Maybe they should have had a beer summit first.

Ireland Prime Minister Enda Kenny visited President Obama at the White House for St. Patrick’s Day only to be embarrassed by what appeared to be an epic snub.

As cameras snapped, Obama turned away from the Taoiseach and left him hanging during a clear attempt at a handshake.

Maybe Obama was disappointed in the thoughtful gift presented to his family by Kenny, a handmade book containing a special collection of W.B. Yeats poems. Not as classy as the iPod Obama gave Queen Elizabeth in 2009?

Independent IE reported:
The Irish Nobel Laureate also had an influence on the annual gift of a Waterford Crystal bowl of shamrock as the crystal piece was engraved with lines from one of Yeats’ best-loved poems ‘He Wishes for the Cloths of Heaven’.

The twist on the traditional gift coincides with the global celebrations marking the 150th anniversary of the poet’s birth.

Both US President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden each received the beautiful hand-printed, hand-bound book of the Yeats’ poems, while Obama’s two teenage daughters Sasha and Malia each received two smaller books containing quotes from the life and works of the Irish Nobel poet.
