GALT, Calif. — A nursing home in Galt is accused of ignoring a major red flag when it hired a certified nursing assistant “with a known criminal history of abuse,” according to records that KCRA 3 Investigates obtained from the California Department of Public Health (CDPH).
About six weeks after Rancho Seco Care Center hired Justin Atkinson, he was accused of sexually assaulting several of the elderly residents he was supposed to be helping.
And concerns about care at the nursing home did not end there.
“I'm horrified. These people are defenseless,” said Carole Herman, president and founder of Foundation Aiding the Elderly (FATE).
Sexual Assault Investigation
“When something pops up like this, it is alarming. And we put all our resources to it,” said Lt. Brian Azevedo with Galt Police.
Officers responded to Rancho Seco Care Center on January 24 after the nursing home reported allegations that an employee sexually assaulted a resident.
Police began with interviews, trying to talk to everyone living there.
“You're dealing with people that range in age from, you know, 50, 60, up to their 80s or 90s,” Lt. Azevedo said. “You're dealing with different physical impairments, different cognitive impairments.”
Detectives also interviewed Atkinson.
“During a review of the police report,” CDPH said it showed Atkinson confirmed he sexually assaulted six nursing home residents.
In court, Atkinson pleaded no contest to seven felonies, including sexual battery of a disabled person and lewd acts by a caretaker upon a dependent adult.
He is now serving nine years in prison. However, Atkinson is not the only one facing consequences.
State Regulators Fine Nursing Home
“Not only should the perpetrator be held accountable, but the people that hired him,” Herman said. “They knew that that person should not have been in that facility, and they allowed it.”
KCRA 3 Investigates obtained CDPH records that allege Rancho Seco Care Center knew Atkinson had a “criminal history of abuse” and hired him anyway.
A CDPH report states that a background check revealed that Atkinson pleaded guilty to a 2019 charge of "knowingly touching another person with the intent to injure, insult or provoke."
The nursing home's administrator, Chelsie Mott, “confirmed she was aware of CNA 1's previous charges and chose to hire him and stated, ‘... [CNA 1] explained it as a domestic abuse,’” according to CDPH.
“He should have never been hired,” Herman said.
Investigative Reporter Lysée Mitri went to Rancho Seco Care Center to ask Mott for an on-camera interview. Upon speaking, Mott told Mitri that she would check with legal first and then get back to her. Mott never followed up with a response to the interview request.
“They were responsible for placing those patients, very compromised patients, in harm's way,” Herman said.
CDPH alleges that Rancho Seco Care Center failed to protect the residents' right to be free from abuse, and that it then failed to thoroughly investigate after residents reported abuse.
In May, the state hit Rancho Seco with nine citations, totaling $225,000.
“I’ve never seen this many citations in this short period of time,” Herman said.
Additional Allegations of Federal Regulation Violations
Since the reports of sexual assault, CDPH has identified 26 more federal regulation violations, including more failures to prevent abuse. CDPH inspections detail multiple incidents of residents hitting each other, for example.
“I've seen the fights, yeah,” Triva Lewis said.
Her sister is a resident at Rancho Seco Care Center.
Lewis believes the place is understaffed, putting workers and residents at risk.
“You just don't know what's going to go on from one day to the next,” she said.
She worries about her sister often.
“She's developmentally and physically disabled.”
She is certainly not alone in her concerns. The number of complaints and reported incidents at Rancho Seco is four times higher than the statewide average so far this year, according to CDPH’s website.
“I don't sleep at night. I can't even tell you when I slept last. She is on my mind 24 hours because of her disability,” Lewis said.
As KCRA 3 Investigates spoke with Lewis on a public sidewalk outside the nursing home, Administrator Chelsea Mott approached with two other employees.
They said they came outside to see what was going on.
“They were asking me questions,” Lewis said.
“Yeah, we're just talking to her about her experience,” Mitri said.
This took place about a week after Mitri first introduced herself to Mott, informing her about the KCRA 3 News story and requesting an on-camera interview.
“Were you able to talk to your attorney?” Mitri asked.
“We have no comment still at this time,” Mott said.
She and the other employees then turned around and walked away.
Lewis said she plans to continue speaking up as an advocate for the residents at Rancho Seco Care Center.
“I'm going to keep fighting until something happens,” she said.
Lawsuit Against Nursing Home and Owners
Now, concerns extend beyond just Rancho Seco Care Center.
The California Attorney General is actually suing the nursing home and its parent company, Sweetwater Care.
The civil lawsuit in San Diego County Superior Court states that Sweetwater Care has engaged in "unlawful, unfair and fraudulent business practices," putting millions toward profits instead of using that money to meet minimum staffing levels required by law.
KCRA 3 Investigates reached out to Sweetwater Care and its owners, Aaron Chesley and James Gamett, for comment. No one responded.
In addition to that pending court case, Rancho Seco Care Center is taking CDPH to court to challenge the $225,000 in citations.
“CDPH abused its discretion and exceeded its authority” by issuing nine citations for one alleged violation, the nursing home alleges in court documents.
Rancho Seco states that the alleged violations did not occur and that, regardless, the incident in question did not meet the criteria for a Class A citation.
The nursing facility rejects the idea that “the alleged violation resulted in an imminent danger that death or serious harm to patients of a long-term health care facility would result therefrom or a substantial probability that death or serious harm to patients of a long-term health care facility would result therefrom.”
Rancho Seco Care Center will not have to pay any civil penalties until all appeals have been exhausted, and the outcome is decided in court.

