ALOR SETAR - Police have arrested a 28-year-old man to facilitate investigations into the death of a two-year-old boy in Kampung Berjaya here who was believed to have been abused.
The man, who works as a welder, has been remanded until Dec 24 for investigations to be carried out under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
Kota Setar CID chief Deputy Supt. V. Saravanan said the post-mortem report showed that Muhammad Faiz Iqhmal Iskandar had bruises all over his body and private parts and injuries to his internal organs.
He said the toddler died due to blunt force trauma to his body.
He said the man was arrested at 3am on Monday at a friend's house in Kubang Rotan, about 12km from here.
It was reported that Muhammad Faiz Iqhmal died at 3.30pm on Monday at a private clinic after he allegedly fell down the stairs at his mother's rented house in Kampung Berjaya.
The boy was under the care of the mother's male friend during the incident.
The boy's mother Norhafiza Othman, 25, said she had known the man for nine months ago and he had taken care of Muhammad Faiz Iqhmal few times before.
Meanwhile Wanita Umno chief Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil who visited the family want public to lodge report if they suspected abuse cases occurred in their neighborhood.
She said if they are afraid to come forward to lodge report, they could also call up talian Nur at 15999.
