MILFORD — A 26-year-old Milford man was charged with child abuse on Tuesday, after an investigation revealed that he abused a toddler over a long period of time.
An investigation into the matter was launched on Dec. 11.
DSP investigators learned that a then 20-month-old boy was taken to Milford Memorial Hospital on Dec. 10 and treated for broken leg.
Based on the nature of the injury, the child was transferred to A.I. DuPont Hospital where further examinations were completed. Doctors found that the little boy had also suffered fractured ribs and other injuries during his childhood.
It was determined that child sustained his injuries while in the care of his mother’s boyfriend, Darnell D. Waples, 26, Milford.
Waples surrendered to detectives on Tuesday and was charged with assault by abuse or neglect and endangering the welfare of a child, both felonies.
Waples was committed to the James Vaughn Correctional Institute in lieu of a $27,000 cash bail and ordered to have no contact with anyone under the age of 18.