NASSAU COUNTY, Long Island -- Officials in Nassau County said they have arrested 42 people over four days in one of the largest gang takedowns in the county's history.
The arrests took place last week between Wednesday and Sunday for a variety of crimes, including attempted murder, assault and robbery.
The defendants allegedly attacked victims with knives, machetes and pipes in two incidents from 2024, including a machete attack at a soccer game last October and another at a laundromat in December.
Of the 42 arrested, officials say 25 were gang members -- mostly MS-13.
"We want to send a clear message in Nassau County that gang activity will not be tolerated," said Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman.
On Tuesday, Blakeman was joined by members of ICE, Nassau County police and the district attorney's office.
"These arrests are a testament to how committed we are in Nassau County to dismantling gangs and their toxic influence in our communities," said District Attorney Anne Donnelly.
Guns, knives, machetes and even miniature axes were seized during the takedown.
Officials say 33 of the offenders are now in ICE custody without bond, pending removal.
"If there was somebody that was apprehended, and that individual was going to be released because of the cashless bail laws, we notified ICE, came and picked them up, so that they would not continue to do harm to our community," Blakeman said.
ICE enforcement removal operations assistant director Brian Flanagan said "some of ICE's worst of the worst was captured here in Nassau County."
A spike in gang crimes, like shootings and stabbings, prompted the takedown.
Nassau police say the most egregious was a robbery and attempted murder at Hempstead's Kennedy Park.
"Four MS-13 guys confronted a kid who suffered from a little cognitive issues, they confronted him as he was an 18th Street Gang Member, the kid was not," said Nassau Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder.
Ryder said the gang members chased the victim on foot for two miles into Roosevelt until he made it to safety. Police say they arrested two of the four suspects.
"I'm going to take you back to 2017 when MS-13 was killing gang members, other gang members or those that refused to join the gang, and you remember we covered about nine bodies buried throughout Nassau County all been hacked up, decapitated and buried in shallow graves."
Police say overall gang violence is down.

A grand jury indicted 11 members and associates of the Hoover Criminal Gang for sex trafficking children and adults along South Los Angeles' Figueroa Corridor, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
In addition to sex trafficking crimes, the 31-count indictment charges the following 11 people with one count of conspiracy to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act:
[BLEEP]
The Justice Department described Armstead as the de facto leader of the 112 set, an offshoot of the Hoover Criminal Gang, and named her as the lead defendant in the RICO case. Federal and local law enforcement arrested all of the suspects except Isrel, as of Wednesday afternoon.
If convicted, the defendants could face a maximum sentence of life in prison.
"Today's operation is the first step in returning the Figueroa Corridor – long known as prostitution haven – back to its residents who have suffered for too long while criminals were allowed to run amok," Acting U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli said.
Federal prosecutors claimed the gang had controlled the sex trafficking and prostitution ring along the Figueroa Corridor between February 2021 and August 2025. Investigators said the gang recruited new victims through social media or in person, primarily focusing on vulnerable women and girls with financial or emotional struggles, some of whom were runaways or foster youth. The Justice Department said the gang provided the women with drugs, gave them false promises of a luxurious lifestyle and, in some cases, beat them.
"The exploitation of vulnerable women and children through sex trafficking is one of the most heinous crimes our society faces," said Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell. "The victims in this case – many of them minors, runaways, or from the foster care system – were preyed upon by individuals who sought to profit from their pain."
The suspects forced sex workers to give up everything they had made, according to the indictment. The Justice Department said the women who refused or disobeyed were either beaten, berated, humiliated and starved of affection, drugs or food.
Several of the women were branded with tattoos of some of the suspects' nicknames.
"Human trafficking is among the most heinous crimes perpetuated throughout the world," said Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Los Angeles Special Agent in Charge Eddy Wang. "No human should be for sale – not here in Los Angeles or anywhere in our society. Today's operation is a result of our commitment to identify and rescue victims of trafficking and to hold accountable these criminal organizations exploiting them."

