USA: Horse Advocates Are Calling For An Investigation After The Bureau of Land Management Killed 28 Wild Mustangs From A Recent Roundup In Nevada. Could Have Been Avoided!

SAN FRANCISCO – Horse advocates are calling for an investigation after the Bureau of Land Management killed 28 wild mustangs from a recent roundup. BLM officials said the horses were emaciated and at risk of starvation.
The BLM rounded up 201 horses in the mountains outside Las Vegas around the community of Cold Creek last month. Officials told the Las Vegas Review Journal they plan to collect more after spotting dozens more horses “in really poor shape,” during a helicopter survey Tuesday morning.
In a report, the BLM said the 28 horses were euthanized due to “poor prognosis for recovery or improvement.”
“We really did try to save them,” said BLM assistant manager for the Southern Nevada District Karla Norris.
Horse advocates are not convinced.
San Francisco-based non-profit Protect Mustang has written a complaint to the Inspector General calling for a full investigation into the management, roundup, feeding and veterinary care of the 28 horses that were put down.
“Why didn’t the BLM help these federally protected horses get the forage they needed earlier?” says the complaint posted on the organization’s website.
“The BLM roundup was supposed to save wild horses not kill them,” said Anne Novak, the group’s executive director.
Arlene Gawne, president of Las Vegas-based America’s Wild Horse Advocates accuses the BLM of creating the crisis on the range.
“Had the government implemented a birth control program when we proposed it, these horses would likely not be suffering today,” said Gawne in a written statement.

COLD CREEK, Nev.
A roundup of wild horses north of Las Vegas has ended, for now. The Bureau of Land Management confirms it gathered 230 Mustangs over the past three weeks in and around Cold Creek.
The government says it took the emergency action in order to save the horses from the ravages of drought. But critics of the BLM say the Cold Creek operation illustrates everything that is wrong with the wild horse program and say it has all but wiped out the last viable horse herd in southern Nevada.
“They want us to believe somehow it's a humane thing they're doing for the horses and that we should all feel grateful. I don't feel grateful at all,” said long-time wild horse advocate Jerry Reynoldson.
In the decades that he's been fighting on behalf of the mustang herds, Reynoldson has seen this same story play out over and over.
Across the West, millions of acres which were designated by law as habitat for Mustangs have been zeroed out, completely stripped of wild horses. But it's not entirely empty, he says.
“That's just been set aside for cattle again, pure and simple.”
Reynoldson and other mustang advocates are heartbroken over the roundup at Cold Creek, but hardly surprised.
In the 20 plus years the I-Team has chronicled the Cold Creek herd, it's captured some amazing images, many worthy of scenes from a Hollywood movie.
The Cold Creek herd is one of the West's most iconic, in part, because they've always been so accessible. They are beloved by visitors and by nearly all of the residents, many of whom moved to the town to be near the Mustangs.
The BLM asks for public comment whenever it contemplates a roundup. Opposition is usually close to unanimous, but it never impacts the BLM's decision.
In recent years, the BLM has come to rely on what it deems emergency gathers. Those are roundups carried out with little advance notice and no public comment at all.
Each time BLM staffers say they had no choice but to move in to rescue horses that were in bad shape due to drought conditions.
Reynoldson and others allege the emergency was manufactured.
“This didn’t sneak up on us. People have known these horses were out there for many years” he said. “I think they knew what their game plan was for a long time. They were just waiting for the situation to get dire enough and that's a terrible remedy and a terrible way to manage.”
If you ask a BLM official what their overall wild horse strategy is, the answer is remarkably similar every time: the horses have to be managed. But the reality, critics say, is that management means only one thing to BLM: roundups.
In the mid 90s, BLM captured the last Mustangs in Red Rock Canyon, a supposedly temporary measure to allow wild grasses to replenish.
Twenty years later, the horses have never been returned.
After roundups, they get shipped off to holding pens where most spend the rest of their lives. In many previous roundups, BLM releases pictures of a few emaciated horses to the public, even though 90 percent of those captured might be in good health.
In Cold Creek, a round up to help emaciated horses ended with 15 percent of them being killed on the spot, for their own good, the agency said.
If BLM wanted to manage the herd at Cold Creek, it could have been pro-active, Reynoldson says, by working with local residents, culling the older sicker horses, instituting birth control, and actual management.
“In the end, they want to get these horses out of here. They want to remove them. Cold Creek was probably the last substantial group of horses in southern Nevada.”

