President Obama has scheduled a 6 hour bipartisan health care summit today. This will be televised LIVE on C-SPAN starting at 7am (PST) to 1pm (PST). This will be the first time the Republicans are being asked to share their health care reform ideas with the Democrats. The Republicans have been closed out of the coversation because the Democrats held a SUPER MAJORITY and still do for the most part. From the start, the Democrats in both the House and the Senate have felt they didn't need the Republicans and drafted the bills themselves. The Democrats cut so many back room deals in order to get the 60 Democratic votes needed to pass the bill. The crap hit the fan when these pay for play deals were made PUBLIC. This is precisely why Republican Scott Brown was voted into office in Massachusetts as Senator replacing the late Democratic Senator Ted Kennedy who held that position since 1962! The Massachusetts election left the Democrats with 59 votes shy of the 60 votes needed to pass the UGLY Health Care Reform bills drafted by the Democrats. The Democrats have made Health Care Reform a PARTISAN ISSUE from the start.
Now what causes me some confusion is this, why would the Democrats namely Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House and Harry Reid, Senate Majority Leader be touting the "Nuclear Option" meaning reconciliation. They have been taking this stance from the time President Obama announced this bipartisan summit until the day before the actual summit? Why? Reconciliation means they are ALREADY planning on passing whichever whatever Health Care Reform bill they can piece together with ONLY 51 votes as opposed to the 60 majority votes needed. If you were their boss as President Obama is suppose to be, wouldn't you ask them to cool it, tone it down, chill until AFTER the summit? Their actions are only hurting him more. Why? Well simply because he is showing us that he cannot LEAD.
Now ask yourselves please, if President Obama was GENUINELY SINCERE about wanting to incorporate Republican health care reform ideas and hold a MEANINGFUL BIPARTISAN SUMMIT, why would the Democrats be threatening to pass a bill ANYWAY without Republican input or votes?! WHY? As far as I see it, this 6 hour long meeting today is a complete WASTE OF TIME! President Obama doesn't give a damn and neither do the Democrats. Now I'm speaking from the heart. You need to stop and look at this picture OBJECTIVELY and ask yourselves WHY? The Democrats are just playing a GAME at our expense.
All they want is to claim a VICTORY for President Obama! I'll tell you right now folks, if any of the bills that are on the table pass as they are written or even piece meal, Health Care Reform will most certainly NOT BE A VICTORY for the American public. Don't you think Americans deserve the BEST and not just ANY health care reform bill? Most especially if it is a bill as gargantuan as health care? Don't you think it should be done right and not half-ass? Isn't that what we pay them for to do what's RIGHT for the American public and not themselves? We are AMERICANS FIRST before ANY PARTY! That's how Washington should be thinking.
Now I'm not a Republican, but I thank God the Republicans are NOT voting for either the House or the Senate Health Care Reform bills in their current form. If you would take the time to READ THE BILLS, you would NOT be so EAGER to have President Obama sign either of them into LAW!

Sort of hard to lead when the only response has been no.
I do not understand pre-existing conditions? It was made up by the insurance companies to make money. I don't understand why an American goes bankrupt because of medical bills.
I found your site on alphainventions.com
Like I said in my piece I'm grateful that the Republicans have said no to both the house and senate HCR bills in their current form.
If you have read the bills, you would not be so eager to have President Obama sign either of them into law.
Pre-existing conditions has to do with RISK and liability. The cost for those folks versus what they actually pay in premiums would mean an immediate loss for the insurance company. It would make absolute sense to POOL ALL those with pre-existing conditions and create a plan sole for them.
The insurance actuaries can evaluate the risk pool and quantify the premiums accordingly.
PJ, I do want health care reform. I just want the BEST for Americans. We deserve that, afterall we are the ones who are going to be footing the bill...
All of these politicians will be gone and we're going to be left holding whatever bag they throw at us.
Thank you PJ for taking the time to write down your thoughts on this subject. It's good to exchange ideas.
I pray that we do get genuine Health Care Reform. This can only happen if ALL politicians put their inflated EGO's aside and conscientiously work toward honest beneficial changes.
