Kosovo's parliament elected a woman police commander with no political experience as president on Thursday, avoiding snap elections after the previous head of state was forced to quit.
Atifete Jahjaga became the third person to hold the job since September in a country beset with economic problems and political instability.
Just a year older than the minimum age of 35 to serve as president, she is the first female leader in Kosovo's three years of independence.