You Take My Breath Away ~ by Eva Cassidy
Sometimes it amazes me
How strong the power of love can be
Sometimes you just take my breath away
You watch my love grow like a child
Sometimes gentle and sometimes wild
Sometimes you just take my breath away
And it's too good to slip by
Too good to lose
Too good to be there
Just to use
I'm gonna stand on a mountain top
And tell the news
That you take my breath away
Sometimes it amazes me
How strong the power of love can be
Sometimes you just take my breath away
Your beauty is there in all I see
And when I feel your eyes on me
Oh don't you know you just take my breath away
And it's too good to slip by
Too good to lose
Too good to be there
Just to use
I'm gonna stand on a mountain top
And tell the news
That you take my breath away
And it's too good to slip by
Too good to lose
Too good to be there
Just to use
I'm gonna stand on a mountain top
And tell the news
Yep...♥ Hugs! :)
An Exuberant Declaration of Faith
[source: Biblegateway]
1 The Lord is my light and my salvation;
Whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the strength of my life;
Of whom shall I be afraid?
2 When the wicked came against me
To eat up my flesh,
My enemies and foes,
They stumbled and fell.
3 Though an army may encamp against me,
My heart shall not fear;
Though war may rise against me,
In this I will be confident.
4 One thing I have desired of the Lord,
That will I seek:
That I may dwell in the house of the Lord
All the days of my life,
To behold the beauty of the Lord,
And to inquire in His temple.
5 For in the time of trouble
He shall hide me in His pavilion;
In the secret place of His tabernacle
He shall hide me;
He shall set me high upon a rock.
6 And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me;
Therefore I will offer sacrifices of joy in His tabernacle;
I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the Lord.
7 Hear, O Lord, when I cry with my voice!
Have mercy also upon me, and answer me.
8 When You said, “Seek My face,”
My heart said to You, “Your face, Lord, I will seek.”
9 Do not hide Your face from me;
Do not turn Your servant away in anger;
You have been my help;
Do not leave me nor forsake me,
O God of my salvation.
10 When my father and my mother forsake me,
Then the Lord will take care of me.
11 Teach me Your way, O Lord,
And lead me in a smooth path, because of my enemies.
12 Do not deliver me to the will of my adversaries;
For false witnesses have risen against me,
And such as breathe out violence.
13 I would have lost heart, unless I had believed
That I would see the goodness of the Lord
In the land of the living.
14 Wait on the Lord;
Be of good courage,
And He shall strengthen your heart;
Wait, I say, on the Lord!
The MOST Important Commandment

Discussion about Resurrection
23 That same day Jesus was approached by some Sadducees—religious leaders who say there is no resurrection from the dead. They posed this question: 24 “Teacher, Moses said, ‘If a man dies without children, his brother should marry the widow and have a child who will carry on the brother’s name.’ 25 Well, suppose there were seven brothers. The oldest one married and then died without children, so his brother married the widow. 26 But the second brother also died, and the third brother married her. This continued with all seven of them. 27 Last of all, the woman also died. 28 So tell us, whose wife will she be in the resurrection? For all seven were married to her.”
29 Jesus replied, “Your mistake is that you don’t know the Scriptures, and you don’t know the power of God. 30 For when the dead rise, they will neither marry nor be given in marriage. In this respect they will be like the angels in heaven.
31 “But now, as to whether there will be a resurrection of the dead—haven’t you ever read about this in the Scriptures? Long after Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob had died, God said, 32 ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’ So he is the God of the living, not the dead.”
33 When the crowds heard him, they were astounded at his teaching.
The MOST Important Commandment
34. But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees with his reply, they met together to question him again. 35. One of them, an expert in religious law, tried to trap him with this question: 36. “Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?”
37. Jesus replied, “‘Love the Lord your God with ALL your heart, ALL your soul, and ALL your mind.’ (means surrender your entire self to Him, to the Divine.) 38. This is the first and greatest commandment. 39. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ (in other words, treat others as you want to be treated.) 40. The ENTIRE LAW and ALL the demands of the prophets are based on THESE TWO commandments.”

