When And Why Was Saul’s Name Changed To Paul? Saul Hated The Followers Of Jesus Christ And Was Hunting And Killing Them UNTIL Jesus Christ Appeared To Him In Spirit Form On The Road.

Got Questions Ministries published When and why was Saul’s name changed to Paul? Saul to Paul. When and why was Saul’s name changed to Paul? Where in the Bible are told the reason For the Name change of Paul? Some point to Saul’s conversion on the road to Damascus, but that is not correct. So, where did Paul come from? In this video, Pastor Nelson with Bible Munch answers the question, " When and why was Saul’s name changed to Paul?”

[source: GotQuestions.org]

One of the often-thought-of “name changes” in the Bible is that of Saul to Paul. The change is commonly linked to Saul’s conversion on the Damascus Road, when the Lord Jesus commissioned him to take the gospel to the Gentiles (Acts 9:1–19). However, at the time of Saul’s conversion, Jesus still addressed him as “Saul.” Later, Jesus told Ananias to find “Saul” in Damascus and restore his sight. Acts 9 goes on to describe “Saul” as increasing in spiritual strength and understanding of Jesus as the Messiah. So, it was not Jesus who changed his name on the road to Damascus. If it wasn’t Jesus’ doing, how did the change from Saul to Paul happen, and when?

The answer is that Saul’s name was also Paul. The custom of dual names was common in those days. Acts 13:9 describes the apostle as “Saul, who was also called Paul.” From that verse on, Saul is always referred to in Scripture as “Paul.”

Paul was a Jew, born in the Roman city of Tarsus. He was proud of his Jewish heritage, as he describes in Philippians 3:5: “Circumcised on the eighth day, of the race of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrew parentage, in observance of the law a Pharisee.” So zealous and devout was he that persecuting Christians was the natural way for him to show his devotion. He chose to use his Hebrew name, Saul, until sometime after he began to believe in and preach Christ. After that time, as “the apostle to the Gentiles” (Romans 11:13), he used his Roman name, Paul. It would make sense for Paul to use his Roman name as he traveled farther and farther into the Gentile world.

It is interesting that Paul began using his Roman name on Cyprus when the Roman proconsul on that island was converted (Acts 13:12). This was during Paul’s first missionary journey and involved a high-ranking, idolatrous Gentile coming to faith in Christ. The fact that the proconsul’s name was Sergius Paulus has led some to think that Saul took the name Paulus/Paul as a reminder of this event, but the apostle’s name being the same as the proconsul’s is most likely a coincidence.

Using his Roman name was fitting for the man who proclaimed that he would become “all things to all people,” a Jew to the Jews in order to win the Jews, weak to the weak in order to win the weak, etc., all for the sake of the gospel (1 Corinthians 9:19–23). Adopting his Roman name would allow Paul to approach the Gentiles to whom he was sent and speak to them in their own language, becoming as one of them and setting them at ease. It is also possible that Paul gave up the use of his Hebrew name, Saul, with its regal connotation and chose to use his Roman name, Paul, meaning “little” or “small,” because he desired to became smaller in order to present Christ as greater (cf. John 3:30).

Unlike the changing of Simon’s name to Peter (Matthew 16:18–19), which Jesus did for a specific purpose, there is no reference in the Bible to Jesus’ changing Saul’s name to Paul.

The Risen Christ, Faith’s Reality. The Last Enemy Destroyed. Our Final Victory

Superbook published Paul Encounter With Jesus Christ On The Road to Damascus.
I'm sharing Saul's story so you know who he is. Saul was also called Paul and after his encounter with Jesus Christ would only be called Paul. Saul hated the followers of Jesus Christ and was hunting and killing them. Jesus Christ appeared to him in spirit form on his way to Damascus and was instantly changed. (emphasis mine)

The Risen Christ, Faith’s Reality

1 Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, 2 by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you—unless you believed in vain.

3 For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures, 5 and that He was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve. 6 After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain to the present, but some have fallen asleep. 7 After that He was seen by James, then by all the apostles. 8 Then last of all He was seen by me also, as by one born out of due time.

9 For I am the least of the apostles, who am not worthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not in vain; but I labored more abundantly than they all, yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me. 11 Therefore, whether it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed.

The Risen Christ, Our Hope

12 Now if Christ is preached that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ is not risen. 14 And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty. 15 Yes, and we are found false witnesses of God, because we have testified of God that He raised up Christ, whom He did not raise up—if in fact the dead do not rise. 16 For if the dead do not rise, then Christ is not risen. 17 And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins! 18 Then also those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. 19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable.