Wednesday August 13, 2025
LOS ANGELES - Federal and local law enforcement have arrested six members and associates of the South Los Angeles-based Hoover Criminal Gang on federal charges, accusing them of running a sex trafficking ring on the city's Figueroa Corridor.
The backstory: According to the indictment, members and associates of the gang controlled sex trafficking and prostitution on the Figueroa Corridor from February 2021 to August 2025.
They allegedly acted as pimps by managing victims, renting motel rooms, and using violence, humiliation, and other tactics to discipline those who disobeyed.
The indictment also claims that the gang recruited victims, often vulnerable minors, through social media and in-person and that they were sometimes branded with the pimp's tattoo.
"Victims were required to remit all proceeds from commercial sex dates to the pimp. A victim who refused or who otherwise disobeyed a pimp faced discipline, including assaults, berating, public humiliation, and withholding of affection, drugs or food. Victims also were branded with tattoos of a defendant’s moniker," the indictment read.
According to court documents, the pimps targeted vulnerable minors and young women, particularly those with financial or emotional struggles, or those who had run away from home.
"Pimps also plied their victims with drugs ranging from oxycodone to amphetamines," the indictment stated. "Victims were recruited via false promises of a luxurious lifestyle, intimidation, and actual or threatened violence."
In one instance in April 2024, two of the alleged pimps used rooms at a South LA motel to traffic their victims, one of whom was 14-years-old. One of the alleged pumps, Amaya Armstead, allegedly gave the victim – who was sex trafficked for at least three consecutive days – condoms to use for commercial sex dates with "Johns" or sex buyers.
What we know: The following individuals are charged with one count of conspiracy to violate the Racketeer-Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act:
[BLEEP]
Dig deeper: The indictment described the Hoovers as a criminal street gang formed in the late 1970s and later became part of the larger "Westside Crips" umbrella.
The Westside Crips eventually split into two factions – the Gangster Crips and the Neighborhood Crips -- and the Hoovers aligned themselves with the Gangster Crips.
From the late 1970s to the early 1990s, the Hoovers were known as "Hoover Gangster Crips" or "HGC." To differentiate themselves from other gangs in the area and to establish their own reputation, Hoovers factions or "sets" dropped the "Gangster Crip," from their identity and became the "Hoover Criminal Gangsters" or simply the "Hoover Criminals."
"The more sovereign Hoovers gang identity gave rise to the especially dangerous Hoovers mentality of being an ‘Everybody Killer,’ or ‘EBK,’ meaning that members will kill anyone, or commit violence against anyone, who stands in their way of making money or promoting the Enterprise," court documents stated.
"This created an atmosphere of intimidation that allowed the Hoovers to operate with virtual impunity. Moreover, the pride and power of being associated with the Hoovers enabled and empowered its members and associates to commit criminal offenses that enriched the individuals and furthered the reputation and objectives of the Enterprise," the indictment read.
What they're saying: Acting United States Attorney Bill Essayli stated that federal law provides harsher sentences for sex trafficking than state law.
"There are no meaningful consequences for their conduct under state law, so the federal government... will step in to make sure these criminals face lengthy prison sentences," he said.
Homeland Security Investigations Los Angeles Special Agent in Charge Eddy Wang emphasized the agency's commitment to fighting human trafficking.
"No human should be for sale – not here in Los Angeles or anywhere in our society," Wang said.
Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell commented on the victims, saying they were "preyed upon by individuals who sought to profit from their pain."
He added that the LAPD is committed to working with federal partners to "dismantle these criminal networks, bring their perpetrators to justice, and ensure survivors receive the protection and support they deserve."
What's next: Law enforcement is still looking for one defendant, Bryan Isrel.

DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) -- ABC11 has learned new details about a shooting investigation that took the life of a North Carolina Central University (NCCU) student.
London Powers' friend Shiann Boyd told ABC11 that Powers was in the midst of moving out of an apartment that she shared with her ex-boyfriend Damien Tinsley when she was killed in a murder-suicide.
"She was just so happy to finally be moving out, getting her own place," Boyd said.
Boyd said she met London during her freshman year at Central.
"She was also saying, like, she would never deal with no man like that again. She said she knows the signs to look for, and she would just like, leave if a man ever came to her acting like that ever again," Boyd said.
However, before that could happen, Durham Police received a call from the Camden Pointe Apartments on Monday afternoon.
Boyd said Tinsley, who once played football at Saint Augustine's University, showed up unexpectedly.
There was a brief argument, then Boyd said Tinsley got physical with London. She said when London tried to call 911, things took a deadly turn.
"She says her address. She says he has a gun. And that's literally all she was able to say," said Boyd.
Boyd said Damien shot Powers before turning the gun and firing a shot toward her. She was not hit, but she said that is when Tinsley made eye contact with her before taking his own life.
"I'm on the phone with the police, I'm screaming. I'm like, somebody please help me," said Boyd.
Tinsley died at the scene, and Powers later died at the hospital.
"I just can't believe London's not here with me, and it's just crazy. I just really feel bad for her family because I just really feel bad for everybody," said Boyd.
Powers was a junior at NCCU, studying social work and preparing to intern at the Durham Center for Senior Life. She also worked at a local Walgreens.
Her death has shaken everyone.
"I feel shell-shocked. You know, it doesn't feel real," said De'Andre Gainer, a former coworker.
A balloon release will be held for Powers at the Walgreens on Holloway Street on Thursday, Aug. 14, at 7:30 p.m.

TAUNTON, Mass. — The boyfriend of a pregnant teen who was reported missing almost two weeks ago was arraigned Wednesday on a charge of murder and ordered held without bail, less than 24 hours after he allegedly confessed to the crime, leading to the discovery of human remains on his 25-acre plot of property in Rehoboth.
Gregory Groom, 22, appeared before a judge in Taunton District Court to answer to charges of murder, aggravated assault and battery on a pregnant person, domestic assault and battery, and intimidation of a witness for acts committed against 18-year-old Kylee Monteiro.
A plea of not guilty was entered on his behalf.
Groom was initially arrested on Tuesday on domestic violence charges in connection with an incident involving Monteiro on Aug. 6. The upgraded charge of murder came when remains consistent with those of Monteiro, who was 11 weeks pregnant, were later found at Groom’s home at 107 County Street.
In court on Wednesday, Assistant District Attorney Jason Mohan told the court that Groom contacted the Rehoboth Police Department on Aug. 8 to report that his girlfriend was missing.
“Mr. Groom reported that Ms. Monteiro was at his house, that she was looking for a place to stay, they got into an argument, that she ultimately left his residence walking down the driveway, and she hadn’t been seen or heard from since,” Mohan said. “Ms. Monteiro was known to be very active on social media, and he hadn’t heard from her, nor had her friends or family, in the following days.”
Through texts Monteiro sent to her sister, investigators later learned that Groom had allegedly physically harmed Monteiro during an altercation on Aug. 6.
“He threw me on the ground, he pulled my hair, and strangled me,” Monteiro said in the texts, according to Mohan. “My phone is at 4% and if I die, it was Greg.”
A subsequent search of Groom‘s property on Aug. 14, which included cadaver dogs, failed to yield anything of significance, but based on the failure of Monteiro to contact friends and family, police continued to pursue the investigation into her disappearance.
Mohan said that Groom reported to the Rehoboth police station on Tuesday for an interview, admitting that he had knocked Monteiro to the ground, causing her to hit her head. He also admitted to knocking Monteiro’s cellphone out of her hand when she attempted to call for help.
When investigators pressed Groom on the whereabouts of Monteiro, they told him that they would be searching his property with dogs, excavators, and members of the Massachusetts State Police Crime Lab. Then came an admission, according to Mohan.
“Mr. Groom then paused. He was given an opportunity to tell the police where Ms. Monteiro was located,” Mohan said. “Mr. Groom ultimately drew a rudimentary map, indicating he had gotten into an argument behind a shed on the property where he was known to stay, and where Ms. Monteiro stayed. During that altercation, Mr. Groom admitted that he stabbed Ms. Monteiro twice in the neck and once in the chest. That stab wound to the chest actually broke the blade of the knife off.”
Groom went on to confess to police that he then “spent several hours” digging a hole about 20 yards from the shed, where he disposed of Monteiro’s body and covered it with brush and dirt, according to Mohan.
“When the police ultimately called in medical examiners to uncover that hole, a body consistent with Kylee Monteiro was discovered about five feet underground,” Mohan said.
Monteiro was last seen alive on Thursday, August 7, according to family, friends, and law enforcement.
An autopsy will be performed on the body to confirm it is Monteiro’s.
Groom is due back in court for a probable cause hearing on Wednesday, Sept. 10.
An investigation into Monteiro’s death remains ongoing.