Love Is the Greatest ♥
1 Corinthians 13 AMPLIFIED
1 If I [can] speak in the tongues of men and [even] of angels, but have not love (that reasoning, intentional, spiritual devotion such as is inspired by God’s love for and in us), I am only a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
2 And if I have prophetic powers (the gift of interpreting the divine will and purpose), and understand all the secret truths and mysteries and possess all knowledge, and if I have [sufficient] faith so that I can remove mountains, but have not love (God’s love in me) I am nothing (a useless nobody).
3 Even if I dole out all that I have [to the poor in providing] food, and if I surrender my body to be burned or in order that I may glory, but have not love (God’s love in me), I gain nothing.
4 Love endures long and is patient and kind; love never is envious nor boils over with jealousy, is not boastful or vainglorious, does not display itself haughtily.
5 It is not conceited (arrogant and inflated with pride); it is not rude (unmannerly) and does not act unbecomingly. Love (God’s love in us) does not insist on its own rights or its own way, for it is not self-seeking; it is not touchy or fretful or resentful; it takes no account of the evil done to it [it pays no attention to a suffered wrong].
6 It does not rejoice at injustice and unrighteousness, but rejoices when right and truth prevail.
7 Love bears up under anything and everything that comes, is ever ready to believe the best of every person, its hopes are fadeless under all circumstances, and it endures everything [without weakening].
8 Love never fails [never fades out or becomes obsolete or comes to an end]. As for prophecy (the gift of interpreting the divine will and purpose), it will be fulfilled and pass away; as for tongues, they will be destroyed and cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away [it will lose its value and be superseded by truth].
9 For our knowledge is fragmentary (incomplete and imperfect), and our prophecy (our teaching) is fragmentary (incomplete and imperfect).
10 But when the complete and perfect (total) comes, the incomplete and imperfect will vanish away (become antiquated, void, and superseded).
11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; now that I have become a man, I am done with childish ways and have put them aside.
12 For now we are looking in a mirror that gives only a dim (blurred) reflection [of reality as in a riddle or enigma], but then [when perfection comes] we shall see in reality and face to face! Now I know in part (imperfectly), but then I shall know and understand [fully and clearly, even in the same manner as I have been fully and clearly known and understood [by God].
13 And so faith, hope, love abide [faith—conviction and belief respecting man’s relation to God and divine things; hope—joyful and confident expectation of eternal salvation; love—true affection for God and man, growing out of God’s love for and in us], these three; but the greatest of these is love.

The Courage To Be Myself...♥
Back in 1994, while on a ski trip in Breckenridge, Colorado, I ran across this poster in a gift shop. The title of it caught my attention. Curious, I began to read it. The message touched my spirit so profoundly that I had to buy it. The funny thing is, I had to lug that poster with me on the airplane back to Los Angeles, California. I didn't care. It was a long poster attached to cardboard backing. I didn't want to bend or roll it up because I wanted to hang it on my wall just as it was. I still have it hanging right next to the door frame of my bedroom. So everytime I exit my bedroom it's right there for me to see. I've had it for so long, I admit that I don't read it everyday. However, on occasion my spirit stops me and I unconsciously begin reading this message. I'm grateful that my spirit knows what it needs and at those times it's nourishment.
I hope this message touches you as it touched me. May it bring you peace, love, understanding and acceptance of who you are. Enjoy!

Keep Your Eyes On God...♥
This was the message I woke up with this morning. God said to keep our eyes on Him. Just as a child taking their first footsteps. God says, "Keep your eyes on me, not your surroundings." A child totally trust their father or mother who is holding out their hands waiting to receive them or catch them if they were to fall. We are all children of the Most High God and He wants us to feel the same trust as we surrender ourselves, surrender our lives to Him and step forward in His divine grace and divine purpose. God sees us as His little child no matter how old we are in this material world. God loves you sooooo much...♥ Nothing on earth can be compared to His unconditional love, His everlasting mercy and His amazing grace.
Hold on to God's hand and don't let go. Trust and believe.
You Will Always Be God's Precious Little Child
Just know that God is keeping you
safe in the palm of His hands
safe in the palm of His hands
This is how God see's you, His precious little child
Lord seeth not as man seeth;
for man looketh on the outward appearance
but the Lord looketh on the HEART.
(1 Samuel 16:7)
for man looketh on the outward appearance
but the Lord looketh on the HEART.
(1 Samuel 16:7)
You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body
and knit me together in my mother’s womb.
Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex!
Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.
You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion,
as I was woven together in the dark of the womb.
You saw me before I was born.
Every day of my life was recorded in your book.
Every moment was laid out
before a single day had passed.
How precious are your thoughts about me,[a] O God.
They cannot be numbered!
I can’t even count them;
they outnumber the grains of sand!
And when I wake up,
you are still with me!

Time and again I’ve longed for adventure,
Something to make my heart beat the faster.
What did I long for? I never really knew.
Finding your love I’ve found my adventure,
Touching your hand, my heart beats the faster,
All that I want in all of this world is you.
You are the promised kiss of springtime
That makes the lonely winter seem long.
You are the breathless hush of evening
That trembles on the brink of a lovely song.
You are the angel glow that lights a star,
The dearest things I know are what you are.
Some day my happy arms will hold you,
And some day I’ll know that moment divine,
When all the things you are, are mine!

