Hamas has been at war with Israel ever since taking power in the Gaza Strip following Israel’s pull-out back in 2005.

The organization, which is considered to be a terrorist entity officially in Europe and the U.S., has been locked in indirect negotiations with Israel in Cairo for over a week. However, it has broken the latest ceasefire agreement by firing rockets on the Jewish state earlier today.

But how can Israel, a democratic state which holds human life and western values dear, negotiate a deal of any kind with a viciously extreme terrorist group which aligns itself with other radical Islamic groups such as the Muslim brotherhood and ISIS?

If you look at the official Hamas Charter, which is translated into English on various websites, you might be surprised to read what you see there.

Right from the get-go it is patently obvious what Hamas wants, and that isn’t peace, of any sort with Israel, which it doesn’t recognize as the homeland of the Jewish people. The charter is long and detailed and is peppered with Islamic sources from the Koran which extoll the virtues of death and suffering.

We have taken a few excerpts from the Hamas Charter, quoted below, which offer a good insight into the kind of negotiation partner Israel is dealing with in order to bring peace and quiet to its citizens as well as to the Palestinian people.

The introduction to the Hamas Charter is interesting as it talks of resistance and in particular its violent struggle, not just against Israel, but against Jews globally:
“This is the Charter of the Islamic Resistance (Hamas) which will reveal its face, unveil its identity, state its position, clarify its purpose, discuss its hopes, call for support to its cause and reinforcement, and for joining its ranks. For our struggle against the Jews is extremely wide-ranging and grave, so much so that it will need all the loyal efforts we can wield, to be followed by further steps and reinforced by successive battalions from the multifarious Arab and Islamic world, until the enemies are defeated and Allah’s victory prevails.”
Not exactly reconciliatory words, or as the British would say, “it’s just not cricket.”

So how can anyone negotiate deals when the very charter of their opponent openly calls for the total annihilation of their people, wherever they may be?

Let’s take a look at article one from the charter which discusses, in detail, the basic ideology of Hamas.

Article One: The Ideological Aspects:
“The Islamic Resistance Movement draws its guidelines from Islam; derives from it its thinking, interpretations and views about existence, life and humanity; refers back to it for its conduct; and is inspired by it in whatever step it takes.”
This is interesting, as it clearly notes that Hamas is driven by their fanatical interpretation of the Koran and, like ISIS, wishes to impose its form of medieval Islam on Muslims as well as the rest of the world.

Article three of the Hamas Charter states that the whole structure of the movement is based on Muslims who are devoted to God and are prepared to die waging a Jihad (holy war) on their “enemies.”

Article Three: Structure and Essence
“The basic structure of the Islamic Resistance Movement consists of Muslims who are devoted to Allah and worship Him verily [as it is written]: “I have created Man and Devil for the purpose of their worship” [of Allah]. Those Muslims are cognizant of their duty towards themselves, their families and country and they have been relying on Allah for all that. They have raised the banner of Jihad in the face of the oppressors in order to extricate the country and the people from the [oppressors’] desecration, filth and evil.”
Moving down the charter it is plain to see that no western minded democratic government could possibly wish to achieve anything at the negotiating table with the likes of Hamas which only uses diplomacy as a means to an end and not as a way to actually compromise for the best interests of their own people, let alone their enemy.

Article Eight says it all, and is entitled: “The Slogan of the Hamas”

Article Eight: The Slogan of the Hamas
“Allah is its goal, the Prophet its model, the Qur’an its Constitution, Jihad its path and death for the case of Allah its most sublime belief.”
“Jihad its path and death for the case of Allah its most sublime belief!” How can anyone hope to negotiate with that kind of primitive and uncompromising thinking?

What is even more interesting is article thirteen of the charter which talks openly about how peace initiatives should only be used as a trick to gain political goals in order to forward the resistance.

Article Thirteen: Peaceful Solutions, [Peace] Initiatives and International Conferences
“[Peace] initiatives, the so-called peaceful solutions, and the international conferences to resolve the Palestinian problem, are all contrary to the beliefs of the Islamic Resistance Movement. Those conferences are no more than a means to appoint the nonbelievers as arbitrators in the lands of Islam. Since when did the Unbelievers do justice to the Believers? “And the Jews will not be pleased with thee, nor will the Christians, till thou follow their creed. Say: Lo! the guidance of Allah [himself] is the Guidance.”
The above excerpts are only a fraction of the hate-filled Hamas Charter which you can read for yourself, if you have a strong stomach, by clicking this link.

No matter which way you look at it. Israel is faced with a difficult problem. It could wipe out Hamas, and Gaza for that matter, in a very short time. The fact that it doesn’t just goes to show that, even though they could –they don't! If Hamas got its way it would mean the complete genocide of the Jewish people.

Apologists for Hamas. recognizing how damning this Charter is, attempt to dismiss its significance with a variety of excuses, counting on the fact that virtually all of those supporting Hamas have never actually READ the Charter!