A developing homicide investigation is underway after a missing woman’s husband was seen on video dragging a large wrapped-up object away from their home just a day before the woman’s body was found dumped in a similar state.
On Aug. 12, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department responded to an apartment complex on the 500 block of Lancaster Boulevard in Lancaster to take a missing person report following the disappearance of 33-year-old Sheylla Cabrera.
But that investigation took a turn the following day after detectives viewed surveillance footage from a neighbor’s Ring camera that appeared to show Cabrera’s husband dragging a large item wrapped in some type of material away from their apartment.
After viewing the footage, detectives determined that the woman’s disappearance was suspicious and the LASD Homicide Bureau assumed the lead in the investigation.
Sheylla Cabrera’s husband, 36-year-old Jossimar Cabrera, was immediately identified as a person of interest in the investigation. The couple’s three children were also reported as missing, officials said.
Later that day, search and rescue teams from the Montrose Mountain Search and Rescue team reported finding a suspicious object in the Angeles National Forest that matched the material seen in the Ring camera video. Homicide detectives responded to that scene and confirmed that Sheylla Cabrera’s body was wrapped inside.
Investigators say Jossimar Cabrera is currently in Peru, and the Sheriff’s Department is currently working with local authorities to bring him back to California.
Video shared with KTLA Tuesday showed a man, believed to be Cabrera, being detained by authorities in Peru. The couple’s three children were also located safe in Peru, officials said.
But sources tell KTLA that Cabrera was released pending charges.
If Cabrera is indeed arrested and extradited back to the U.S., he is expected to be charged with murder in his wife’s death, officials said.
Sheylla Cabrera’s cause of death has yet to be released pending an evaluation by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The mother of a family who was found dead in their Madbury, New Hampshire, home is believed to have killed her husband and two of her children before turning the gun on herself, New Hampshire Attorney General John Formella said.
The family was found dead by state troopers in their Moharimet Drive home on Monday night.
Autopsies performed on the family found that Ryan Long, 48, his wife Emily Long, 34, and two of their children, son Parker, 8, and daughter Ryan, 6, all died from gunshot wounds.
Both Parker and Ryan died from a single gunshot wound to the head, Associate Chief Medical Examiner Abigail Alexander determined.
The father, Ryan Long, died from multiple gunshot wounds, and Emily died from a single gunshot wound to the head.
According to Formella, Emily took a handgun from the home and shot her husband and children during the early morning hours on Monday before she took her own life.
A third child, a toddler, was also found alive and unharmed in the house. Authorities said the toddler is now with the family.
Ryan Long worked as a school psychologist in the district's middle school. On Wednesday, the superintendent released a statement saying, in part: "As we prepare for the coming school year, our commitment remains to the well-being of our students, staff, and their families. Out of respect for everyone involved, we will not be making further comments."
The attorney general's office has advised that people should avoid assuming that the shootings were caused by a single reason or stressor.

USA: Minnesota Family Hired A Company That Will Help Sort And Donate The Items For You. Family Paid $1,570 To Pick Up Items Filling 20 Ft Moving Truck. Company Took Everything To The Dump.
I would not have trusted this company to donate anything with a name like, "College Hunks Hauling Junk". With JUNK being the emphasized word here. That's what they think of the gently used stuff you are giving them no matter what condition the items are in. I feel bad for the husband because he picked this place to trust with cherished items his wife had a hard time letting go. I can't believe this company charged this family $1,570 to take these donations. That right there is a red flag. Anyway, I hope the wife heals from this awful experience.
I just checked and saw that this company has really bad reviews. (emphasis mine)
WCCO - CBS Minnesota published August 18, 2025: Truckload of donations made by Minnesota family dumped. Imagine paying to donate a truckload of items, only to find out they were trashed. That's what happened to one local family. Investigative reporter Jennifer Mayerle shares what happened and what you can do following a pick-up.