The Very Thought Of You
~ by Ella Fitzgerald
he very thought of you and I forget to do
The little ordinary things that everyone ought to do
I'm living in a kind of daydream
I'm happy as a king
And foolish though it may seem
To me that's everything
The mere idea of you, the longing here for you
You'll never know how slow the moments go till Im near to you
I see your face in every flower
Your eyes in stars above
Its just the thought of you
The very thought of you, my love
The mere idea of you, the longing here for you
You'll never know how slow the moments go till I'm near to you
I see your face in every flower
Your eyes in stars above
Its just the thought of you
The very thought of you, my love
Life's Choices! This Is A Such GREAT Story! ♥
Life's Choices
[source: Moytura]
Michael is the kind of guy you love to hate. He is always in a good mood and always has something positive to say. When someone would ask him how he was doing, would reply, "If I were any better, I would be twins!"
He was a natural motivator. If an employee was having a bad day, Michael was there telling the employee how to look on the positive side of the situation.
Seeing this style really made me curious, so one day I went up to Michael and asked him, "I don't get it! You can't be a positive person all of the time. How do you do it?"
Michael replied, "Each morning I wake up and say to myself, you have two choices today.
You can choose to be in a good mood or you can choose to be in a bad mood. I choose to be in a good mood.
Each time something bad happens, I can choose to be a victim or I can choose to learn from it. I choose to learn from it.
Every time someone comes to me complaining, I can choose to accept their complaining or... I can point out the positive side of life, choose the positive side of life.
"Yeah, right, it's not that easy," I protested. "Yes, it is," Michael said. "Life is all about choices. When you cut away all the junk, every situation is a choice.
You choose how you react to situations. You choose how people affect your mood. You choose to be in a good mood or bad mood.
The bottom line: It's your choice how you live your life."
I reflected on what Michael said. Soon thereafter, I left the Tower Industry to start my own business. We lost touch, but I often thought about him when I made a choice about life instead of reacting to it.
Several years later, I heard that Michael was involved in a serious accident, falling some 60 feet from a communications tower! After 18 hours of surgery and weeks of intensive care, Michael was released from the hospital with rods placed in his back.
I saw Michael about six months after the accident. When I asked him how he was, he replied. "If I were any better, I'd be twins. Wanna see my scars?" I declined to see his wounds, but I did ask him what had gone through his mind as the accident took place.
"The first thing that went through my mind was the well-being of my soon to be born daughter," Michael replied. "Then, as I lay on the ground, I remembered that I had two choices: I could choose to live or I could choose to die. I chose to live."
"Weren't you scared? Did you lose consciousness?" I asked.
Michael continued, "... the paramedics were great. They kept telling me I was going to be fine. But when they wheeled me into the ER and I saw the expressions on the faces of the doctors and nurses, I got really scared. In their eyes, I read "he's a dead man. I knew I needed to take action."
"What did you do?" I asked.
"Well, there was a big burly nurse shouting questions at me," said Michael. "She asked if I was allergic to anything.
"Yes, I replied." The doctors and nurses stopped working as they waited for my reply. I took a deep breath and yelled, "Gravity."
Over their laughter, I told them, "I am choosing to live. Operate on me as if I am alive, not dead."
Michael lived, thanks to the skill of his doctors, but also because of his amazing attitude. I learned from him that every day we have the choice to live fully.
Attitude, after all, is everything.
"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." After all today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday.
Enjoy each day, each breath and mostly each and every friend.

CHILE: Massive 8.3 Magnitude Earthquake Rocked The North Central Coastline Overnight Leaving 10 Dead; Small Tsunami Waves Reach California, Hawaii. Pacific Ocean Ring Of Fire Is Active!
The Wall Street Journal

