Save the Planet, Save the Frogs. For Fowler Printing, green comes in many colors: Interview with Stanley Hurwitz, Fowler Printing and Graphics - Click here to read the entire article

This may be the ‘Year of the Frog,’ but Fowler Printing & Graphics, based in Randolph, Massachusetts, didn’t just jump on the lily pad bandwagon.

Since 1996 - long before it was fashionable in much of the business world - owner Steve Brennan was taking seriously the warnings to take care of our planet because "It’s the only one we have," he notes with a characteristic twinkle in his eyes. He adds, "There are hundreds of shades of green ink, but the ‘green’ that really excites me is the green associated with protecting the environment."

Although stories about ‘going green’ are regularly in the news today, it was a relatively new concept twelve years ago when Fowler Printing received its first award for conservation and recycling efforts. "That year we were credited with saving 881 trees and over 155 cubic yards of landfill. I’m proud that we’ve exceeded those numbers every year," he says.

Steve started as an apprentice in the printing business when he was thirteen and worked his way up to owner. The company was founded in 1963 and today, his modern 16,000 square foot facility employs twenty-three people and has such well-known customers as Boston University and Public Interest Research Group (PIRG), to name a few.

"By printing green, you’re sending a powerful message to customers and the community that you care about the environment -- and they should, too," says Steve. "Now we’re suggesting that customers place ‘awareness taglines’ on the back of all printed materials, announcing to the world they’re doing their part to save it."

Steve has moved Fowler toward ‘Going 100% Green’ and in the process has earned acceptance into the Green Power Partnership sponsored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). In a letter to Steve, EPA Administrator Stephen L. Johnson said, "EPA applauds our partners for protecting our environment by purchasing green power. By voluntarily shifting to renewable energy, Fowler Printing & Graphics is proving you don’t need to wait for a signal in order to go green."

Steve notes, "By going green, we’re reducing our carbon footprint, supporting the development of new, domestic renewable energy sources, and playing an important role in the security of America’s energy supply. We’re also protecting amphibians and every other creature. And we’re making a statement to our customers and colleagues, hoping they’ll follow our lead."

"Each of us should think green," says Brennan. "You can’t put a price on saving the environment for future generations."

That's pretty cool. Just goes to show you that you don't have to be a large corporation to make a difference. Smaller companies can reduce their carbon footprint and make an impact on saving our planet. Other companies should follow suit and do whatever they can in their line of work to do what Fowler Printing & Graphics is doing here. Way to go!

Yeah. I found this to be exciting news too! I do believe that all it takes is one person to set the lead toward progress in the green direction.

He is a living breathing example of action that will ripple out into waves...