Imagine paying to donate a truckload of items, only to find out they were trashed. One Minnesota family says that's exactly what happened to them.
For months, Matt and Mary Cullum say they carefully decided what to donate, from furniture to gently used baby clothes. The Cullums collected items, big and small, to donate over a year.
The Cullums felt strongly about making sure what they could no longer use went to another loving home.
"This stuff has been staying in our basement, cleaned and organized, for a while. And I know that getting rid of it was like saying goodbye to that chapter in our life. But what gave me peace is knowing that some other kid would get to enjoy it," Mary Cullum said.
The family had a long list that filled a 20-foot moving truck, including dressers, nightstands, end tables, an oak cabinet, a bed, and much more. Their collection of items to be donated also included toys, clothing, bikes and baby swings. They found a company that said they could do it all — sort and donate the items — and hired the Shoreview franchise of College Hunks Hauling Junk.
"If you look at their website that they pride themselves in repurposing, recycling or giving things a second life before they take anything to the dump," Mary Cullum said.
The Cullums paid $1,500 for the pick-up. About an hour and a half later, Mary Cullum started to regret donating some sentimental items. But by then, it was too late. She was told her donated items were "all gone," that it was all "at the dump." She said she raced there in hopes of salvaging something.
"It was just an overwhelming pile of stuff, of garbage. I was trying to look for like larger items, and everything had just been bulldozed," Mary Cullum said.
She took a video walking through the debris at the dump site, grabbing what she could save before she says it became too dangerous. And she watched the video of the donation being crushed.
"My 'mama heart' was breaking because I wanted to get back the things. And I was just so disappointed that they treated good things like garbage, things that could have made a difference for another family, and things that we cherish, and we had put together so carefully, and our donation was treated like trash," Mary Cullum said.
The Cullums salvaged a few items, then contacted the company. When the issue wasn't resolved, they turned to the Better Business Bureau. The company responded, saying they've done more training.
The Cullums contacted the Minnesota Attorney General's Office. When they still didn't get the response they were looking for, they contacted WCCO to get answers. College Hunks Shoreview owner Ryan Spille gave WCCO a tour of their office and clarified there are two parts to the business: moving and junk hauling. Donations fall under the latter.
"We do donation runs every week, week and a half," Spille said.
He says items are brought back to be sorted, and truck captains are incentivized to donate versus dump.
"Their commission percentage goes up or down depending on their, what we call, disposal percentage. Disposal percentages are how much it costs you to dispose, versus how much money you brought in, so they have a strong incentive to donate stuff, because that's free. That will bring their disposable percentage down," Spille said.
WCCO questioned how the Cullum family's big donation could have ended up in the trash.
"If our guys are, like, actually dumping stuff that's in good condition, I mean that, like, immediately horrifies me. I'm like, 'No, that can't happen.' And so we sit that captain down and say, 'Look, we have a responsibility to give those toys to donation,' or something like that," Spille said.
He says in this case, one of two things happened: the items weren't donatable or the captain made a mistake. Overall, the website says they donate or recycle 70%.
"What percentage of that is donatable? I don't actually know. But if I had to guess, I'd say it's probably like 15% to 20% of everything that we take in," Spille said.
The website touts partnerships with Goodwill and Habitat for Humanity ReStore. However, Goodwill told WCCO it "is not, and has never been, affiliated with College Hunks Hauling Junk." Habitat for Humanity ReStore told WCCO they also don't have a partnership.
Spille said, in addition to donations, they also allow employees to take what they need. That's not advertised.
The Cullums asked for a donation receipt. The family never got one.
"If that's the case, that's a problem," Spille said.
For the couple, the outrage from the owner is too late.
"I think I was in shock for a while. I know I cried a lot because that's the last place I wanted it. And I was upset because this is something I felt was taken from the community. You know, if we hadn't tried to track down that box, I could have lived blissfully unaware," Mary Cullum said.
College Hunks is a franchise. This report applies only to the actions of the Shoreview location.
The Attorney General's Office sent two letters to College Hunks Shoreview asking for a response. They've gone unanswered. WCCO discovered the letters went to the wrong address.
So what can you do in a similar situation? One thing is to ask the company to send pictures along with a list of what was accepted for donation. Also, follow up with the company to get the donation receipt for your taxes.

Woot Woot! This is one of my all time favorite movies! It was just the OOMPH that I needed to kick it into HIGH gear! This movie has very many spiritual principles that are key to our conscious elevation. It also portrays the ongoing battle between LIGHT and darkness! Know this, the dark forces will not win. The true LIGHT WILL PREVAIL I have posted the last 5 minutes of this movie! However, I highly recommend that you watch this movie from the beginning so that you better understand what led up to this moment. It still blows my mind when I watch it. Let this movie inspire you to do the following:
- You must Face your enemy.
- You must Face yourself.

The Woman And The Great Dragon aka Satan
Shepherds Chapel Bible Studies published Feb 25, 2014: Pastor Arnold Murray teaches the Book of Revelation Chapter 12 verse by verse.
Pastor Arnold Murray passed away February 12, 2014. I never met him in person. I wish I had. But I felt like I knew him because I watched him almost every day for many years. He's such a great teacher of the Word of God. I cried when I found out he passed away. He's a straight shooter. He doesn't mince words. But that's what I liked about him. (emphasis mine)