A powerful earthquake rattled Chile on Wednesday, resulting in at least five deaths and causing the government to issue a tsunami alert as high waves flooded streets in a number of coastal cities.
President Michelle Bachelet, who has faced natural disasters including forest fires and volcano eruptions since taking office last year, said she would travel to northern Chile on Thursday to assess the damage near the epicenter of the quake.
“We are going to travel. We are waiting for relevant information to know which places,” Ms. Bachelet said in a televised statement. The president confirmed that three people died, including one woman who was killed when a wall collapsed.
“We are going to declare a catastrophe zone in all of the zones affected,” she said.
The U.S. Geological Survey said the epicenter of the magnitude 8.3 quake was about 140 miles northwest of Chile’s capital Santiago, off the coast of the northern region of Coquimbo. A number of strong aftershocks followed the original quake.
Chilean media reported that some cities lost electricity.
State copper mine Codelco said it halted operations at one of its mines in northern Chile as it evacuated workers amid tsunami concerns.
Chile state TV showed water flowing in streets of Concón, a coastal town known for its beautiful beaches that is close to the port city of ValparaÃso. Higher water was also seen in other cities, but no destructive high waves had been reported.
Residents as far away as Argentina’s capital, Buenos Aires, said they felt the quake.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a watch for Hawaii, saying that if the quake did generate a strong tsunami, the surge would arrive about 3 a.m. local time Thursday.
Chile is highly prone to natural disasters. In 2010, a magnitude 8.8 quake and tsunami left more than 500 people dead and destroyed 220,000 homes.
Since taking office for a second term in 2014, Ms. Bachelet has had to issue emergencies as a result of large forest fires and volcano eruptions in the south.

Tsunami advisories are in effect for Hawaii and Southern California after a powerful magnitude-8.3 earthquake struck the Pacific Ocean waters just off the coast of Chile Wednesday evening, generating a dangerous 15-foot tsunami along parts of the Chilean coast. Chilean authorities said at least 10 epeople died as a result of earthquake-related incidents.
The tsunami is fanning out across much of the Pacific Ocean, though the worst of its power is expected to be focused westward toward French Polynesia, including Tahiti.
In the U.S., initial tsunami waves arrived in the Hawaiian Islands, with a magnitude of 3 feet measured at Hilo and 2.2 feet in Kahului, Maui. A 2-3 inch rise was also measured at Honolulu.
The Pacific Typhoon Warning Center has issued a tsunami advisory for Hawaii. The bulletin said a major tsunami is not expected, but "sea level changes and strong currents" may endanger swimmers and boaters Thursday, with waves of 1 to 3 feet.
Local officials have urged people to stay off the beach and out of the water.
The U.S. government's National Tsunami Warning Center also issued a tsunami advisory for Southern California, including coastal areas of the counties of San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Ventura, Los Angeles, Orange and San Diego. NTWC said tsunami waves of less than 1 foot above normal tide levels can be expected.
Such waves are not a danger to those on land, but they can create unusual and dangerous currents posing a danger to swimmers and boaters. People along the coast of southern California are advised to avoid the water until the tsunami threat subsides.
A tide gauge at Santa Monica, California, measured the initial tsunami wave early Thursday morning, with a fluctuation of about one foot in less than 15 minutes, according to the National Weather Service in Oxnard.
Initial tsunami waves were also detected Thursday morning at La Jolla, California and Monterey Harbor.
The L.A. County Office of Emergency Management advised fishermen, beachgoers and visitors to stay off beaches, harbor areas and jetties until the advisory is lifted. No evacuations were ordered for L.A. County coastal areas.
Tsunami advisories were also posted for American Samoa. The first wave reached Pago Pago around 1:54 a.m. local time (8:54 a.m. EDT), and a peak height of 2.2 feet just under 90 minutes later. Similar to Hawaii, peak wave heights of 3 feet or less were expected, there.
Initial tsunami wave heights up to 1.1 feet were recorded in the French Polynesian Island of Rikitea, about 3,900 miles west of Lima, Peru in the South Pacific Ocean early Thursday morning, U.S. time. Nuku Hiva, another French Polynesian island about 1,000 miles north-northwest of Rikitea, measured a 4.5-foot tsunami wave height.
The lead tsunami waves reached as far west as the Chatham Islands east of New Zealand's two main islands Thursday morning U.S. time, where a 1.2 foot wave height was measured at Owenga.