The Last Enemy Destroyed

20 But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21 For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive. 23 But each one in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, afterward those who are Christ’s at His coming. 24 Then comes the end, when He delivers the kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule and all authority and power. 25 For He must reign till He has put all enemies under His feet. 26 The last enemy that will be destroyed is death. 27 For “He has put all things under His feet.” But when He says “all things are put under Him,” it is evident that He who put all things under Him is excepted. 28 Now when all things are made subject to Him, then the Son Himself will also be subject to Him who put all things under Him, that God may be all in all.

Effects of Denying the Resurrection

29 Otherwise, what will they do who are baptized for the dead, if the dead do not rise at all? Why then are they baptized for the dead? 30 And why do we stand in jeopardy every hour? 31 I affirm, by the boasting in you which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily. 32 If, in the manner of men, I have fought with beasts at Ephesus, what advantage is it to me? If the dead do not rise, “Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die!”

33 Do not be deceived: “Evil company corrupts good habits.” 34 Awake to righteousness, and do not sin; for some do not have the knowledge of God. I speak this to your shame.

A Glorious Body

35 But someone will say, “How are the dead raised up? And with what body do they come?” 36 Foolish one, what you sow is not made alive unless it dies. 37 And what you sow, you do not sow that body that shall be, but mere grain—perhaps wheat or some other grain. 38 But God gives it a body as He pleases, and to each seed its own body.

39 All flesh is not the same flesh, but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of animals, another of fish, and another of birds.

40 There are also celestial bodies and terrestrial bodies; but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another. 41 There is one glory of the sun, another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for one star differs from another star in glory.

42 So also is the resurrection of the dead. The body is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption. 43 It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power. 44 It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. 45 And so it is written, “The first man Adam became a living being.” The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.

46 However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural, and afterward the spiritual. 47 The first man was of the earth, made of dust; the second Man is the Lord from heaven. 48 As was the man of dust, so also are those who are made of dust; and as is the heavenly Man, so also are those who are heavenly. 49 And as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly Man.

Our Final Victory

50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does corruption inherit incorruption. 51 Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed— 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. 54 So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.”
55 “O Death, where is your sting?
O Hades, where is your victory?”
56 The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.

Overcoming Confusion by the Power of The Holy Spirit

[source: The Holy Spirit]

Confusion comes of the devil, because there is no truth in him. He is a liar and a thief, and Lucifer will always try and confuse, confound, and mislead us. We can overcome confusion through the Word, and through the Blood of our precious Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Here are some scriptures that clearly define and contrast the works of the Father vs. the fallen angel Lucifer (not God’s opposite, but a fallen angel who was created).
Of the devil (Jesus here speaking to the Pharisees who interestingly enough were trying to cause confusion)…John 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him (i.e. – only lies and confusion). When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
However, we know that Jesus came to destroy ALL the works of the devil, even confusion and the obstruction of truth…
1 John 3:8 …For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.
God is a God of order. He created the universe and the very laws of science that hold everything in place. He gave us His Word and He gives peace.
1 Corinthians 14:33 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints. (here, the term peace can also be translated to mean a quiet and restful mind, not troubled by confusion or doubt).
We must not allow ourselves to concentrate on the confusion or the lies, but look instead to the author and finisher of our faith. Jesus spent little time being distracted by the works of the devil…in fact He would not allow the demonic to even speak but commanded them to “hold their peace” or to not speak forth things that would add confusion.
Luke 4:35 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. And when the devil had thrown him in the midst, he came out of him, and hurt him not.
Therefore, when confusion comes in, we must take authority over the confusion by pleading the Blood of Jesus Christ and by standing on what God PROMISES us as believers and children. We must be proactive in our warfare against confusion as Paul states…
2 Corinthians 10:3-5 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations (literally - confused thoughts), and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
We should not fear this warfare but have knowledge that through Christ there is love, power and clarity of thought.
2 Timothy 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
Praying in the Spirit helps to bring us out of these times of confusion because when we know not what to pray the Spirit will intercede…
Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
Pray without ceasing in the Spirit especially during those times when confusion abounds because we are promised…
Isaiah 59:19 … When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him.
Finally…be proactive in giving your mind a preventative remedy against the confusion returning…
Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

If you've been looking for a sign of good fortune or just a nod from the universe that something worthwhile is on the horizon, then you're in luck. On July 28, a positive new moon in Leo will bless us with some fresh, joyful energy, catapulting us into the rest of Leo season and the month of August.

