MANCHESTER, N.H. — The woman accused of helping disgraced billionaire Jeffrey Epstein lure children to various homes to be sexually abused has been granted a delay in her first court appearance in New York.

Because of COVID-19 concerns, Ghislaine Maxwell will appear via video on July 14.

Maxwell was transferred by the U.S. Marshals Service to New York from New Hampshire on Monday.

Nick Willard, the U.S. marshal for the district of New Hampshire, was responsible for keeping her unharmed and in good health after her arrest in Bradford. He told WMUR the worldwide attention paid to case didn't bother him.

“My memory of this whole thing will be towards those victims and when I have seen some of the interviews with some of these victims and how emotional they are with this arrest, I am proud that we were part of it,” Willard said.

Maxwell, 58, has been indicted on conspiracy to entice minors, transport of minors across state lines for sex abuse purposes and perjury.

According to the Associated Press, prosecutors said they plan to ask that Maxwell be kept incarcerated pending trial on the grounds that she has the money, the overseas connections and the incentive to flee.

In an indictment unsealed last week, prosecutors relied on statements by three women who alleged they were recruited by Maxwell and sexually abused by Epstein from 1994 through 1997. The court papers alleged that the abuse began when one of them was as young as 14 and occurred at residences in Palm Beach, Florida; Santa Fe, New Mexico, and London, the AP reported.

Maxwell has repeatedly denied wrongdoing and called some of the claims against her "absolute rubbish," the AP reported.

Jeffrey Epstein's longtime confidante Ghislaine Maxwell was transferred Monday to New York to face charges that she recruited women and girls, one as young as 14, for him to sexually abuse, the Bureau of Prisons confirmed.

Prosecutors have asked a judge to schedule a Friday court appearance in Manhattan federal court for for Maxwell, 58, who was arrested last week at a $1 million estate she had purchased in New Hampshire.

Maxwell, the daughter of British publishing magnate Robert Maxwell, was the former girlfriend and longtime close associate of Epstein, who killed himself in a Manhattan jail last August while he awaited trial on federal sex trafficking charges.

Maxwell has been indicted on multiple charges, including that she conspired to entice girls as young as 14 to engage in illegal sex acts with Epstein from 1994 through 1997.

Several of Epstein's victims have described Maxwell as his chief enabler, recruiting and grooming young girls for abuse. She has denied wrongdoing and called claims against her "absolute rubbish."

In a letter to a judge Sunday, prosecutors said they have communicated with Maxwell's defense lawyer, Christian Everdell, who would like a Friday bail hearing where she will be arraigned.

Prosecutors have said Maxwell "poses an extreme risk of flight." Maxwell has three passports, is wealthy with lots of international connections, and has "absolutely no reason to stay in the United States and face the possibility of a lengthy prison sentence," they wrote in a memo.

She is currently being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.
