EL MIRAGE, Ariz. – A couple is facing child abuse after police found their six kids living amongst cockroaches and rotting food.
El Mirage police responded to the 11500 block of Windrose Driver Sunday at about 7 p.m. in reference to a verbal argument between a husband and wife.
While speaking to the mother, Sabrina Garcia, officers saw children through the window and, while doing an assessment of the home, found them living in what they described as deplorable and unhealthy living conditions.
One of the children had cockroaches crawling on his leg. The carpet was reportedly black with dirt, food, trash and bugs.
Police say there were a couple of items in the refrigerator but nothing was edible.
The bedrooms were littered with clothes, toys, food and officers found a glass marijuana water pipe in one of the closets.
When asked about their living conditions, Sabrina Garcia reportedly blamed her kids and said they did not clean up after themselves.
Both Sabrina and her husband Richard Garcia face six counts of child abuse. The six children are in custody of Child Protective Services.
