MUAR: Alert villagers helped save a 14-year-old in the nick of time from being raped by her cousin brother in a toilet at the empty Pagoh penghulu complex near here.

The girl, from an estate near Pagoh, was returning from school when her cousin, aged 17, came to fetch her on his motorcycle.

However, instead of sending her home, the cousin took her to the complex, saying some friends wanted to see her.

A community rehabilitation centre supervisor Fauziah Hassan became curious when she saw the motorcycle parked behind the complex, which has been empty after the death of Pagoh penghulu Abu Bakar Yaakub last year.

She asked a woman villager to check the complex.

The woman villager heard the girl's cries coming from the toilet and rushed in.

She alerted Fauziah who called the Pagoh police station.

Muar acting police chief Supt Shahadan Jaafar said Friday police found the boy and the crying girl inside the toilet and after questioning, arrested the boy.

"The girl was fortunate that some villagers were alert and acted fast and called the police. They managed to save her from being a rape victim," he said.