The gauge in Coquimbo, Chile, recorded three tsunami waves of at least 4 meters (13 feet) each, including a maximum tsunami wave height 15.1 feet above normal tide levels. Several other Chilean coastal cities have recorded tsunami waves as well, though none nearly as dramatic as those in Coquimbo.
The U.S. Geological Survey said the main shock struck at 7:54 p.m. Chile time (6:54 p.m. EDT in the U.S.) about 34 miles (54 km) west of Illapel, Chile, or about 145 miles (233 km) north-northwest of Santiago, Chile's largest city. It is the planet's strongest quake of 2015 thus far.
Officials in Chile issued a tsunami warning for the entire coastline of the country, advising everyone near the coast to move to higher ground. The tsunami warning was dropped for Chile's two southernmost regions shortly after 11 p.m. local time.
The quake was so strong that shaking was felt across much of South America. The strongest shaking was reported in Coquimbo and La Serena, where the ground motions registered at level VIII (eight) on the 12-point Mercalli scale, according to Chilean authorities. Such shaking is classified as "severe" and can cause severe damage in poorly built structures.
The USGS "Did You Feel It?" website received reports of level IX (nine) shaking, considered "violent" on the Mercalli scale, in Illapel.
Widespread power outages have been reported near the epicenter, and Chile's emergency management network, Red Nacional de Emergencia, said cellular phone networks have "collapsed" in some regions. RNE also said it has received reports of landslides in hilly sections of Salamancas, Coquimbo, and Los Vilos, in the region closest to the quake epicenter.
Officials ordered people to evacuate low-lying areas along the 2,400 miles (3,900 kilometers) of Chile's Pacific shore, from Puerto Aysen in the south to Arica in the north. Fishing boats headed out to sea and cars streamed inland carrying people to higher ground. Santiago's main airport was evacuated as a precaution.
Authorities said many houses collapsed in the inland city of Illapel, about 175 miles (280 kilometers) north of Santiago.
Electricity was knocked out, leaving the city in darkness. "We are very scared. Our city panicked," Cortes said.
Thousands of Illapel residents slept outside Thursday night after the temblor destroyed their homes. Many of those people were inside their dwellings, some made of concrete, when the intense shaking began.
"I thought it was the end of the world and we were going to die," said Illapel resident Manuel Moya, who slept on the ground after his home was destroyed. He and his wife were watching television in their bed when the tremor began, and both scrambled outside in their underwear, fearing the house would collapse on top of them. After the quake, neighbors brought them clothes.
"They said it was a magnitude 8 but it felt like a 10," he added.
The quake was immediately followed by four aftershocks of 6.0 or greater magnitude within 30 minutes. The tremors measured 6.3, 6.1, 6.2 and 7.0, striking at 7:59, 8:03, 8:16 and 8:18 local time, respectively. Additional strong aftershocks struck at 10:41 p.m. Wednesday (magnitude 6.4) and at 12:55 and 1:10 a.m. Thursday (magnitudes 6.2 and 6.3, respectively).
Numerous other aftershocks registering between 5.0 and 5.9 on the moment magnitude scale occurred in the hours after the main earthquake, according to the USGS.
Other South American Nations on Alert
North of Chile, the Peruvian military issued a tsunami warning for the entire coast of Peru. Sea level monitoring sites in Callao and Matarani both recorded tsunami waves of less than 1 foot (0.3 meter) late Wednesday evening.
However, the seismological agency in Ecuador, INOCAR, said the Chilean quake "does not have the characteristics necessary to generate a tsunami," and did not issue a tsunami warning for its coastline. It instead warned of dangerous currents.
The U.S. government's Pacific Tsunami Warning Center placed both Peru and Ecuador among the countries where tsunami waves could reach 0.3 to 1 meter (1 to 3 feet) above normal tide levels.
Chile's Earthquake History
A magnitude-8.8 quake and ensuing tsunami in south-central Chile in 2010 killed more than 500 people, destroyed 220,000 homes, and washed away docks, riverfronts and seaside resorts. That quake released so much energy, it actually it shortened the Earth's day by a fraction of a second by changing the planet's rotation.
The quake had huge ramifications, both political and practical, prompting the Andean nation to improve its alert systems for both quakes and tsunamis.
Chile is one of the world's most earthquake-prone countries because just off the coast, the Nazca tectonic plate plunges beneath the South American plate, pushing the towering Andes cordillera to ever-higher altitudes.
The strongest earthquake ever recorded on Earth happened in Chile - a magnitude-9.5 tremor in 1960 that killed more than 5,000 people.

