A man and a woman have been arrested after authorities discovered thousands of bullets and gun components in a number of suspicious parcels and at their premises.

Customs officers at Asia Airfreight Terminal in Chek Lap Kok alerted police on Monday after finding about 3,400 rounds of .22 calibre ammunition hidden inside three parcels containing fan heaters.

The address on the parcels led authorities to the couple’s Tuen Mun warehouse and their Lok Ma Chau residence, where a further 3,000 rounds of the ammunition and components for five handguns were also seized.

The 41-year-old man and the 44-year-old woman, who claimed to be logistics businesspeople, were arrested for unlicensed possession of arms and ammunition.

Police said they were investigating the relationship between the pair, but confirmed they did not have triad backgrounds.

New Territories South regional crime unit is investigating.
