For years now, the Taliban insurgency has forced women into fear and suppression.
In a country where women still fear to stand up for their rights, Malala Yousafzai is a symbol
of hope and courage. She is
the lone voice in a crowd of
fear and silence.
By standing up against one of the most cruel and irrational extremist group, she has paved way for other people in her country to stand up against the atrocities of the Taliban. Her desire for attaining education, which made her attend school
in spite of the fact that her hometown Swat was infested with militants at that time,
is an inspiration to people across
the globe.
She has shown us that we
are never too young to make
a difference. I believe persistence in achieving her cause
deserves the support of
people, government and
world organisations.

On October 9, 2012, Malala Yousafzai was shot in the head and neck in an assassination attempt by Taliban gunmen while returning home on a school bus. In the days immediately following the attack, she remained unconscious and in critical condition, but later her condition improved enough for her to be sent to a hospital in the United Kingdom for intensive rehabilitation. On October 12, a group of 50 Islamic clerics in Pakistan issued a fatwฤ against those who tried to kill her, but the Taliban reiterated its intent to kill Yousafzai and her father, Ziauddin.
