One man from Illinois lost his coverage in the middle of chemotherapy because his insurer found that he hadn't reported gallstones that he didn't even know about. They delayed his treatment, and he died because of it.Oh really now, it is heartbreaking that ANYBODY would have to ENDURE that kind of treatment. This kind of treatment sounds much like what MEDICAID PATIENTS have to endure today!!! Many have to wait a year to get treated for cancer if they are lucky! I wish the media would search out American citizens on MEDICAID and ask them how this government-run insurance program treats them?
Another woman, from Texas, was about to get a double mastectomy when her insurance company canceled her policy because she forgot to declare a case of acne. By the time she had her insurance reinstated, her breast cancer had more than doubled in size.
That is heartbreaking, it is wrong, and no one should be treated that way in the United States of America.
President Obama quoted the late Ted Kennedy with this statement:
He never forgot the sheer terror and helplessness that any parent feels when a child is badly sick. And he was able to imagine what it must be like for those without insurance, what it'd be like to have to say to a wife or a child or an aging parent, "There is something that could make you better, but I just can't afford it."Fact #5: This leaves me to EMPHASIZE my final fact that EVERY CHILD IS COVERED IN AMERICA! "The Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) is a program administered by the United States Department of Health and Human Services that provides matching funds to states for health insurance to families with children. The program was designed with the intent to cover uninsured children in families with incomes that are modest but too high to qualify for Medicaid. This bill was passed during the Clinton administration that Hillary Clinton pioneered. Then on On February 4. 2009, President Obama signed the Children's Health Insurance Reauthorization Act of 2009 (CHIPRA)." As for the aging parent, wouldn't they QUALIFY FOR MEDICARE? Come on!
If and I mean if Obama's health care plan gets passed it WILL NOT improve the quality of healthcare the poor, sick, needy and low-income citizens desperately need addressed! Not one bit. These same people will still have to go to emergency rooms because they don't have medical centers that accept MEDICAID in their urban and rural areas OR they DO NOT QUALIFY for Medicaid. Therefore, Remote Area Medical (RAM) will have to continue to provide medical, dental and vision to 100s of thousands of uninsured Americans. Just you wait and see. President Obama's health care WILL NOT SOLVE this dilemma.
One last point, there are approximately 3 to 4 million Americans who do not financially qualify or are too young to qualify for any medical assistance through Medicaid and Medicare. These government-run medical programs already exist. Why doesn't our federal government adjust them so everyone has has a chance to qualify?! Fill in the gap. These are the very same people Remote Area Medical (RAM) has been serving in the United States. Medicaid Reform should be presented in one legislative bill and Health care Insurance industry Reform should be presented in another legislative bill. BREAK IT UP MR. PRESIDENT. Quit drowning in a glass of water. Quit listening to people who will no longer be by your side and start doing what is RIGHT for America. I would like to end with this last statement made by President Obama this evening. REQUIRED MEANS FORCED and if you notice once again those people in our society who are still unable to pay for health care coverage or do not qualify for Medicaid or Medicare will be OFFERED a HARDSHIP WAIVER!!! Do you get it now? Can you see?
That's why under my plan, individuals will be required to carry basic health insurance -- just as most states require you to carry auto insurance.
Likewise -- likewise, businesses will be required to either offer their workers health care, or chip in to help cover the cost of their workers.
There will be a hardship waiver for those individuals who still can't afford coverage, and 95 percent of all small businesses, because of their size and narrow profit margin, would be exempt from these requirements.
