GREENVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) -- Lee County land and business owner Mitchell Scruggs loses a decade old lawsuit against corporate giant Monsanto.
A federal jury awarded Monsanto at least $8.8 million dollars in damages Tuesday.
Monsanto sued Scruggs over the SAVING and REPLANTING of soybean and cotton SEEDS that contained Monsanto's patented gene.
Scruggs attorney Jim Waide of Tupelo said, "The monetary damages could be more. The attorneys fees have not been assessed and the Federal Court Judge in Greenville has the authority to increase the damages."
Waide said Scruggs will appeal if he can raise the money to post an appeal bond.