MEXICO CITY (CBS/AP) — A strong earthquake shook communities along the Gulf of California on Sunday, but there were no immediate reports of damage.
The U.S. Geological Survey said the magnitude 6.6 quake struck at 1:14 a.m. local time at a depth of 6 miles. The offshore epicenter was 48 miles south-southwest of Los Mochis.
It was preceded by two other earthquakes of magnitude 4.9 and 5.3.
Mexico’s national coordinator of civil protection, Luis Felipe Puente, sent a tweet saying that there were no immediate reports of damage in Sinaloa state, where Los Mochis lies, or in Baja California Sur on the other side of the gulf.
Mexico, which lies on three tectonic plates, is one of the world’s most seismically active regions.
USA: ISIS Has Released A Video To Commemorate–And Celebrate–The 9/11 Attacks. “We Are Back In America, And Promise To Deliver Cars Full Of Explosives And Suicide Bombers.”

ISIS has released a video to commemorate–and celebrate–the 9/11 attacks. “We are back in America,” the terrorist nation declares, warning that Americans can expect another attack on the scale of what their godfathers in al-Qaeda pulled off on September 11, 2001, and promising to deliver “cars full of explosives and suicide bombers.”
ISIS and al-Qaeda are fighting on several fronts today, including Syria and Afghanistan, but the ten-minute video (which can be viewed in its entirety here) approvingly quotes Osama bin Laden: “Every Muslim, from the moment they realise the distinction in their hearts, hates Americans, hates Jews, and hates Christians. … For as long as I can remember, I have felt tormented and at war, and have felt hatred and animosity for Americans.”
The UK Daily Record notes that the video purportedly comes from ISIS hacker groups calling themselves the “Islamic Cyber Army” and “Caliphate Hackers,” whose Twitter accounts buzzed with activity promising a September 11 “America Under Hacks” cyber-attack this year, but no such action was attempted.
It is not clear if these groups are affiliated with the hackers who have perpetrated ISIS-linked cyber crimes in the past, or are even official members of the Islamic State. It is not difficult for any random group of goons to put a video together, flush it onto social media, and claim to be members of ISIS. All the images in this video would have been easily gathered from online sources; much of it consists of major-media stock footage. There have been other recent examples of hoaxers and impostors claiming to be ISIS hackers and recruiters, notably Joshua Ryne Goldberg of Florida, who believed he had convinced an ISIS enthusiast to build a functional bomb and deploy it at a 9/11 event in Missouri.
This video is heavily produced, as with official ISIS productions of the past, but a few differences besides the generally approving attitude displayed toward al-Qaeda and Osama bin Laden exist. Some of the background singing is in English, for example, promising that the “soldiers of Allah are more than ready” to carry out new terrorist strikes.
The members of this “Islamic Cyber Army” supposedly introduce themselves at the end of the clip, using aliases such as “Syria Virus” and “Dr. ISIS.”
The UK Daily Mail notes this purported ISIS video hit social media just one day after a genuine message from the current leader of al-Qaeda, Ayman al-Zawahiri, calling for unity among jihadi groups (but simultaneously accusing the Islamic State of committing blasphemy by declaring itself the one true “Caliphate”). As the Daily Mail puts it, Zawahiri sent a “sinister message to young Muslim men in the United States and other Western countries, encouraging them to carry out attacks in their home countries.”
It is possible the ISIS video was quickly put together as a response to Zawahiri or an attempt to upstage him, although, of course, the timing could have been coincidental, with both actual terrorists and wannabes rushing to take advantage of 9/11.
USA/EUROPE: Al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahri Urges Lone Wolf Islamic Jihadi Attacks In The United States And Other Western Nations.

Sunday September 13, 2015
Al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahri called on young Muslim men in the United States and other Western countries to carry out attacks inside there and urged greater unity between militants.
"I call on all Muslims who can harm the countries of the crusader coalition not to hesitate. We must now focus on moving the war to the heart of the homes and cities of the crusader West and specifically America," he said in an audio recording posted online on Sunday, referring to nations making up the Western-led coalition in Iraq and Syria.
He suggested Muslim youth in the West take the Tsarnaev and Kouachi brothers, who carried out the Boston marathon bombings and Charlie Hebdo shootings in Paris respectively, and others as examples to follow.
It was not clear when the recording was made but references to former Taliban leader Mullah Mohamed Omar as being alive suggest it is at least two months old. Omar's death was announced by Afghanistan's government in late July.
Zawahri reiterated his position on Islamic State, repeating what he said in a recording posted on Wednesday - that he viewed the group's claim to be a caliphate as illegitimate but would join them in fighting Western and secular forces in Iraq and Syria.
Former Egyptian doctor Zawahri urged unity between Islamist militant factions in Syria and Iraq, where a Western-led coalition is bombing Islamic State targets, but recognized it would he be difficult. He called for the formation of an independent sharia court to settle disputes.

