A woman who had gone to find out the reason of her husband’s arrest was allegedly gang-raped by three policemen, including a sub inspector and two constables, inside a police station in this district of Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday.

The case surfaced when the victim appeared before the SP Hamirpur and narrated the ordeal late on Wednesday evening.

Police arrested sub-inspector Rahul Pandey and raids were being conducted for the two constables on the run.

“A case for rape is being registered against the policemen at the Sumerpur police station,” said VK Shekhar, SP Hamirpur. “The victim has been given security and best efforts are being put to track the remaining two.”

The victim’s husband was arrested on June 9 for possessing illegal gun. His wife tried to get in touch with her husband and seek out the reason of his arrest. She last went to the police station around 1 am on Tuesday in last ditch attempt to secure his release.

She told the senior police officers that she met sub inspector Rahul Pandey who had arrested her husband. She was made to sit inside the police station building for about 20 minutes. And suddenly two constables forcibly dragged her to a remote corner where she was allegedly raped for two hours.

The victim was allowed to leave the premises around 3 am and her husband was released three hours later without being challaned. She accused the policemen of threatening her not to speak about the rape or else her husband will be arrested again.

But the victim met SP Hamirpur at his office around 9 pm on Wednesday. Pandey was picked up from his official quarter while two policemen who were off duty had run away by then.