"Leo season is one of the two times of the year in which solar, masculine, and yin energy is at its highest, and as the sun and the moon meet here, we can align our actions to respond to some of our deepest desires," says Narayana Montรบfar, senior astrologer for Astrology.com and author of Moon Signs: Unlock Your Inner Luminary Power. "This year, Leo season is set to bring an incredible amount of change, and this new moon can also help us align our lives to the shifts the universe is requesting from us."

Montรบfar says that this new moon will be quite the fortunate one thanks to Leo's bold and unapologetic vibe. "It brings a huge dose of can-do energy that we can channel towards projects and activities that can bring us joy," she says. "If we have been feeling our energy dispersing in too many directions, this lunation is the perfect time to call back our energy to focus it on ourselves."

The main themes of this new moon are about reconnecting with our confidence, authenticity, and personal ambitions and goals, according to astrologer Stephanie Campos. "New moons are all about fresh starts and are the perfect time to call in new manifestations and desires," she says. Take stock of your wildest wants and dreams and act on them — new moons are always about change and beginnings, but this one is rich with auspicious energy.

One of the reasons this new moon is so magical is that it's connecting with Jupiter, the Planet of Optimism and Luck — it will be super-charged and preparing to go retrograde just a few hours after the new moon occurs, according to Montรบfar. "This can really set our minds to the future, helping us align our goals to the end of 2022 and the beginning of 2023, which is when Jupiter will be direct again. This new moon is free from challenging aspects, so we can really think big!

Lisa Stardust, author of Saturn Return Survival Guide and The Astrology Deck, says this connection will "heighten the fiery sentiments of the day," but also that it's calling for us to fully embrace our true passions and desires. "With Jupiter connecting with the new moon, it will give us a chance to really tap in to our hearts and understand the innermost sentiments that we have for ourselves," she says. Stardust advises us to spend the day of the new moon doing what we love with the people that we love — whatever that means for you.

This new moon is also in conjunction with the sun in Leo. "As a result, our emotions and feelings will harmonize with our egos," says Iva Naskova, astrologer at the Nebula app. "Therefore, we will be able to express our emotions freely and agree to prioritize our needs." During this astrological time, allow yourself to let self-care come first. It's not a selfish thing to do — in fact, we all need to be a bit focused on our own lives a little bit more. Let yourself indulge in a midday nap or finally take that mental health day off from work. Naskova says this new moon is an ideal time to reflect on yourself, discover what makes you happy, and then do more of that.

Although this new moon is mainly positive, there is a transit to look out for: Mercury, the Planet of Communication squaring Uranus, the Planet of Rebellion, and according to astrologer Leslie Hale, this means we should be expecting the unexpected. "Things may not turn out exactly as planned, but sometimes the most memorable experiences are unplanned and spontaneous," she saya. "It will be important to be flexible and not set plans in stone as something may change or there could be an unexpected opportunity you could take advantage of." Going with the flow is often a good idea, but this week it'll be more important than ever. Loosen up a bit — you never know where life may take you.

If there was ever a time to make the most of a lunar event, it's now. Do what you can to act on your dreams, recharge your confidence levels, and go after what you want — then, you'll be able to reap the benefits for the rest of the summer.

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said 25 people have been confirmed dead across 5 counties in the state's devastating flooding, as of 11 a.m. on Saturday, saying the number is "likely to increase."

"That number will continue to grow and to be refined. Remember we don't have cell service in some areas so please be patient as we get new information or if it changes," Beshear said during a press conference Saturday.

Beshear said the state can now confirm only four children are dead in the flooding, after he had said on Friday that he learned six children's' bodies had been recovered.

"If there is one piece of good news, we now believe there are only four children in this group, and not six. The additional two children that were reported to us have turned out to be adults. Now, those are still two people who we have lost and we grieve for them," Beshear said.

There are more than 18,000 power outages being reported. Power should be restored in Johnson, Magoffin and Martin counties by Saturday night, 95% restored in Floyd and Pike Counties by Sunday night and restored into next week for Breathitt, Knott, Letcher and Perry counties, Beshear said.

Beshear said this is still an emergency situation, and the state is still in search and rescue mode, saying the information is going to change as officials learn more.

"We don't lose this many people in flooding. This is a real tough one," Beshear said.