The latest audio recording from al Qaeda chief Ayman al-Zawahiri contains the most explicit appeal to date for unity between rival jihadi groups worldwide, shedding new light on the complex, wary relations between Osama bin Laden’s original terror network and the newer Islamic State in Syria and Iraq.
The recording, which circulated on Sunday, carries a notably less hostile tenor toward the Islamic State, also known as ISIS and ISIL, than an earlier messages from al-Zawahiri, including one that appeared online just last week on Sept. 9.
There is uncertainty about when the recordings were actually made. But terror analysts say one thing is clear: The man who intelligence officials say has led so-called “al Qaeda prime” since bin Laden was killed in a 2011 U.S. raid in Pakistan has adopted a less hostile vision of the rival extremist group that exploded onto the scene last year.
In the Sept. 9 recording, al-Zawahiri took an open swipe at Islamic State founder Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, whose declaration of a “caliphate” in Syria and Iraq — and the movement’s subsequent popularity among young extremists worldwide — have increasingly challenged al Qaeda’s dominance as the lead actor on the global jihadi stage.
The message featured what analysts say was al-Zawahiri’s voice accusing al-Baghdadi of “sedition” and insisting that the Iraq-born terrorist is not the true leader of Muslims that he proclaimed he was when he declared himself the “caliph” of the Islamic State last year.
The harsh words fit within the narrative of a rhetorical and actual shooting war that has played out for months between al Qaeda and the Islamic State, especially in Syria, where Islamic State fighters regularly clash with militants from the al Nusra Front, al Qaeda’s recognized branch in the war-torn nation.
But in the apparently newer recording that circulated on Sept. 14, al-Zawahiri, an Egyptian doctor who long served as bin Laden’s top aide, suggests that the better course would be for the al Nusra Front and the Islamic State to stop fighting and instead form a united front against both the Syrian military and the U.S., which has been pounding both groups with airstrikes for months.
According to The Long War Journal, published by the Foundation for Defense of Democracies in Washington, the Sept. 14 recording features al-Zawahiri’s voice calling on all of the “mujahedeen” in Syria and Iraq to cooperate and “help each other,” because the jihadis’ enemies are supposedly waging a vicious “crusade” against them.
Al-Zawahiri says at one point in the new audio message: “Were I in Iraq or in [Syria], I would cooperate with [Islamic State] in fighting the crusaders, the secularists, the Nusayris (Alawites) and the [Shia Muslims] … because the matter is bigger than me and their claim of establishing a caliphate.”
Thomas Joscelyn, The Long War Journal’s senior editor, said that even as ideological rifts may continue between the Islamic State and al Qaeda, al-Zawahiri’s call for unity should not come as a surprise.
“It is likely that while al-Qaeda considers Baghdadi and most of his inner circle to be a lost cause, the group still hopes that part of the Islamic State can be reconciled,” Mr. Joscelyn wrote in an article posted on the journal’s website. “At a minimum, Zawahiri hopes to limit the ‘fitna’ (discord, or strife) that plagues the jihadists’ efforts, and so he hopes to convince followers of the Islamic State to avoid targeting their ideological cousins in al-Qaeda-affiliated groups.”
The rift between Islamic State and the al Nusra Front is one of the most complicated aspects of the multifront Syrian civil war that has left more than 240,000 people dead and millions displaced since 2011. And the prospect that the two groups might be able to suddenly unite is a particularly vexing one for the Obama administration. While the White House’s stated goal is to crush both groups in Syria, administration officials have appeared to put a far greater stress on the fight against Islamic State.
Lone wolf attacks
The al Qaeda leader’s latest message was also notable for its open appeal for young Muslim men in the U.S. and other Western nations to carry out attacks in their homelands — a call that seemed to piggyback onto similar messages circulated by al-Baghdadi and Islamic State propagandists over the past year.
“I call on all Muslims who can harm the countries of the crusader coalition not to hesitate. We must now focus on moving the war to the heart of the homes and cities of the crusader West and specifically America,” al-Zawahiri said in the recording, according to Reuters.
Al-Zawahiri suggested that young Muslim jihadis in the West take the Tsarnaev and Kouachi brothers, who carried out the Boston Marathon bombings and Charlie Hebdo shootings in Paris, respectively, as examples to follow.
The al Qaeda leader also urges potential recruits to research al Qaeda’s official media arm, known as As Sahab, and to examine the terrorist network’s magazine, Inspire.
The latest issue of Inspire, which surfaced on the Internet last week, called for more “lone wolf” attacks — specifically targeting such U.S. economic leaders as Bill Gates, Michael Bloomberg and Charles and David Koch, as part of a larger goal of derailing the “revival of the American economy.”
While it was not clear when the Sept. 14 recording was made, there are references in it to the late Taliban leader Mullah Mohammed Omar as being alive, suggesting that it is at least two months old.
Omar’s death was announced by Afghanistan’s government in late July.
Al-Qaeda leader pledges allegiance to new Taliban chief. The same Taliban President Obama, the White House and Vice-President Joe Biden said were our friends. The same Taliban that tried to assassinate Malala and her friends on a school bus in Pakistan because they want girls to be educated too. The Taliban were angry Malala survived their assassination attempt AFTER they shot her in the head execution style. The same Taliban that have been terrorizing the people in Afghanistan and Pakistan with suicide bombers and ambush attacks daily.
