SULAIMANIYAH, Iraq - A car bomb outside a restaurant in the northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk has killed one person and wounded at least 16 others.
Kirkuk police Col. Anwar Qadir said all the victims were civilians in the vicinity of the restaurant when the car exploded around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
An official at Kirkuk public hospital confirmed the casualties. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk to the media.
The blast also damaged four cars and the Kurdish restaurant, which is located in an Arab neighbourhood in Kirkuk.
Ethnic tensions between Kurds and Arabs in Kirkuk have been simmering for years, as both sides claim the disputed city as theirs.
