NEW DELHI - Two cases of sexual assault, where one of the victims was eight-months-old while the other was 85-years-old, were reported in the last 24 hours from Nabi Karim and Seelampur areas, police said.
In the first incident, a 22-year-old man allegedly raped his relative's eight month old daughter after finding her alone in her house. The child's mother had gone to the market. The accused, Zahid, frequented the woman's house who lived alone with her daughter in Nabi Karima area in central Delhi.
The accused fled after raping the girl. The incident came to light when the child's mother returned home. A case under the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act has been registered and raids are being carried out by the police to trace the accused.
In the second incident, a 32-year-old man named Naseem, a resident of Seelampur in northeast Delhi, allegedly raped his 85-year-old grandmother under the influence of alcohol.
Police said the accused, who is absconding, was unemployed and an alcoholic. A case of rape has been registered and police are investigating the case. The condition of the woman is said to be serious.