1 And a great sign [warning of an ominous and frightening future event] appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon beneath her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. 2 She was with child (the Messiah) and she cried out, being in labor and in pain to give birth.
3 Then another sign [of warning] was seen in heaven: behold, a great fiery red dragon (Satan) with seven heads and ten horns, and on his heads were seven royal crowns (diadems). 4 And his tail swept [across the sky] and dragged away a third of the stars of heaven and flung them to the earth. And the dragon stood in front of the woman who was about to give birth, so that when she gave birth he might devour her child.
5 And she gave birth to a Son, a male Child, who is destined to rule (shepherd) all the nations with a rod of iron; and her Child was caught up to God and to His throne. 6 Then the woman fled into the wilderness where she had a place prepared by God, so that she would be nourished there for a thousand two hundred and sixty days (forty-two months; three and one-half years).
7 And war broke out in heaven, Michael [the archangel] and his angels waging war with the dragon. The dragon and his angels fought, 8 but they were not strong enough and did not prevail, and there was no longer a place found for them in heaven. 9 And the great dragon was thrown down, the age-old serpent who is called the devil and Satan, he who continually deceives and seduces the entire inhabited world; he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. 10 Then I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying,
“Now the salvation, and the power, and the kingdom (dominion, reign) of our God, and the authority of His Christ have come; for the accuser of our [believing] brothers and sisters has been thrown down [at last], he who accuses them and keeps bringing charges [of sinful behavior] against them before our God day and night. 11 And they overcame and conquered him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, for they did not love their life and renounce their faith even when faced with death. 12 Therefore rejoice, O heavens and you who dwell in them [in the presence of God]. Woe to the earth and the sea, because the devil has come down to you in great wrath, knowing that he has only a short time [remaining]!”
13 And when the dragon saw that he was thrown down to the earth, he persecuted the woman who had given birth to the male Child. 14 But the two wings of the great eagle were given to the woman, so that she could fly into the wilderness to her place, where she was nourished for a time and times and half a time (three and one-half years), away from the presence of the serpent (Satan). 15 And the serpent hurled water like a river out of his mouth after the woman, so that he might cause her to be swept away with the flood. 16 But the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed up the river which the dragon had hurled out of his mouth. 17 So the dragon was enraged with the woman, and he went off to wage war on the rest of her children (seed), those who keep and obey the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus [holding firmly to it and bearing witness to Him].

12:1-6 The church, under the emblem of a woman, the mother of believers, was seen by the apostle in vision, in heaven. She was clothed with the sun, justified, sanctified, and shining by union with Christ, the Sun of Righteousness. The moon was under her feet; she was superior to the reflected and feebler light of the revelation made by Moses. Having on her head a crown of twelve stars; the doctrine of the gospel, preached by the twelve apostles, is a crown of glory to all true believers. As in pain to bring forth a holy family; desirous that the conviction of sinners might end in their conversion. A dragon is a known emblem of Satan, and his chief agents, or those who govern for him on earth, at that time the pagan empire of Rome, the city built upon seven hills. As having ten horns, divided into ten kingdoms. Having seven crowns, representing seven forms of government. As drawing with his tail a third part of the stars in heaven, and casting them down to the earth; persecuting and seducing the ministers and teachers. As watchful to crush the Christian religion; but in spite of the opposition of enemies, the church brought forth a manly issue of true and faithful professors, in whom Christ was truly formed anew; even the mystery of Christ, that Son of God who should rule the nations, and in whose right his members partake the same glory. This blessed offspring was protected of God.
Rev 1-6 Here we see that early prophecy eminently fulfilled in which God said he would put enmity between the seed of the woman and the seed of the serpent, Gen. 3:15. You will observe,
I. The attempts of Satan and his agents to prevent the increase of the church, by devouring her offspring as soon as it was born; of this we have a very lively description in the most proper images.
1. We see how the church is represented in this vision.
(1.) As a woman, the weaker part of the world, but the spouse of Christ, and the mother of the saints.
(2.) As clothed with the sun, the imputed righteousness of the Lord Jesus Christ. Having put on Christ, who is the Sun of righteousness, she, by her relation to Christ, is invested with honourable rights and privileges, and shines in his rays.
(3.) As having the moon under her feet (that is, the world); she stands upon it, but lives above it; her heart and hope are not set upon sublunary things, but on the things that are in heaven, where her head is.
(4.) As having on her head a crown of twelve stars, that is, the doctrine of the gospel preached by the twelve apostles, which is a crown of glory to all true believers.
(5.) As in travail, crying out, and pained to be delivered. She was pregnant, and now in pain to bring forth a holy progeny to Christ, desirous that what was begun in the conviction of sinners might end in their conversion, that when the children were brought to the birth there might be strength to bring forth, and that she might see of the travail of her soul.

12:7-11 The attempts of the dragon proved unsuccessful against the church, and fatal to his own interests. The seat of this war was in heaven; in the church of Christ, the kingdom of heaven on earth. The parties were Christ, the great Angel of the covenant, and his faithful followers; and Satan and his instruments. The strength of the church is in having the Lord Jesus for the Captain of their salvation. Pagan idolatry, which was the worship of devils, was cast out of the empire by the spreading of Christianity. The salvation and strength of the church, are only to be ascribed to the King and Head of the church. The conquered enemy hates the presence of God, yet he is willing to appear there, to accuse the people of God. Let us take heed that we give him no cause to accuse us; and that, when we have sinned, we go before the Lord, condemn ourselves, and commit our cause to Christ as our Advocate. The servants of God overcame Satan by the blood of the Lamb, as the cause. By the word of their testimony: the powerful preaching of the gospel is mighty, through God, to pull down strong holds. By their courage and patience in sufferings: they loved not their lives so well but they could lay them down in Christ's cause. These were the warriors and the weapons by which Christianity overthrew the power of pagan idolatry; and if Christians had continued to fight with these weapons, and such as these, their victories would have been more numerous and glorious, and the effects more lasting. The redeemed overcame by a simple reliance on the blood of Christ, as the only ground of their hopes. In this we must be like them. We must not blend any thing else with this.
Here observe,
(1.) How the conqueror is adored: Now have come salvation, strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ. Now God has shown himself to be a mighty God; now Christ has shown himself to be a strong and mighty Saviour; his own arm has brought salvation, and now his kingdom will be greatly enlarged and established. The salvation and strength of the church are all to be ascribed to the king and head of the church.