"We continue to pray for the families that have suffered an unfathomable loss. Some having lost almost everyone in their household," Beshear said.

As of Saturday morning, the Kentucky National guard had rescued 404 people over the last couple of days via aircraft. The Tennessee National Guard, which has been helping with the recovery, has rescued 224 additional people and the West Virginia National Guard has rescued 36 people, according to Beshear.

The state's national guard has rescued 19 people and two dogs by boat, Beshear said. Kentucky police has assisted or are assisting in 624 water rescues and the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife has assisted in 125 water rescues, according to Beshear.

"It is a really hard thing right now with how wide the destruction is in areas that are impacted to get any firm number on people that are missing," Beshear said, asking people to report missing people.

Beshear said the river water is down 10 feet, and officials are no longer concerned that the Pambula Lake Dam, where they thought there may be a breach.

On Friday, Beshear said "a lot of people" remain unaccounted for.

"We're going to do our best to find them all," Beshear said, without providing a number of the missing.

Beshear toured the devastation by helicopter on Friday and called it the worst flooding he's seen since being in office.

The governor anticipated that authorities may be updating the number of deceased for "several weeks."

On Thursday, Beshear called it "one of the worst, most devastating" floods in the state's history and said he anticipates this will be one of the deadliest floods in Kentucky in "a very long time."

The flooding hit Kentucky late Wednesday, pounding the state with 2 to 5 inches of rain.

Kentucky is combating washed out roads, destroyed homes and flooded schools, according to the governor.

Thousands of residents are expected to lose their homes, he said.

More than 294 people have been rescued from floodwaters in eastern Kentucky so far and that number will likely rise, Beshear said.

The rain may return to Kentucky late Sunday through early next week, but significant rainfall isn't expected.

"While rain totals are not expected to be as high, flooding still remains a concern due to saturated grounds," the governor tweeted.

President Joe Biden approved a disaster declaration and is receiving updates "very regularly," White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Friday.

"Our hearts break for the families of those who have lost their lives or are missing, and to all those who have been impacted," she said.

A relief fund set up by the state has garnered $684,688.09 in donations, Beshear said. The first expenditure out of the fund will be paying for funerals, he said.

"We care about you and we can't imagine the grief you are going through right now," Beshear said, addressing those impacted.

A good bit of Appalachian history and arts got soaked in the record flooding in Eastern Kentucky. In Whitesburg, water may have breached the vault at Appalshop, where the arts and media collective stored more than 20,000 items, including decades worth of film, oral histories, videotapes of musical performances, photo collections and other records. Driven by rainfall of eight inches or more in places in just a few hours, the North Fork of the Kentucky River in Whitesburg swelled to more than six feet above the old record flood, inundating downtown.

“Some of the film from Appalshop was all through the streets and everything,” said Austin Caudill, 24, who lives downtown. “We could lose not just businesses but history.”

In neighboring Knott County, Troublesome Creek gushed out of its banks and flooded buildings at another institution that seeks to preserve and further traditional Appalachian culture, the Hindman Settlement School.

High water damaged the administrative offices, housing and classroom spaces, a historic cabin and the school’s archives, said the executive director of the school, Mike Anderson.

The archive collection included books, dulcimers, photos, old newspapers and handwritten journals from local residents recounting life in the mountainous coal county.

Staffers saved the musical instruments, but it’s likely some of the archival materials can’t be salvaged, Anderson said Saturday.

“I think that’s the biggest heartbreak of this whole thing,” Anderson said.

DAMAGE AT APPALACHIAN SCHOOL OF LUTHIERY

Water also reached a depth of more than three feet in Appalachian School of Luthiery near the settlement school in downtown Hindman, which trains people in substance-abuse recovery to make stringed instruments such as dulcimers.

Paul Williams, 65, who taught at the school, said when he stopped in on Thursday, the first day of the flood, he just looked around, cried and left.

“I couldn’t stand it,” he said.

He was back on Friday to look through the damage. His fiddle was still missing, but some friends’ fiddles were there, and he found a carved headstock for a mandolin he’d been working on.

A local man stopped in to mourn the loss of the trove of beautiful, handcrafted instruments, and asked about a guitar with a birdseye maple neck he’d had his eye on.

“It’s probably still here,” Williams said, pointing to a room with a mass of tangled wood. “I just don’t know what kind of condition it’s in.”

