I just came across a group on Facebook that actually calls themselves "Independent Voter". Their profile page reads "Drop the political parties and think for yourself! Think INDEPENDENT!!!" I became a fan of the group thinking it was exactly what it described itself to be. Well, after reading the comments, the news articles they posted mainly from Huffington Post and then going to their website I quickly realized it was NOT an INDEPENDENT-MINDED organization as they claim to be. I wrote the following comment on their profile page:
"I am beginning to wonder if this really is an INDEPENDENT FORUM? Why? Because you are trying very hard to CONTROL individual expression! This forum could very well have been created by an Obama supporter to attract the Independent voters and attempt to INFLUENCE them with LEFT leaning news feeds and idiology! Nice try!"
Right now more than ever before we must have our antennae up at all times. The website is called "California Independent Voter Network (CIVN). I read most of their articles and discovered they were mostly supporting socialized legislation. They appear to be a far-left leaning group calling themselves independent. Please don't be fooled.
I had a great discussion with my mom over the weekend and this just so happened to be the very topic! I'd like to share the analogy I used to describe how our government and the media have been trying to influence the public. I used my couch to describe the subject/debate/conversation. The color of my couch is red wine. Here is what I said:
I told my mom, let's say I'm the government and the media. I pointed to the couch and said to her the couch is blue. She replied no it's not, it's red wine. I repeated myself and said no the color is blue. I replied to her very confidently and convincingly, mom the couch is blue. I told my mom that's how they start. To further my point I said, then they bring in another one of their people and ask them to describe the color of the couch and the other person confirms that the couch is blue making you feel like you're nuts for seeing red wine. Now imagine dozens of people telling you the couch is blue, when YOU KNOW you are clearly seeing a couch the color of red wine.
If you are an INDEPENDENT THINKER however, you are going to pause a moment and suddenly realize that you are going to ask one of YOUR FRIENDS what color they see the couch to be. You bring your friend over, someone you know will be honest with you, point to the couch and ask them what color do they see. Your FRIEND CONFIRMS what you had been seeing ALL ALONG, red wine! Your friend helps you confirm that you are NOT going nuts and it was the other party/group that had been TRYING TO DECEIVE you the whole time. We really do need to sharpen our independent critical thinking skills and avoid getting CONNED by individuals or groups that have ill-intentions.
Sometimes I feel like I'm in a Twilight Zone episode watching the news programs and listening to the forums that keep trying to collaboratively convince me the couch is BLUE! Hoping I will just cave in, give up my crazy notion that I see a red wine couch and simply take their word for it. ~ NEVER ~ For I always try to follow my intuition, my instinct, that still small voice within that tells me something doesn't feel right or something doesn't sound right. That is the SENSE everybody keeps referring to as COMMON because we are ALL born with it and many CHOOSE to ignore it or have disconnected somehow.
That my friends is precisely what formed the T.E.A party... Independent, Democratic and Republican Americans hearing, seeing and feeling the same thing!
