEW: Miryam Qudrat is accusing UTLA of conducting racial opposition research on parents who speak to press about wanting schools to reopen after she received an email from a UTLA researcher asking if she's Iranian/how she racially identifies after she spoke to L.A. Times. @FOXLA pic.twitter.com/3yzSpuovyA

Qudrat points to this Facebook post from UTLA President Cecily Myart-Cruz, where she claims UTLA has been stalked on social media by "wealthy white and middle eastern parents."
— Bill Melugin (@BillFOXLA) March 4, 2021
Qudrat is outraged, and feels she was racially targeted by UTLA for being Middle Eastern. @FOXLA pic.twitter.com/mNPj8IBNFC
We reached out to UTLA for comment, inquiring as to why they are asking parents how they racially identify, what their class is, etc, after they speak to the media. We received this response. @FOXLA pic.twitter.com/BYGcnypwPc

Qudrat, who has a 7th grader in LAUSD, is outraged. She feels UTLA is trying to pin white & Middle Eastern families against Black & Latino families.
— Bill Melugin (@BillFOXLA) March 4, 2021
"Their conclusion is if you want schools to reopen right now, then you are racist," she tells me.
Story with her at 10pm @FOXLA pic.twitter.com/lyWZ9ZBKvD
NEW: UTLA teachers begin union voting today on support for a return to in-person schooling. One UTLA teacher just sent me his “no” vote, meaning he wants to return to physical class. He says many union members do NOT agree w/ leadership.
— Bill Melugin (@BillFOXLA) March 1, 2021
“Just give me my keys” he told me @FOXLA pic.twitter.com/Mc1vAKv3qP
UTLA is doing a great job making the case why expanding school choice is becoming an attractive option for parents. #REOPENSCHOOLS https://t.co/MfJhpPfYYI

Parents have also started an online petition to call for the resignation of UTLA’s president. We’ve been reaching out to the union all day, no response, and they’ve blocked yours truly on Twitter. 🙃 pic.twitter.com/ehYMzL4kIG

Teachers Unions: *keep public schools closed for nearly a year*
— Corey A. DeAngelis (@DeAngelisCorey) March 1, 2021
Families: *pull kids out of public schools*
Legislators: *introduce bills to fund students instead of systems*
Teachers Unions: pic.twitter.com/8wmJnaxku2
UPDATE 3/4/21 at 6:36pm: Added info below. This is so important to me right now! The national average cost per student, per year to go to public school is over $12,000

I want options that aren't controlled by the Teachers Unions.
CA government schools want kids barcoded and subjected to totally irrational fears.

It’s time for taxpayers to directly fund students/families rather than corrupt educational systems. pic.twitter.com/HZ9DaPBfuY