Next to the settlement school, flooding damaged the Troublesome Creek Stringed Instrument Co., including its factory, sand many valuable instruments, said Bill Weinberg, who in on the board.

The company employs more than a dozen people in making dulcimers, guitars and mandolins. The office manager set up a GoFundMe account for donations.

“I’m just astounded they got the damage they did,” he said. “It’s a mess.”

ARCHIVES ARE A “TREASURE”

Appalshop was established in 1969 to train young people in film-making, improve the economy and provide a contrary narrative to negative stereotypes about the region.

It has evolved in more than 50 years to include a record label, a theater, a radio station, a solar project and community development work, but a key part of the mission remains to “document, disseminate, and revitalize the lasting traditions and contemporary creativity of Appalachia.”

The materials in its archives cover nearly a century of life and work in the region, according to Appalshop, including coal mining, labor strikes, religious practices, out-migration, farming, traditional folk arts, musicians, storytellers, politics, and environmental activism.

Dee Davis, who worked at Appalshop for 25 years and whose wife, filmmaker Mimi Pickering, works there, called the archive “precious cargo” in an NPR interview this week.

“That’s — those are the stories of miners and quilters and people who have built this place and learned the lessons the hard way,” said Davis, now president of Center for Rural Strategies. “And it’s really important information. And it’s a treasure.”

Caroline Rubens, director of the archive, said the vault was likely breached by water.

“It’s probably all wet up to a certain point,” she said.

One of her particular concerns was extra footage from published documentaries that didn’t make it into the final film.

“For every documentary that Appalshop made, there are hours and hours of footage that was shot. We have interviews with musicians, artisans, politicians; everyday local residents talking about what they care about or what makes them angry,” Rubens said. “They’ve got people talking about social justice issues, their love for this place and the region, how it can be painful to see themselves misrepresented – a lot of those voices are in there.”

Rubens said those voices can help change the narrative about an Appalachian culture that has often been misunderstood and badly portrayed. Preserving those items is what drew her to the profession and this place, she said.

She said the final cuts for many of Appalshop’s films have been backed up physically and are in storage, but much of the other material in the archive had not been preserved digitally.

A former Appalshop staffer offered to round up high-grade dehumidifiers to help salvage material. Ten were on the way, Rubens said Friday.

On Saturday, Meredith Scalos, spokeswoman for the organization, said staffers were still assessing the archive contents and wouldn’t likely know the extent of the damage for some time.

STAFFERS RUSH TO HELP HINDMAN SETTLEMENT SCHOOL

Hindman Settlement School was founded in 1902 to provide education in what was then an isolated spot in the mountains.

It was among a collection of settlement schools, mission schools and academies, some secular and some church-run, set up in Appalachia in the late 1800s and early 1900s to educate children at a time when public schools were scarce or hard to reach for many kids.

Improved roads and the spread of public education ultimately reduced the need for such places.

Hindman Settlement School stopped boarding students in 1980, but it and some others, including Pine Mountain Settlement School in nearby Harlan County, adapted with new programs.

Hindman Settlement School, for instance, provides dyslexia education for young people and hosts the celebrated Appalachian Writers’ Workshop.

It also has a writing program for high-school students; operates a literary imprint in partnership with the University Press of Kentucky to tell Appalachian stories by people in the region; and provides folk-arts education in schools and an after-school program to teach old-time music to young people.

The school overlooks Troublesome Creek, but is on higher ground and had never suffered significant flooding in its 120 history, said Anderson, the executive director.

“You just can’t imagine the water getting this high,” he said.

Water reached a depth of five feet in the office of the school.

The wife of an employee fell and broke her leg as as she and others tried to get to campus buildings on the hillside above the creek, Anderson said, and 12 cars owned by participants in the workshop were swept away.

Staffers Josh Mullins and Sarah Kate Morgan tried to save items, grabbing computers as the water rose quickly, but they didn’t have time to carry boxes of items out of the archives.

Four instruments got wet, but employees dried them. Anderson said it appears they will be okay.

The school sees its mission as serving the community, and it was doing that Saturday. Volunteers were handing out water and the school was providing housing and meals for 30 people whose homes were damaged or destroyed, with more expected, Anderson said.

As for the archives, it’s unlikely that decades worth of soggy newspapers can be saved, and the school may lose some historical books that can’t be replaced, Anderson said.

But Anderson, a photographer, said he believed photos from the archives can be cleaned and saved.

Materials from the archives were still in wet storage boxes on Saturday. That was on purpose; removing papers and photos could make them stick together as they started to dry.

