The Ten Commandments part 3 of 3

The MOST Important Commandment

34. But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees with his reply, they met together to question him again. 35. One of them, an expert in religious law, tried to trap him with this question: 36. “Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?”

37. Jesus replied, “‘You MUST love the Lord your God with ALL your heart, ALL your soul, and ALL your mind.’ 38. This is the first and greatest commandment. 39. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40. The ENTIRE LAW and ALL the demands of the prophets are based on THESE TWO commandments.”

LOVE Fulfills the Law

8. Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law. 9. The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,” and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” 10. Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.

14. For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”

11. For this is the message you heard from the beginning: We should love one another.

12. Jesus said, "So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets."
