CNN Lou Dobbs: Major Pork In Obama Stimulus Package
I would just like to tell our President and our Democratic Congress, create your own Foundation so that ALL of you may contribute money out of your pocketbooks and not the taxpayers. At least 90% of this bill is LACED with special interest contributions. How dare you try to pass this legislation as an economic stimulus package.
- $2.5 billion in temporary welfare payments
- $1 billion for home heating subsidies
- $20 billion to increase food stamp benefits
- $1 billion for community action agencies (ACORN)
- $5 billion for repair and construction projects in Public Housing Units
- $2.5 billion to renovate and retrofit Federally Assisted Housing Units to make them more energy efficient
- $1.5 billion for the HOME program to rehabilitate and construct housing, as well as fill in financing gaps - (HOME funds are reserved for people at or below 80 percent (80%) of Average Median Family Income)
- $100 million to address lead based paint threats in Public Housing Units
- $600 million to replace a portion of the Federal vehicle fleet with alternative fuel vehicles
- $7.7 billion for construction and repairs of Federal buidlings
- $4.5 billion for sustainment, maintenance and repair of Department of Defense facilities
- $3 billion for National Science Foundation
- $600 million for NASA research
- $6.575 for Department of Commerce Grant program
- $4 billion for the Department of Justice Grant Program
- $50 million for grants through the National Endowment for the Arts
- $335 million for treatment and prevention of sexually transmitted diseases.
- $75 million to fund programs to help people quit smoking.
- $21 million to re-sod the National Mall, which suffered heavy use during the Inauguration.