SOAKED MATERIALS TO BE FROZEN TO HELP SAVE THEM

Saturday, people were loading boxes of archival material to take to Eastern Tennessee University, which has a freezer to keep them in — to keep them from molding — and resources to help save them, Anderson said.

For materials that wouldn’t fit on the truck, the plan was to have volunteers familiar with saving flood-damaged records take them.

The state Department of Libraries and Archives had provided advice on putting documents in freezers to prevent them from molding and dry them, Anderson said.

Anderson said the soaked storage boxes will have to be broken apart to get materials out without damaging them.

Anderson said the school had flood insurance, but it’s not clear if it will cover all the losses. The school has set up a page for donations.

What’s not in doubt is that the school will clean up and get back in business, Anderson said.

“We haven’t lost the spirit and the desire to serve our community,” he said. “I think there is a love of this organization. I don’t think people will let it fade away.”

USA: Severe Thunderstorms Moved Through Las Vegas Causing Major Flooding In Several Areas.

NBC News published July 30, 2022: Severe Storms Cause Flooding In Las Vegas. Severe thunderstorms moved through Las Vegas causing major flooding in several areas. The Caesars Palace Casino also experienced some flooding as water seeped through the ceiling.

Cleanup efforts continued Saturday after monsoonal rain in Las Vegas caused water to cascade from casino ceilings and flooded street intersections across the city this week.

Videos posted online showed water pouring from ceilings at Caesars Palace and Planet Hollywood resorts on the Las Vegas Strip two days ago. Water also swamped the carpet at the Circa Resort and Casino after rain started sipping in through their sportsbook video wall.

Scattered power outages were also reported in places including the downtown Fremont Street Experience casino pedestrian mall. At least 16,000 people suffered power outages in the Las Vegas area Friday night, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

While only 0.3 inches of rain was registered at the Las Vegas airport late Thursday, more than 1 inch fell just 1 mile away at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, according to a local National Weather Service official. Little precipitation easily creates flooding in Las Vegas since the water doesn't seep into the desert terrain.

Nearby wind gusts peaked at 71 mph and toppled trees. One of those trees fell on an apartment complex in Las Vegas, displacing more than 30 people who live there. Staff and volunteers from the American Red Cross in Nevada opened up a temporary shelter for displaced residents Friday night.

Las Vegas firefighters responded to 330 calls for service and swift-water teams rescued at least seven people, city spokesman Jace Radke said. Clark County firefighters responded to six water rescue calls, county spokeswoman Stacey Welling said.

Officials said no injuries or widespread damage was reported.

Rapid runoff from sunbaked lots flooded street intersections, prompting vehicles to creep through high water near Las Vegas Boulevard and Main Street. Flood-control channels turned to roiling torrents.

Silverado Ranch Boulevard between Decatur and Arville is expected to remain closed during the weekend as contractors working on construction projects in the area continue clean-up efforts following the flooding.

Clark County also had crews working to remove fallen trees from local roadways.

Monsoonal storm activity is common in Las Vegas during this time of year.

"It’s monsoon season which brings thunderstorms and can lead to flash flooding that, while severe, generally disappears quickly," Las Vegas City Hall tweeted Saturday.

While some rain is expected in Las Vegas Saturday, no monsoonal activity is expected in the area.

But monsoonal moisture is expected to spread across western Nevada, “resulting in a considerable increase in shower and thunderstorm chances during the afternoon and evening hours Sunday through Tuesday," the National Weather Service said in a forecast Saturday.

A similar process has actually been going on for decades by using aircraft, cannons, and now drones to push silver iodide up into the atmosphere to heat clouds and make them rain-producing. Silver iodide has the same crystalized structure as ice, but it could be dangerous to aquatic life. So in Dubai, theytook a fleet of drones into cloud cover to use electricity, instead of silver iodide, to heat the clouds. The Port of Fujairah reopened after extreme weather conditions shuttered the port overnight, though oil operations remain disrupted with some berths still out of service,

All of the oil berths at Oil Terminal 1 were reopened but some of the berths at Oil Terminal 2 were still shut by late-afternoon Thursday, Khalil Ibrahim, deputy general manager at the port, said by phone. The United Arab Emirates port closed Wednesday evening as a precaution because of an “exceptional” weather event, he said.