(2.) How the conquered enemy is described.
[1.] 👉By his malice; he was the accuser of the brethren, and accused them before their God night and day; he appeared before God as an adversary to the church, continually bringing in indictments and accusations against them, whether true or false; thus he accused Job, and thus he accused Joshua the high priest, Zec. 3:1. Though he hates the presence of God, yet he is willing to appear there to accuse the people of God. Let us therefore take heed that we give him no cause of accusation against us; and that, when we have sinned, we presently go in before the Lord, and accuse and condemn ourselves, and commit our cause to Christ as our Advocate.
[2.] By his disappointment and defeat: he and all his accusations are cast out, the indictments quashed, and the accuser turned out of the court with just indignation.
(3.) How the victory was gained. The servants of God overcame Satan,
[1.] 👉By the blood of the Lamb, as the meritorious cause. Christ by dying destroyed him that hath the power of death, that is, the devil.
[2.] By the word of their testimony, as the great instrument of war, the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God,-by a resolute powerful preaching of the everlasting gospel, which is mighty, through God, to pull down strongholds,-and by their courage and patience in sufferings; they loved not their lives unto the death, when the love of life stood in competition with their loyalty to Christ; they loved not their lives so well but they could give them up to death, could lay them down in Christ's cause; their love to their own lives was overcome by stronger affections of another nature; and this their courage and zeal helped to confound their enemies, to convince many of the spectators, to confirm the souls of the faithful, and so contributed greatly to this victory.

12:12-17 The church and all her friends might well be called to praise God for deliverance from pagan persecution, though other troubles awaited her. The wilderness is a desolate place, and full of serpents and scorpions, uncomfortable and destitute of provisions; yet a place of safety, as well as where one might be alone. But being thus retired could not protect the woman. The flood of water is explained by many to mean the invasions of barbarians, by which the western empire was overwhelmed; for the heathen encouraged their attacks, in the hope of destroying Christianity. But ungodly men, for their worldly interests, protected the church amidst these tumults, and the overthrow of the empire did not help the cause of idolatry. Or, this may be meant of a flood of error, by which the church of God was in danger of being overwhelmed and carried away. The devil, defeated in his designs upon the church, turns his rage against persons and places. Being faithful to God and Christ, in doctrine, worship, and practice, exposes to the rage of Satan; and will do so till the last enemy shall be destroyed.

Here begins the second and final great division of Revelation. "In it we traverse the same ground once more." Beginning with the Incarnation, we have the efforts of Satan to destroy Christ while he is on earth, and failing in this, to destroy the church, and failing in this, to wage war against the saints. The outline of the chapter is:
- The drama of the woman and the dragon (Revelation 12:1-6).
- A retrospective parenthesis to explain Satan's hatred of the woman and her seed (Revelation 12:7-9).
- A heavenly proleptic doxology, but also including retrospective mention of past events (Revelation 12:10-12).
- The war against the church by Satan (Revelation 12:13-17).

Jesus Prays to Be Glorified
1 After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed:
“Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. 2 For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him. 3 Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. 4 I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do. 5 And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.
Jesus Prays for His Disciples
6 “I have revealed you to those whom you gave me out of the world. They were yours; you gave them to me and they have obeyed your word. 7 Now they know that everything you have given me comes from you. 8 For I gave them the words you gave me and they accepted them. They knew with certainty that I came from you, and they believed that you sent me. 9 I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours. 10 All I have is yours, and all you have is mine. And glory has come to me through them. 11 I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one as we are one. 12 While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by that name you gave me. None has been lost except the one doomed to destruction so that Scripture would be fulfilled.
13 “I am coming to you now, but I say these things while I am still in the world, so that they may have the full measure of my joy within them. 14 I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world. 15 My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. 17 Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. 18 As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world. 19 For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified.
Jesus Prays for All Believers
20 “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, 21 that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one— 23 I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.
24 “Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world.
25 “Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me. 26 I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them.”

