Our Hearts MUST Go On...

Today’s tragedy was heart-breaking on every level. My heart hurts when I think of the parents who lost their little ones today. I grieve for the lost innocence of the children who survived, but who may now have lifelong emotional scars from this experience. I feel deeply for the rescue workers, the other parents, and school employees. And I am praying for the little children and their teachers, who are with God and the angels now.
And my heart goes out to all of us, who feel helpless and out-of-control in a world that seems to host way too much evil. Because today’s tragedy was one of many. Last week, we had a gunman open fire in an Oregon mall. Last night, a knife-wielding man stabbed 22 children in an elementary school in China. And we’re still recovering from the shootings in Colorado and Norway...
People ask, “How could God allow this to happen?” and we recall how Free Will applies to all, including those who are possessed by evil forces. We experience the shock, disbelief, and anger that are normal and healthy responses to grief.
But we MUST take a healthy response to this and other crises, and not allow the darkness to dim our lights. At this time in 2012 when so many people fear the end of the world, fear is trying to gain a grip on the world. And we must be vigilant to not let it!
Darkness and light are two ends of the same pole, and our consciousness is either at the top end of the pole where it’s bright or the dark end of the pole. . . or somewhere in-between. When tragedy strikes, it’s normal to feel low and dark for a while. But we can’t allow this incident to push down the light that we came to earth to shine.
Your light is needed more now than ever before. If we allow this tragedy to dim our lights with fear or anger, then darkness will have won. Instead, let’s help each other to heal from this situation. Let’s get over this hump of the fear surrounding 2012 together.
Yes, the world seems to be absolutely insane right now. Yes, it seems like no one can be trusted. Yes, it seems like our planet is spiraling out-of-control toward a very dark end.
But the truth is that we collectively can choose a better course for ourselves by keeping our light bright. Please put your focus upon loving your family and friends, spending time in nature, engaging in meaningful projects, listening to music, doing yoga, taking a walk, calling a good friend, reading an uplifting book, journaling, volunteering, doing something creative, sharing a meal with someone, or watching an inspiring movie.
Love IS the only power that exists in the universe, in spiritual truth. The darkness that has influenced those who harm children (or adults, or animals, or the environment, etc.) is cowardly. That’s why it picks on children, animals, and disadvantaged adults. We can call its bluff by shining even brighter.
Our hearts must go on. Your heart, and its healing light, is needed right now.
We honor the lives of the children by vowing to make this world a better place for other children. And it begins with you and with me. This is your purpose: to love.