Abu Dhabi National Co. halted operations at its terminal in Fujairah, shifting oil lifting to Jebel Dhanna, a company spokesman said in a message. Argus Media earlier reported that GPS Chemoil LLC, which operates terminals and bunkering at Fujairah, declared force majeure at its oil storage facilities.

Fujairah is the world’s second-largest refueling port for ships and a major hub for crude and oil products storage. The emirate very rarely experiences excessive rainfall -- particularly in the summer months.

The excessive rainfall wasn’t caused by cloud seeding, the commonly-used practice in the UAE of spraying particles from planes into clouds to trigger rainfall, said a NCM press officer.

Dubai: If you are heading out, be prepared for a hot and humid Sunday with rainfall in some parts of the UAE.

According to the National Center of Meteorology (NCM), skies across the UAE are looking sunny to partly cloudy, with some clouds associated with rain over the eastern and southern region by the afternoon, such as in Fujairah and Abu Dhabi.

The NCM issued yellow and amber alerts due to the cloud formation.

The NCM usually conducts cloud seeding when convective clouds are monitored, to maximise rainfall in the region.

Strong winds are expected to repeatedly blow, at a speed of 15 –25 km/h, reaching up to 40 km/h at times

The winds are expected to blow dust and sand into the air, especially during the day, reducing horizontal visibility.

Drivers should be careful on the road as the dust hinders visibility. Those who suffer from allergies should also take precautions when going outside.

The maximum humidity is expected to reach 80 per cent.

Temperatures are expected to be hot. On average temperatures are expected to be in the mid 30s with maximum temperatures hitting 48°C.

Dubai is currently at 30°C with mostly sunny skies.

Additionally, you might want to rethink your plans if you were planning to go to the beach as the sea is expected to be slightly rough.

Sri Lanka Crisis: Sri Lanka, a country of 22 million people, is under the grip of an unprecedented economic turmoil, leaving millions struggling to buy food, medicine, fuel and other essentials.

Colombo: Sri Lanka will restrict fuel imports for the next 12 months as it is facing a severe shortage of foreign exchange, Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera has said while announcing a rationing system for the distribution of fuel across the crisis-hit island nation.

Sri Lanka, a country of 22 million people, is under the grip of an unprecedented economic turmoil, leaving millions struggling to buy food, medicine, fuel and other essentials.

The severe foreign exchange shortage has hampered the import of fuel and other essentials in the country reeling under the worst economic crisis in seven decades.

Taking to Twitter on Monday, Wijesekera said a QR system has been introduced as the daily fuel demand cannot be fulfilled.

"QR system was introduced since the daily fuel demand cannot be fulfilled. Due to Forex issues, Fuel imports have to be restricted in the next 12 months," he said.

"Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) has never distributed Fuel daily to Every single Fuel Station. Practically not possible even when stocks are unlimited," he said.

With the government hard pressed to pay for fuel imports due to the severe forex crisis, it introduced a fuel pass scheme on Saturday where the issues would be rationed under a limited weekly quantity.

Since June 27 the government has stopped fuel supplies and restricted essential services.

In a series of tweets, the minister explained the implementation of the National Fuel Pass.

"The National Fuel License (QR) will be implemented from July 26 at several CEYPETCO and the Lankan Indian Oil Company (LIOC) petrol stations across the country. This system will be in effect until August 1 with the last digits of the number plate," he said.

Filling stations not equipped or having technical difficulties will follow the last digit system and fuel quota allocation until the technical issues are rectified, he said, adding that 60 per cent of the locations had already been equipped and tested and will be given a priority in fuel distribution.

"All petrol station owners of CEYPETCO and LIOC are requested to adopt QR system immediately and distribution will be strictly enforced to fuel stations with the QR facilities by 1st of August. We request the public to register with National Fuel Pass and support the initiative," he said.

"Options will be given to users to register multiple vehicles with their business registration by the end of the week and to Government institutes to register. Divisional secretaries will be given access to the platform to register generators, gardening equipment and other equipment," he said.

Wijesekera said the police department and divisional secretaries will be given access to register three-wheelers, allocating each three-wheeler to one specific fuel station.

"Other services such as Health, Agriculture, Fisheries, Tourism, Industries and service providing sectors will be given access to the system to register their requirements and allocation of vehicles at fuel stations," he said.

"From the 1st of August only the QR system quota will be in place and the last digit of the number plate system and other allocations will be invalid. National Youth Corp and National Youth Council members and volunteers will assist the program at fuel stations for the next 10 days," the minister said.

