Believe in Yourself... ♥

While visiting Solvang, California in the early 1990's, I purchased a little porcelain plaque that was artistically designed with these words of encouragement on it. I was in my early 20's at the time, it helped me get through a lot of growing pains/changes back then. I read it every morning until I had it memorized. I've had this plaque with magnet attached to back on my refrigerator ever since. I'd like to share this beautiful poem with you.

Believe in Yourself
~ Author unknown

Believe in yourself
in the power you have to
control your own life
day by day.

Believe in the
strength that you have
deep inside, and your
faith will help
show you the way.

Believe in tomorrow
and what it will bring.
Let a hopeful heart
carry you through.

For things will work out
if you trust and believe
there's no limit
to what you can do.

As an aside, I love visiting Solvang, CA. It is one of my favorite destinations to take a quick day or weekend jaunt. It's just a two and half hour drive from Los Angeles, CA. I have often spontaneously called up a friend or my mom and asked, "Would you like to have brunch at Paula's Pancake House in Solvang today?" They make the BEST Egg's Benedict. :) Afterwards, we spend the rest of the day walking off our breakfast and visiting all of the wonderful gift shops they have there. Sometimes we'd stay the night if we decide to have a hearty steak dinner and drinks at the Viking Garden Restaurant. But it's usually just a day trip. By the way, this town is known for windmills, jelly beans and Viking/Nordic influence. I highly recommend visiting if you've never been. It is such a quaint little town.

Oh and I forgot to mention, the Chumash Indian reservation is only 15 minutes out of town and they have built a humongous casino if that's your cup of tea. But just so you know in advance, they do not serve alcohol in the casino because of the windy roads going through the Santa Ynez valley. I just now double checked my info in case this changed since my last visit and found out that a 3-day public hearing has been set for May 22, 2012 at Solvang City Hall for the Chumash tribe's liquor license request. So there is a possibility this may change mid-year. We'll see. Please click HERE to read more about Chumash liquor license hearing from the Lompoc Record.

UPDATE 11/02/2014: Indianz.com [2/6/2013] The Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians must comply with 18 conditions for its casino liquor license.

The license allows the tribe to to sell liquor in more areas at the Chumash Casino Hotel and Resort except on the gaming floor, in the cafe and during certain events in the showroom. The California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control also barred happy hours, imposed time restraints and required appropriate training for staff that handle liquor sales. Opponents are expected to file appeals.
