This is an interview with Shaikh Muhamed Yasir/ Ustadh Yasir, after his release from afghan prison. I have typed a transcript of this interview starting at 4:07 minutes to the end. Of course, you are more than welcome to watch this video interview in its entirety.

Interviewer: What is your opinion about your support of many of those who attribute themselves to Islamic Propagation and Scholarship to the idolic governments in the Islamic World in general and Afghanistan particularly?
Shaikh Muhamed Yasir: If the scholars do not take the correct stances and do not give true fatwas, then what is their benefit and role in the Islamic Ummah? A number of scholar came to me and debated with me in prison, exhausting me, telling me, "Take the license. You are under compulsion and the religion allows you to do so." I told them, "Yes, but if the scholar starts to take licenses, it may result in the altercation of the religion."
Take for example the stances of Imam Ahmed and Imam Abu Hanifah, may Allah have mercy on them. Even though according to the Habalis, taking licenses is preferred to the normal course of action. He himself did not take license in the matter of the creation of the Quran with the Mu'tazilah. He said, "If the ignorant people do not know and the scholars hide behind their words, then who will speak the truth?" This is the case today.
Who is giving the verdict of fighting jihad against America? Rather, the scholars are giving verdicts for the permissability of seeking their help, accepting them and showing affection to them. So we are in this situation today.
A similar case was that of Imam Abu Hanifah. He accepted imprisonment and torture because of his refusal of the post of judge. What did the rulers want from him? They wanted him to be a judge!
I advise the brothers, my brothers and my teachers who are elder and more knowledgeable than me, I advise them to be according to what the truth and knowledge requires from them. That they do not fear blame in matters of religion. Martyrdom is much better than the life of this world, and death must come to them; either they will be killed by falsehood and they will achieve martyrdom or the angels of death will take them. The result is the same, but they will never achieve martyrdom in this manner. Look at the humiliation which has come to them, those scholars, due to their shameful stances. Even the Americans mock and laugh at them.
I said to those scholars, right now we have a whole generation of youth willing to SACRIFICE THEMSELVES in martyrdom operations. If a young mujahid who does not have much knowledge is willing to sacrifice himself and blow himself up in the interest of the religion, why does the scholar not accept martyrdom for speaking the truth, and by that achieve the level of the leaders of the martyrs?
I suggest that there be a group of scholars and propagators who carry out martyrdom operations in the field of Islamic propagation and media by speaking the truth he should accept the price. I myself, in taking this stance, face death, assassination, and imprisonment for a second time and I accept this and regard it as a way to achieve martyrdom. Martyrdom is better than a life of humiliation.
Interviewer: Our Sheikh if we can ask you, what is the ruling of Jihad today in Afghanistan and the rest of the Muslim World?
Shaikh Muhamed Yasir: Jihad is a standing obligation until the Day of Resurrection. I lived with Sheikh Abdullah Azzam when he was writing his book. "Defense of the Islam lands is from the most important individual obligations." Which he endorsed with the signatures of the scholars of the Ummah. I attended its presentation to Sheikh Ibn Baz and the rest of the scholars before they signed it. This fatwa was agreed to, and none differed in it in the Jihad of Afghanistan. That the Jihad in Afghanistan is an individual obligation upon ALL MUSLIMS. Sheikh Abdullah Azzam, may Allah have mercy on him, took this fatwa and endorsed it with the signatures of most of those able in giving fatwas and sources of rulings and he compiled it into a book.