In crisis-hit Sri Lanka, many incidents of violence have been reported at fuel queues and nearly 20 people have died of exhaustion after spending several days continuously in the fuel queues.

Since the beginning of this year, Sri Lanka relied on an Indian line of credit to fund fuel purchases.

Sri Lanka, which relied on an Indian credit line for fuel imports till February, has now exhausted the facility. The last fuel shipment under the Indian Credit Line arrived on June 16.

Sri Lanka's fuel and energy sectors are the worst hit by the forex shortages triggered by the unprecedented economic crisis.

The government declared bankruptcy in mid-April by refusing to honour its international debt. The situation created a thriving black market where people paid to secure a place in the queue and fuel was sold 4 times higher than the legal retail price.

Former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa was forced out of power last week due to his poor handling of the economy.
DailyFT published July 26, 2022: Fuel Pass QR code from 1st August. Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera yesterday said, “From the 1 August only the QR system fuel quota will be in place, while the last digit of the number plate system and other allocations will be invalid."

The Daily FT is Sri Lanka’s first and only national daily business paper. With its value proposition “Be Empowered”, the Daily FT caters to the new economy of post-war Sri Lanka, with a sectoral focus as well as local and global politics, business, social issues, sports and lifestyle.

Sri Lanka’s National Fuel Pass registration process has been changed to facilitate businesses with multiple vehicles to register all their vehicles with under their business registration number, Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera has said.

The portal had been upgraded after a raft of complaints received during the trial period and thus the system has now changed to cater for the owners with multiple vehicles using their business registration number.

Earlier, only one vehicle was allowed to be registered under one business registration number.

The minister also said that steps are being taken to supply fuel for machinery.

“Fuel requirements for machinery must be registered with the respective Divisional Secretariats with the weekly fuel requirements,” he tweeted.

Sri Lanka started the online registration to implement fuel rationing through the National Fuel Pass as the country is unable to cater for the demand due to forex shortages after two years of money printing and continued monetary accommodation for state salaries.

Under the rationing system, each vehicle will be allocated a weekly quota of fuel.

As of 4 pm on Thursday (28), around 70% of the fuel stations islandwide have tested the QR code under the national fuel pass in a week and 464 Stations have used the facility on July 29 for 122,469 transactions, the minister said.

“4.4 Million users registered. The program will go National on the 1st of August. the National Fuel Pass QR facility since the 21st of July. 464 Stations have used the facility today for 122,469 transactions. 4.4 Million users registered. The program will go National on the 1st of August,” the minister said.

Cabinet Spokesperson Bandula Gunawardena early this week said Sri Lanka’s fuel bill for 2022 is estimated at 6.7 billion US dollars, up from 2.7 billion US dollars in 2015. (Colombo/July28/2022)

THE powers of the World Economic Forum have come under scrutiny on Wednesday, July 13, after eager internet users spotted the WEF had deleted an article from Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

The article deleted on the WEF website is called – Sri Lanka PM: This is how I will make my country rich again by 2025 – and was searched for by people following the collapse of the country’s economy, which resulted in HUGE riots and the Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa fleeing to the Maldives.

In the article, published on August 29, 2018, Wickremesinghe said that the country’s “economic policy, Vision 2025, is firmly embedded in several principles, including a social market economy that delivers economic dividends to all.”

He added: “In the first place, we need to ensure we have a skill pool that matches the job market’s demands.

“Sri Lanka’s education system is being transformed through progressive and important policy reform: the minimum length of schooling has been increased to 13 years, while better education is being brought to rural areas through the Nearest School Is the Best School programme, and Sri Lanka is investing in more teachers and better training.

“Also, opportunities for vocational training in selected areas during school education will be introduced. Further, we have taken action to empower new and innovative ideas by strengthening the intellectual property regime in Sri Lanka.

“The plan for an ‘Empowered Sri Lanka’ identifies the priorities of raising incomes, ensuring employment and housing for all, and improving the quality of life for all citizens.”

The World Economic Forum is an international non-governmental and lobbying organisation based in Cologny, canton of Geneva, Switzerland.

Since the article was sent to the Wayback Machine, many social media users have questioned the WEF’s involvement in the country’s affairs and whether they hold too much power in world affairs.

One user on Twitter said: “Strangely enough, the WEF have now removed this article from their website. I can’t imagine why.

“Remember, always listen to the WEF. They really know what they are talking about…… No, honestly, they’re ‘experts.'”
While another person wrote: “The WEF has too much influence on world affairs.”