Commentary on John 17:1-5
Our Lord prayed as a man, and as the Mediator of his people; yet he spoke with majesty and authority, as one with and equal to the Father. Eternal life could not be given to believers, unless Christ, their Surety, both glorified the Father, and was glorified of him. This is the sinner's way to eternal life, and when this knowledge shall be made perfect, holiness and happiness will be fully enjoyed. The holiness and happiness of the redeemed, are especially that glory of Christ, and of his Father, which was the joy set before him, for which he endured the cross and despised the shame; this glory was the end of the sorrow of his soul, and in obtaining it he was fully satisfied. Thus we are taught that our glorifying God is needed as an evidence of our interest in Christ, through whom eternal life is God's free gift.
Commentary on John 17:6-10.
Christ prays for those that are his. Thou gavest them me, as sheep to the shepherd, to be kept; as a patient to the physician, to be cured; as children to a tutor, to be taught: thus he will deliver up his charge. It is a great satisfaction to us, in our reliance upon Christ, that he, all he is and has, and all he said and did, all he is doing and will do, are of God. Christ offered this prayer for his people alone as believers; not for the world at large. Yet no one who desires to come to the Father, and is conscious that he is unworthy to come in his own name, need be discouraged by the Saviour's declaration, for he is both able and willing to save to the uttermost, all that come unto God by him. Earnest convictions and desires, are hopeful tokens of a work already wrought in a man; they begin to evidence that he has been chosen unto salvation, through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth. They are thine; wilt thou not provide for thine own? Wilt thou not secure them? Observe the foundation on which this plea is grounded, All mine are thine, and thine are mine. This speaks the Father and Son to be one. All mine are thine. The Son owns none for his, that are not devoted to the service of the Father.
Commentary on John 17:11-16
Christ does not pray that they might be rich and great in the world, but that they might be kept from sin, strengthened for their duty, and brought safe to heaven. The prosperity of the soul is the best prosperity. He pleaded with his holy Father, that he would keep them by his power and for his glory, that they might be united in affection and labours, even according to the union of the Father and the Son. He did not pray that his disciples should be removed out of the world, that they might escape the rage of men, for they had a great work to do for the glory of God, and the benefit of mankind. But he prayed that the Father would keep them from the evil, from being corrupted by the world, the remains of sin in their hearts, and from the power and craft of Satan. So that they might pass through the world as through an enemy's country, as he had done. They are not left here to pursue the same objects as the men around them, but to glorify God, and to serve their generation. The Spirit of God in true Christians is opposed to the spirit of the world.
Commentary on John 17:17-19
Christ next prayed for the disciples, that they might not only be kept from evil, but made good. It is the prayer of Jesus for all that are his, that they may be made holy. Even disciples must pray for sanctifying grace. The means of giving this grace is, "through thy truth, thy word is truth." Sanctify them, set them apart for thyself and thy service. Own them in the office; let thy hand go with them. Jesus entirely devoted himself to his undertaking, and all the parts of it, especially the offering up himself without spot unto God, by the eternal Spirit. The real holiness of all true Christians is the fruit of Christ's death, by which the gift of the Holy Ghost was purchased; he gave himself for his church, to sanctify it. If our views have not this effect on us, they are not Divine truth, or we do not receive them by a living and a working faith, but as mere notions.
Commentary on John 17:20-23
Our Lord especially prayed, that all believers might be as one body under one head, animated by one soul, by their union with Christ and the Father in him, through the Holy Spirit dwelling in them. The more they dispute about lesser things, the more they throw doubts upon Christianity. Let us endeavour to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace, praying that all believers may be more and more united in one mind and one judgment. Thus shall we convince the world of the truth and excellence of our religion, and find more sweet communion with God and his saints.
Commentary on John 17:24-26
Christ, as one with the Father, claimed on behalf of all that had been given to him, and should in due time believe on him, that they should be brought to heaven; and that there the whole company of the redeemed might behold his glory as their beloved Friend and Brother, and therein find happiness. He had declared and would further declare the name or character of God, by his doctrine and his Spirit, that, being one with him, the love of the Father to him might abide with them also. Thus, being joined to Him by one Spirit, they might be filled with all the fulness of God, and enjoy a blessedness of which we can form no right idea in our present state.

1 Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You,
Jesus and the apostles had by this time probably left the upper room and begun traveling to the Mount of Olives. Having finished the discourse, Jesus now offered a prayer of intercession:
He prayed for Himself (17:1-5)
He prayed for the apostles (17:6-19)
He prayed for all future believers (17:20-26)
This is the longest prayer by Jesus in the Bible. He prayed two things for Himself:
(1) that the Father would glorify His mission on earth (17:1-3), and
(2) that Jesus would return to His eternal glory after His mission (17:4-5).
Jesus spoke these words,
“These words” refers to John 16:33, where Jesus finished His discourse in the upper room with an affirmation of victory—which was a declaration of success for paying for sins by His death on the cross.
The gospel of John does not include the pericope of His prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane (Mt 26:36-46).
lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said:
Jesus directed His prayer to where the Father was located. His gesture in prayer was to look to the sky to pray.
“Father,
Jesus addressed the “Father” three times in this prayer (Jn 17:5, 21, 24). He also used the terms “Holy Father” (v. 11) and “righteous Father” (v. 25). Jesus spoke as a Son to the Father.
the hour has come.
Previously Jesus had said several times that His hour had not come (Jn 2:4; 7:6, 8, 30; 8:20). Now the time had arrived for Jesus to die on the cross to execute the plan of salvation. This was the “hour” that the Father planned from eternity, the time for Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of the world. There was an air of finality here. The entire ministry of Christ was to climax at the cross. This was the appointed hour of dramatic change that introduced a new dispensation and ushered out the old.
Glorify Your Son,
Jesus’ request to “glorify” the Son was to manifest to the world His work on the cross, the resurrection, and the restoring of His coronation to eternal glory.
that [purpose]
The word “that” shows the purpose of Jesus asking the Father to glorify Him—His glorification was not an end in itself; it was for the glorification of the Father.
Your Son also may glorify You,
The Son would glorify the Father by His work on earth. God’s glorious attributes were brought to focus at the cross, the resurrection, and the coronation of the Son in heaven. The ultimate end of the Son’s glorification is the glorification of the Father. The Son would glorify the Father by means of the cross.
PRINCIPLE:
There is a divine timetable for each believer.
APPLICATION:
Jesus lived on a divine timetable while on earth. The hour of His death was set in eternity past. He was the Lamb slain, arranged from the foundation of the world (Ga 4:4). Our times are also in God’s hands (Ps 31:15).
The mission of the Son equates with the overall purpose of God—that is, the glorification of God primarily and the salvation of man secondarily. We see the glory of Christ in both the cross and the crown. The world views the cross as something of shame, but Jesus deemed it as glory.
Jesus did not pray for Himself in a selfish way. He prayed that the will of the Father be done. He did not ask the Father to save Him from the cross but to glorify both the Father and Himself through it. The glory of the Son was also the glory of the Father. It was a prayer of sustaining grace.
