The Total eclipse of the Moon will be visible in North and Central America. The Moon enters Earth’s shadow at 1.33am EST. Totality is from 2.41am to 3.52am EST, with the Moon being in her deepest shadow at 3.17am EST. If skies are clear I urge those of you who are honoured to visually see this eclipse to do so. I witnessed a Total Lunar Eclipse in January 2000 and it was one of the most mystical experiences to watch the Moon turn from silver to crimson orange back to silver again. It is rare to have a Total Lunar eclipse on Winter Solstice. NASA.com tells us the last time this occurred was Dec 21, 1638. The Canadian Weather Network says it was 1554. However you look at it the last occurrence was in other lifetimes. The next one will be Dec 21, 2094. For most of us that too will be another lifetime.
This is the third Full Moon in a series of five at the 29th degree of the sign it is in. This degree is seen as a message of completion. We started in Oct with the Full Moon at 29 Aries, releasing rejection, abandonment and betrayal wounds to step onto your true path. Then in Nov the Full Moon was 29 Taurus, releasing issues of self esteem that keep you disempowered. Now the Gemini Full Moon, releasing thoughts and beliefs that limit you from manifesting your true path. This Lunation is harmoniously aligned with the Royal Star Regulus in the Constellation of Leo. Success is assured but you must step out of ego and into the compassionate heart.
This Total Lunar eclipse occurs on one of the most sacred days of the year in the northern hemisphere. Approximately 15 hours after Sister Moon turns crimson orange the Sun enters Capricorn at 6.38pm EST and marks the Winter Solstice. From Dec 20 to 23 the Sun is “standing still” at the Tropic of Capricorn preparing to make the journey northward to bring warmth and light back to the frozen north. And this year the northern hemisphere is frozen almost everywhere with an overabundance of snow and ice. Winter Solstice is the doorway into the North Direction of The Medicine Wheel. Its power is silence, knowledge, wisdom and patience. Certainly this is something all humans travelling at this busy holiday time are being given the opportunity to practice. Winter Solstice activates the Earth Renewal time. Our Spirit Walker is Snow Goose. She teaches us to awaken our spirits and follow our dreams.
The Animal Totem for the Moon in Gemini is Deer, gentleness, sensitivity, and unconditional love. For the Sun in Sagittarius Elk, the support of community, and Owl, truth and wisdom, guide us. The Clan Mother for the Moon is Storyteller. She is the guardian of the magical child and speaking your truth from a sacred point of view. She also teaches how to listen to what others are really saying. She teaches you how to know your true story and live it. For the Sun in Sagittarius it is Gives Praise who guides you. She is the guardian of gratitude and giving thanks for the truth. She teaches you how to give and receive so you are in the flow of abundance. She teaches you to see life as a joyful celebration. Gemini is active on the Tarot Constellation of The Lovers, the Principle of Relationship and Choice. This includes connections with siblings, relatives, and neighbours. Is it not interesting that this is the holiday time? For some of you this will be an opportunity to take your boat out of someone else’s river and launch it in your own. Your biological family is not necessarily your spiritual family. If you find yourself needing to release people call on Deer Medicine, unconditional love. Sagittarius is active on the Tarot Constellation of the Hierophant, the principle of learning to become the Wise Teacher.
The Moon in Gemini is expressing the 2nd Ray of Divine Love and Wisdom. It is the only Ray Gemini is active on. The Archangels guiding us are Jophiel, creative power and vision, and Constance Christine, inner perception and illumination. Ultimately Gemini is seeking its Divine Self and that is what this Mystical Moon is offering all of us. Connection to the Source of All That Is, The Great Mystery.
Here is what we wrote for the Sun at the Sagittarius New Moon of Dec 05 “In terms of the Ray energies Sagittarius is complicated. It begins on 4th Ray of Harmony Through Conflict with Archangels Gabriel, transformation and resurrection, and Hope, faith and trust as our guides. When that Ray is mastered the next is 5th Ray, Concrete Knowledge and Healing, with Raphael, the shinning one who heals, and Mary, Divine Unconditional Love, guiding us. The final Ray Sagittarius expresses is perhaps the most difficult. It is the 6th of Idealism and Devotion. We can all see how that is being expressed in the world right now. Even the Rays have a shadow side. The Archangels of 6th Ray are Uriel, peace and love, and Aurora Grace, gratitude and balance. You decide which Ray you want to embody for this Moon cycle.” This Gemini Moon and Sagittarius Sun opposition continue this theme but now we have access to Divine Love and Wisdom.
The ruler of the Moon in Gemini is Mercury, retrograde in Sagittarius. He has just crossed The Galactic Center of the Milky Way adding to and emphasizing the sacredness of this Mystical Moon. He is travelling with the Sun and opposing the Moon. This sets up a tug of war between the mind and emotions. But Mercury and the Full Moon activate a Mutable Grand Cross a ‘let go and let God’ configuration. Remember that when you find yourself being pulled in different directions. Just let go. Mercury (our thoughts, perspectives, and the way we communicate) along with the Sun (our identity and ego) in Sagittarius (our beliefs about the truth) are Square (finding new ways of doing things) Jupiter (expansion and growth) and Uranus (breakthrough) in Pisces (enlightenment) and Juno/Hera (partnership) in Virgo (healing). The Moon (Soul) in Gemini (search for the Divine Self) is the path to breakthrough.

All of the Spirit Walker guides have left the Star Temple leaving you to contemplate the message from Sister Moon. Even Snowy Owl and Shooting Star have gone. As you turn to leave there standing in front of you is White Buffalo. You watch as this Spirit Guide for the North Direction of The Medicine Wheel transforms into a Medicine Woman. “I am White Buffalo Calf Woman” she says in a gentle but firm voice. She hands you a bundle wrapped in sacred cloth. “This is for the next part of your journey if you have the courage and strength to carry it.” You unwrap the cloth and reveal a Peace Pipe carved with your Power Animal Totem. “Only accept this gift if you promise to do no harm but only heal” she says “in accepting you will step onto the path of the Peaceful Warrior.” As you think about whether you are ready for this sacred responsibility you look carefully at the Peace Pipe and it calls your name. You turn to give your answer to White Buffalo Calf Woman but she has disappeared.
