AFGHANISTAN: Senior Female Police Officer Shot Outside Her Home In Helmand Province

According to local authorities in southern Helmand province of Afghanistan, unknown gunmen shot and injured a senior female police officer in this province.

The officials further added that the incident took place early Sunday morning in Lashkargah district. The incident is followed months after the assassination of Islam Bibi, who was shot dead by unknown gunmen.

Provincial governor spokesman Omar Zwak confirming the report said, Negar, the top police officer of Helmand province was shot by unknown gunmen outside her home on Sunday.

Mr. Zwak further added that the assailant militants managed to flee the area after attacking police officer, Negar, who has been serving in Helmand police department for the past five years.

No group including the Taliban militants has so far claimed responsibility behind the incident. The assassination and kidnap attempt of female government officials is not rare.

Militants have recently attacked several female government officials, and kidnapped a female lawmaker Fareeba Kakar in eastern Ghazni province of Afghanistan, who was later released following prisoners exchange with the Afghan government.
